  1. Fun. Now if you can get rid of that flash...
  2. Jason Bartlett is old news by now, but it was also reported that the Twins have re-signed Deolis Guerra (which is good news)
  3. I hope this is a sign that the Twins will bring back Matt Garza (and Eduardo Morlan) I see this as a potential AAA depth signing, and somewhat redundant to the re-signing of Doug Bernier. If Bartlett plays for the Twins in 2014, unless he is back to his crazy Rays season form, it would mean that 2014 was a waste too...
  4. He signed Carroll in 2012. Totally unnecessary . Jason Bartlett too
  5. I agree with you, especially with Escobar able to play quite a few positions, but Ryan does not. Proof? 2 words: Jamey Carroll...
  6. Define "bad". I bet he would had been the Ace for the Twins in 2013.
  7. I think that it is all relative. Only Meyer (really) has top of the rotation potential. Steward possibly, but he has to pitch a few innings more and not against kids who just grabbed wooden bats for their first time in their lives, to really cement that potential. Other than that we are talking about back of the rotation starters, and the 2011-3 Twins are prime examples of what happens when you fill a team with back of the rotation starters. The other reason that so many pitchers are so high, is that other than in the top 5 or so, there are not really any exceptional position player prospects. Even the top of the second tier of position prospects are close to average minor leaguers (like C/C+ prospects) at this point.
  8. That was in another Millennium. Jim Pohlad is not alive. The Pohlad kids had/have nothing to do with baseball (and it is so painfully obvious) and the contraction. DNA does not carry blame. However, the Front Office that was working under Pohlad for the contraction is still around (Other than Bell who retired). So if you want to blame current Twins' personnel for that, look at St. Peter, Ryan and Co and not the Pohlads. They were not around, St. Peter, Ryan & Co were. History will tell, but still not sure whether the contraction was not more of a boogeyman tactic for 2 uninterested fan-bases, which resulting in moving one team (Expos) and a new ballpark for the other (Twins.) Interestingly enough, similar rumors have been heard this millennium for the As and the Rays...
  9. Something like this, and with a surprise name in the bottom: 1. Sano 2. Buxton 3. Meyer 4. Rosario 5. Steward 6. May 7. Berrios 8. F. Jose 9. Kepler 10. Gonsalves 11. Eaves 12. Walker 13. Harrison 14. Minier 15. Baxendale 16. Vargas 17. Polanco 18. Thorpe 19. Z. Jones 20. Brian Gilbert (RHP) Pinto and Tonkin graduated. Almost included 17 yo Venezuelan Alexis Tapia, who is probably the best of the Twins' DSL pitchers and might make the jump to the US this spring training.
  10. If that's the rotation, Ryan needs to get fired. How many games will the Twins win with this rotation? Given that you are replacing Hughes for Pelfrey and Gibson for Diamond practically, for a team that lost 96...
  11. This guy does not belong in here because of age/performance/level/lack of tools combination. I suspect if he were from NJ instead of MN, he would not be in the list: Many better choices out there; I'd take Dan Rohlfing who at the same age, did better in New Britain and played up to AAA last season... And what an unfortunate trade if you see what Sanudo did in the Houston system...
  12. That has been estimated to $35 million. So Ryan has the following $ to spend to bring a winner in 2014 (and beyond) : $215+35M = $240 M est. revenues 52% of that is $125 M . $60 M is allocated already, which leaves: $65 million. A good GM can create a competitive team with that much cash to spend in free agency and in trade and sign situations (if necessary.) Let's see what Ryan will do. No excuses.
  13. Opinion and not a fact. I think that all three will get something like 2+1 or 3+1 contracts. Even Correia got a 2 year contact
  14. How many wins for this team? I think that it is always important to ask this question. If the answer is less than 86, then more changes are needed. And this lineup and bench contain a whole bunch of people who were part of the problem the last couple years...
  15. I like Worley too and I think that it is up to him to get back in shape and improve. Again, I think that the Twins need 3 pitchers better than Correia to compete of whom at least a couple need to be top of the rotation types. Swarzak and Worley are not that and a rotation of Swarzak, Worley, Correia, Gibson, Deduno/Diamond will be one of the same. Swarzak has been very valuable in the pen, why mess with that?
  16. This was just an exercise looking at free agents who fit these specific 3 criteria. The reason that pitchers with slow stuff are excluded (from this exercise) is that the Twins and their system are full of them. And if someone does not have a plus fastball, to be a top of the rotation pitcher in a competitive team (this is what we are looking for here) he would need to have two other plus pitches. And that is a very tough order. And that would likely be a junk ball type of pitcher...
  17. Actually the starting premise is that they need to sign 3 pitchers better than Correia in order to compete. One out of 3 will not work. Also, durability and injury proneness is a consideration, but one cannot forecast injury. Very important: If someone gets injured, I hope that the pitcher who will pitch those innings would not be Albers/Hendriks/Diamond, but Alex Meyer. This is what teams with a winning philosophy do. They play their best pitchers, no matter how much "experience" they have or how many years of control might miss. Ask the Cardinals and Mr. Wacha.

  19. Ditto. Loved that game.
  20. So what do you call the Blackburn, Pavano and Capps contracts? And check his splits. Yankee stadium has been his problem. In 2013, he had a 3.88 ERA in away games...
  21. Another part of his progression is that he moved from starting to relieving full time in 2012. Certain pitchers (see: Perkins, Glenn e.g.) benefit from that. He is a really small guy too, maybe he just did not have the frame for starting.
  22. Not bad other than Arcia is the only LH power hitter the Twins have (sad times) and people seem to forget what kind of (expletive deleted) A.J. Pierzynski was to his former teammates, while the White Sox and want to bring him back. Not the first time that I've heard his name this off-season. Not happening with the Twins.
  23. This takes care of all your top 4 prospects Hope Eddie Rosario is watching his back
  24. Just the fact that Roberto Hernandez was once known as Fausto Carmona is enough for me to not sign him. Gives the wrong message and I would not like people like him in the clubhouse. Skill or not skill. Same reason I would not like ARod, even if he were free.
