  1. To see Sano. .189/.231/.270 Beyond Butterible. If he cannot hit the curve, he does not belong to the majors...
  2. Bummer and a great guy, but at 28, playing only 17 games in AAA and a .650 OPS, he was taking a deserved kids' job. Almost Tobyesque...
  3. Trade Hunter for $100 or so, and play the rest of the season with an OF or Rosario, Buxton and Hicks. While you are at it, DFA Robinson and bring up Danny Ortiz and start him at LF against LHP instead of Rosario. Or bring up Arcia. Might be better off overall...
  4. bad link
  5. Hard to understand what that is without context
  6. Ranked him 36th about a year ago. He will be higher this season. Looks like he will stick at SS. The comparable I gave was Alexi Ramirez who I think might be spot on.
  7. "Great Story"? For him maybe. Not for the Twins.
  8. Anonymous? Not that much Was 20th in a Twins' offseason prospect list. And I think that he cracked a top 10 list some years ago. Got a full profile there, about a year old, but I still think on target. His bat will be the deciding factor. As of now he looks a lot like Pedro Florimon or Rey Ordonez.
  9. Twins Rotation FIP, > 5 games started: Nolasco: 2.79 May: 3.15 Pelfrey: 4.02 Gibson: 4.10 Hughes: 4.72 Milone: 4.82 Santana: 5.56 Removing Pelfrey will be following exactly the MO of the Twins FO: get rid of the best starters and let the rest pitch
  10. Just had a quick look at the schedule: Houston (twice), Baltimore, Yankees, Tampa, Texas, Angels and some division games including 4 with KC. Not an easy schedule by any means. Quick edit: 24 games with teams with <.500 and 29 games with teams >.500 left
  11. Famous. Last. Words. Don't look, but they are 4 games out in the loss column from last place. So, if they are that incompetent (your words,) should they fire Ryan, St. Peter and the rest of the Front Office?
  12. Yeah: 1999- Traded George Williams to the Houston Astros. Received Josh Dimmick 2000- Traded Jared Camp to the Florida Marlins. Received Johan Santana and cash. 2000- Traded Francisco Alvarez to the Toronto Blue Jays. Received Mike Romano. 2000- Traded Mario Valdez to the Oakland Athletics. Received Danny Ardoin. 2004 - Traded B.J. Garbe to the Seattle Mariners. Received Pat Borders. 2006 - Traded Scott Tyler and Travis Bowyer to the Florida Marlins. Received Luis Castillo. 2006 - Traded a player to be named later to the Chicago Cubs. Received Phil Nevin and cash. The Minnesota Twins sent Adam Harben to the Chicago Cubs to complete the trade. 2007 - Traded Levale Speigner to the Washington Nationals. Received Darnell McDonald. The complete list of Ryan's Mark I (and bit of 2012 for Mark II) transactions is here.
  13. Then, either May is not, or Antony is full of it...
  14. Facts: Gibson first half FIP: 4.04 Gibson second half FIP: 4.46 Gibson first half BABIP: .271 Gibson second half BABIP: .384 He is not pitching that different, but has been unlucky. Once the BABIP decline, his results will be closer to the first half. ERA does not tell much of a story.
  15. Ding ding ding ding ding They just fired their CEO...
  16. Here is the thing: This season, between Santana's non-paid suspension and Nolasco's insurance payments, they saved about $10-15 million. Ryan chose not to invest that this season...
  17. I'd love to see accountability go with that responsibility, because if there is no accountability might as well have anyone being responsible...
  18. Originally published at The Tenth Inning Stretch ------- After the trading deadline passed and with the Twins' having the league's worst record in the last couple of months and their lead for the first and then the second wild-card position was getting smaller and smaller, there was hope that Terry Ryan will do something to improve the team in the 3 biggest positions of need, shortstop, catcher and the bullpen. But he did nothing, other than trading the teams' 18th and 25th prospects (and that is from this off-season) for a 30 year old middle reliever with another year of arbitration in the middle of a 4.22 FIP and 1.333 WHIP season (and aided by a .254 BABIP.) The Twins' fans feel that have every reason to be upset because of Ryan's inactivity. On the other hand, they should not be, because Ryan himself said exactly what he was going to do. “I have every intention of trying to improve this club and find a piece here and a piece there,” 7/31 The "a piece here and a piece there" should had clinched that Ryan will be up to his usual dumpster diving. “There’s nobody that’s more sensitive about that than me. They’ve done a hell of a job getting to this point, and we’re in a good position, and now it’s my responsibility to help the cause,” 7/31 It was his responsibility, but if nobody holds him accountable for not doing things he is responsible, might well be anyone's responsibility... “I’m aware that one correct move by me could help that cause immensely because it’s going to change that attitude in the clubhouse. I don’t want them thinking a white knight is coming around the corner, because it might not be. But it also is a possibility that you don’t have to tinker with this too much to get us going back in the right direction.” 7/31 Here you have it. Clearly; "might not be". And you don't have to tinker too much, just get a mediocre reliever who is slightly better that the awful ones that are with the club. "a piece here"; not a white knight; not an All-Star reliever. That would be too much tinkering. And here is the kicker: “We’re not going to mess around much with this major league team,” 7/31 And he didn't. True to his word. And you don't have to read between lines. It was all there. Why hope that Ryan will not be Terry Ryan in 2015, since he had been Terry Ryan since 1994 (with the small break of "retiring" to let someone else deal with the Santana and Mauer contract and the Ballpark situation, before returning.) This is Terry Ryan. And unless he goes away, the Twins' fans will not see another parade downtown Minneapolis. And if the Twins' owner cares about the Country Club more than winning, he should tell the team to one who cares about winning.
  19. He makes Butera look like Babe Ruth. Really.
  20. Because Terry Ryan is Terry Ryan.
  21. But this is not what Ryan has been doing. If this team were to rebuild the last 4 seasons, I would applaud 100%. But that would had meant no Correia, Pelfrey, Nolasco, Hughes, E. Santana, Hunter, Suzuki, Boyer, Burton, Stauffer, Schafer, Robinson, Bartlett, Kubel, Guerrier, Doumit, Morales, Willingham & Co. If they want to go with the kids, they should go with the kids and not do a half whatever job. They are not rebuilding this season, and they have not been rebuilding since 1999-2000 (and I would argue that that was contraction-driven, so Pohlad's profits would be maximized by the smallest payroll possible the year before contraction.)
  22. One of the two ain't bad.
  23. lately? First half he had a .240 BABIP. He is regressing to average and his ERA is trending towards his 3.55 FIP and 3.61 xFIP. Normal. He is 32.5 years old too, and is 2 mph off his peak slider velocity. Too bad the Twins did not sell high, hope they do it during the off-season, or consider him for what he should be: a 7th and 8th inning guy in a winning team.
  24. I don't think that it is that simple. The minor league hitting coordinator (who for the last 9 years up until 2014 was Bill Springman,) the minor league director and the GM are setting overall strategy, with the local hitting coaches trying to apply that strategy. Same thing for pitching, etc. So it is more than the local coaches' responsibility and success.
