  1. Park is the best fielding first baseman this team has in any level in the organization from A up (pretty sad situation, but it is what it is.) He should be starting there. The guy who should change position (LF is screaming) is Mauer. Trade Plouffe allowing Sano to play where he belongs, slot Vargas to DH and you are set. However, we all know that the people who are ru(i)nning the Twins, will not do it.
  2. Why not? Walker is a DH. Arcia and even Sano are better outfielders than he is; Sano, Park (and Vargas, check what he is doing compared to Walker lately) are better DHs than he is at this point. Great trade bait. Milone is Milone. Been there, done that. And Milone is part of the problem. Better get someone to start with might be part of the future (Like Andrew Albers)
  3. a. "Monster Year" or "Cy Young Year" does not equate with 7th in the Cy Young award vote with 6 points when the winner got 178 and the second 167. One of those 2 is a fact. And, since it was an aberration, like the Suzuki & Dozier "monster years" (read: slightly above league average) that led to extensions, regression was not only written on the wall, was about chiseled on marble. b. Are you defending Pelfrey's extension? c. Indeed. Smith brought Capps to the Twins (and made the post-season because of the move in 2010). Ryan was the one who extended him on the December of 2011 (winter meetings) after Smith was "downsized"
  4. Hate to say it, but I don't think that TR can grasp that concept
  5. Who? Phil Hughes at his career season finished 7th in the Cy Young vote with 6 points. First place had 169 and second 157. For perspective. Not.Even.Close Unless you are talking about the Perkins, Pelfrey, and/or Capps extensions...
  6. He does not and that was my point. The Twins need someone above both St. Peter and the GM who actually is a baseball person and cares more about baseball than turning the OF into a cowfield after concerts or unrelated to baseball activities at Target Field or to care more about the product on the field vs the food in the ballpark. St. Peter is fine for what he is. He is just not enough. Plus he opens he mouth on occasion and pretends to talk baseball
  7. I want the Twins to hire a president of baseball operations who is a proven winner in the baseball universe to run the show and want him to hire a younger analytics-oriented GM with passion for winning. Everything else will fall in place. It might require a different owner too.
  8. Deterioration? What deterioration. You can talk about Perkins' deterioration, but this is what Kevin Jepsen has been. 2015 .242 BABIP, 81.9 % LOB, 7.4 HR/FB & 3.85 SIERA, 4.04 xFIP 2016 .328 BABIP, 68.4 % LOB, 14.7 HR/FB & 4.34 SIERA, 4.86 xFIP Velocity of FB, SL, and CH are the same. Had they dropped to Perkins' levels then we can talk about deterioration. 2016 is a just below average season for Jepsen. He is almost 32 and declining, but not deteriorating (like the Twins' proven closer) by any means... Jepsen is a decent middle reliever who pitched way over his head last season and has fallen to the ground. Hard. Lucky that Ryan did not extend him too. He is what he is. Unfortunately too many people did not look at his peripherals in 2015 and thought that he would be more. Simple. The only thing that deteriorated was (some) people's dreams about who Jepsen was.
  9. Nope. It will be like game never happened if it is cancelled. Only time they pick up where they left is on an official game that was tied and rained out.
  10. Looks like they will call the game. Pretty nasty system coming. At least one less L, yet.
  11. http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/47/f8/08/47f80812067f46de4fcfd4e26ece9278.jpg
  12. That Grossman play at the LF was pretty Delmonic.
  13. Unfortunately, there are only singular choices. Need an "all of the above" (as in Total System Failure...)
  14. a. Dozier and Plouffe do not deserve to be in the same sentence as Mauer. Mauer was an MVP, perennial All Star hitter, someone with a job in every team. The other two are middle of the road players, who happened to be better that the rest in the Twins' dark season, and ill-advised the Twins' brass instead of trading them and replacing them with Sano and Polanco (who are the future) decided to keep them and build "around them." Guess what? They are parts of the problem b. Brunansky's got to go. Period.
  15. Might as well make the Twins the Saint's development team...
  16. It is not Hunter. It is the attitude that Hunter brought to this team. It was obvious that this was why the Twins signed him last season and he actually did solve one of their biggest problems in 2014 (and before.) This team needs a winning attitude. Need someone(s) who hate loosing. Hated to see Mauer smile and chitchat with Lions yesterday at first base when the score was 0-7. Wish there was someone to say to Mauer to look at the score and pretend you care for once. (And I am using Mauer as an example.) That's where the Twins' "leaders", including their manager, GM, president, and owner fail. Some don't care about losing (Mauer, Dozier,) some are trying to find excuses about losing (Perkins.) Nobody appears willing to address the problem. It is not Hunter, per se. This is an attitude. And it comes from up high. Pohlad and St Peter never look as mad as the average Twins' fans for this debacle. And in my book, they should be madder. But they don't care. About time that Pohlad sells to someone who cares.
  17. Looks the same bug that bit Buxton bit Berrios, but I just hope that when they send him down either Meyer or Gibson returns. Hope no Milone or God forbid Albers, but you never know. The kid needs to go down though big time.
  18. TR's latest dumpster dive find from the Independent Leagues: 28 year old soft tossing lefty, cup of coffee mopping up for St. Louis a couple seasons ago. Popped in New Britain to block the Fort Myers' phenoms from promotion.
  19. .318/.458/.500 Vargas' slash line in May 2.70 ERA, 0.750 WHIP, 9.5 K/9 Wimmers in May Hard to make conclusions about players with a colder than usual April Flankly, there are better people to move off the 40-man roster and most of them are in the Twins' pen. I'd move Walker off (by trade) before Vargas.
  20. When/if the Twins trade Dozier and Plouffe, the right move might be to get Beresford up. That should clear a lot of the Twins' problems right now.
  21. I agree with most of those moves, but they are hardly a "fix". The Twins are not 5 players away from getting "fixed". They need some drastic moves, like: a. Hiring someone from the outside above Ryan to assess the situation in the Front Office and Management b. Fire Brunansky right away. The K% before and after and for 3+ seasons is enough data. Bring up Jake Mauer as the hitting coach (he knew as a player how to take a few walks.) c. Fire Vavra right away and replace him with Mientkiewicz. Not only getting rid of the loser Karma from the Gardy years taint, you get Molitor's potential successor up there to light bit of a fire under him. I am all for bringing up young players, but you got to start them in the right positions. To do that, you need to trade both Dozier and Plouffe and get Sano and Polanco in their spots (with Polanco sliding at SS and Escobar/Nunez playing at 2B) This will get an OF of Kepler, Buxton, Arcia. Not bad. Got to get rid of some pitchers and fix the pen. That pen is hideous. Hughes in the pen will be an improvement. Hopefully Dozier and Plouffe will bring someone(s) serviceable there. Trading Arcia, the single MLB-ready serious power thread from the left side in the organization, before replacing him internally (Palka) or externally is inane.
