  1. This is good stuff. Very impressing command on the FB and very effortless 97-98. There is probably more gas there potentially. It is low in the zone partially because his arm angle is low. Almost sidearm, below 3/4s. His change is his most improved pitch it looks. Really did not add up to much last season and now it is a very workable pitch. One thing about Meyer that this video does not show (because the time between pitches was shortened.) He takes his sweet time between pitches. I hope that has changed and he started to work in a faster pace. This video from 2012 shows how much time he takes between pitches (and how much rawer his change was)... I hope he makes the Twins' rotation sooner than later, because the likes of Correia/Diamond/Deduno should not be blocking him...
  2. Still. I think that it has to do with performance of the club and names in general, and not necessary where someone was born. For example, the single game record attendance in the Dome was broken in '87 in Steve Carlton's first start. Despite being older than dirt and ineffective, Carlton and the Twins were packing rear ends in the dome on his every start after that, compared to games started by the like of Les Straker. Of course we all know what happened in '87 (and in '91.) I am convinced that the 90 to 91 season attendance jump has more to do with the team's last to first performance than the signing of Jack Morris
  3. Great job Parker. And thus lies the biggest issue with these Minnesota Twins: This team probably needs a new owner who cares whether the team wins and is willing to hold people accountable if it does not, because this front office doesn't...
  4. Replace "cocaine" with "cream and clear" and "Molly" with "Bonds" and let me know how you feel. Same story. Different drugs.
  5. Bobby Cuellar is sitting in the bullpen during the games, so the only effect he can have is during practices, during ST and for the bullpen...
  6. HOF player with a rival team and a PED user. (yes, cocaine is a PED.) And a guy who magically became fit to be in the coaching staff this season while he was not (according to Ryan) last season.
  7. Bet that's all they needed to get to a semi-respectable record /sarcasm
  8. And the season before last: Capps And the season before that: Pavano And the season before that: Blackburn
  9. Add the fact that Ryan lost 2 sup round picks for re-signing Capps and...
  10. I think that Morneau should be lucky if he has to chose where he goes (i.e. if more than one team give him more than MiLB contract offers) based on his performance...
  11. a. 95 mph FB b. the earliest comeback ever from TJ c. he is younger than both.
  12. I like Pelfrey (and his potential) probably more than any starting pitcher the Twins trotted out there last season whose last name is not Gibson. That said, he is at best a number 3 at average a number 4. I will be ok with him re-signing with the Twins if the Twins somehow got rid of Correia and Diamond and those 2 are not in the rotation as well. Pelfrey as a number 4 sounds good to me. Nothing more than that.
  13. I think that the Twins' philosophy stayed the same: Pound the strike zone and get strike one and strike 2 (hopefully looking) and then try to get them to hit it softly. The problem has been with the personnel: Those numbers in the early mid 00s were driven by Santana in the rotation and by pitchers like Nathan, Rincon, Neshek and Crain in the pen (check K/9s in those teams). The rest of the Twins (Radke being the poster boy) have been pitching the Twins' way... Lately, the staff has been throwing very hittable strike ones and that has been part of the Twins' issues. Interesting to see how many hits the Twins' teams have been giving on the first pitch of a PA vs the league...
  14. I thought that the Twins could do better with 3/$20M as a starting place, but then I realize that this is Blackburn/Correia type money... Sad.
  15. I'd rather see the Twins sing him instead of the usual 30-some suspects they use to fill the Rochester rotation. His first name is pronounced "Sook", btw
  16. Unless Thielbar and Hernandez (and Diamond ) develop 93-95 mph fastballs, they cannot replace Duensing. Would Butera count for #2? I just cannot see Ryan spending any money. We shall see...
  17. Add: Jeff Manship 11 games (4 starts) for Colorado 0-5, 7.04 ERA Sean Henn, cup of coffee with the Mets
  18. In the minors. And his biggest transactions in the majors as far as pitching goes was to re-sign Capps (and lose a couple draft picks) and sign Correia and Pelfrey. Nice
  19. If he is talking wRC+ and FSL, then Sano should be ranked higher than Buxton. Period.
  20. I'd have a hard time looking at any La Russa managed team and think that the players are clean. Sorry.
  21. I suggest we dig up the following: Baxendale, 22, career 7.6 K/9 Duffey, 22, career 7.6 K/9 z. Jones, 22, career 12.6 K/9
  22. That would not bring much And I have no idea why the Reds would want prospects. Last time I checked, the Reds were a contending team that just fired their manager for not making it to the post-season. The Twins do not have much spare MLB level talent. Will they be willing to trade Perkins (maybe even straight up?) Will something like Dozier, Fien and/or Burton interest the Reds? Or maybe Willingham and/or Doumit in the trade? I just do not see a match here...
  23. "Glory years"? Not much glory, just a bunch of one and outs. Not a fraud, but a bunch of average teams that were much better than the early Ryan years' teams. But no glory. Just exaggeration of mediocrity. The MacPhail years were the Glory years. Parades and WS Rings = glory.
  24. The Baltimore Orioles (2011-2012), Cleveland Indians (2012-2013), Pittsburgh Pirates (2011-2013), Boston Red Sox (2012-2013; ok they are not mid-market), Detroit Tigers (2005-2006) will disagree. Lots and lots of examples of rebuilding in a season or two, but they all required drastic change of FO and field management personnel. If you don't do that, you cannot rebuild in 1-2 years. That simple.
  25. I would think that it is a no-brainer as well, but there is overlap in skill set with Welker and Tonkin and I assume that one of these would replace Roenicke. Maybe another will replace Pressly if he is converted back to a starter in the minors. Frankly, I'd rather see Olilveros than Fien have a spot on the 40-man (and 25-man) roster (because what he did is not sustainable and started to regress in the last couple months) ; however, not sure that the Twins see it this way.
