  1. The timing is just not right for this right now. A couple seasons ago, after the 102 L team, was the proper time. Right now 3 of the division teams are very weak and Cleveland is worsening. The Twins have opportunity to win the Division and about $70 million to spend to do so. That said, I do not disagree with trading Kepler, Odorizzi, and Gibson, along with prospects like Gordon, Gonsalves etc to net (in combination with FA signings) a younger top of the rotation arm that will slot ahead of Berrios, a closer, a left hand set up man, and a couple of power bats that can play 1B/OF/DH, and maybe a second baseman for a season keeping the seat warm for Arraez (who is hitting close to .400 in Venezuela right now btw) Unlike many, I still have not given up on Sano (esp) and Buxton. Injuries happen and that's what happened in 2018 to both.
  2. Roster at 37 minus Field, Granite, Vasquez, Slegers, Busenitz, Curtiss, Magill, Drake is 29. Plenty of room for Graterol, Arraez, Jay, Gordon, Wade, Quezada and quality signings./trades and/or a pitcher in the minuses above Still hope that the Twins try to get an ace through a trade, and a few of the prospects are gone. BTW, Brusdal Graterol was signed on August 29th of 2014 and the MiLB season ended on September 1st that year, so he is Rule 5 eligible and a no-brainer to be added.
  3. Injury bug is one thing, and, yes, Baldelli might be able to help him return from it, by example. The big elephant in the room is Buxton's chronic Illness (migraines), and I hope that Baldelli's outcome against his chronic illness, is not what happens to Buxton.
  4. Molitor got better players in 2018 than he had in 2017 and he did worse. The Twins were the kings of the off-season according to many pundits. I hope that unlike Molitor who played favorites, Baldelli plays the best 9 every day , is rational regarding bullpen utilization, and he shows that he hates losing (unlike his predecessors) and lights fires under the players to do the same.
  5. So 27 year old Garver (career 98 OPS+) has shown more than 25 year old Miguel Sano (career 117 OPS+)? I love Romero, but he is the poster boy for having potential, but have not shown enough: 55-2/3 IP. 4.69 ERA, 4.45 FIP, 1.4 WHIP, 7.3 K/9 (lower than any other starter with more than 50 IP) Not sure that this is enough...
  6. Milwaukee? Have they won anything? I'd rather see them mimic Houston or Boston
  7. Unless you are talking about the other Carlos Santana (Oye como va mi ritmo), I see no way that the Phillies, who are competing and are closer to the post-season than the Twins, trading him.
  8. Sign Escobar for 2-3 years and pencil him in as the starting second baseman and take it from there. If and when one of the prospects is ready, Escobar returns to his super utility role.
  9. His BABIP was consistent to that of all his minor league career, so I do not see much of problem. K% will improve hopefully with maturity as a hitter
  10. I'd keep playing Polanco at SS as much as possible. The Twins' second baseman of the future seems to be Luis Arraez who is defensively limited at second base, and the future might be 2019...
  11. Agreed on Gibson & Cave. Other than a 1 K/9 bump and a small BABIP-driven decrease of WHIP and more innings with the Twins, Berrios's 2018 was identical with his 2017, and still included a drop in performance in the second half and much worse performance when facing opponents with winning records. Baby steps; not quite a blosom. Still a 3, until he can perform against the world the way he did against the Tigers, Royals, and White Sox, the jury is still out. Other notable on field positives: Polanco, suspension and all, improved this season and was ranked 9th wOBA and 10th in wRC+ among SSs with 300+ PA while having fairly average (+3 +/-, -1 DRS) defense in SS before entering his prime Taylor Rogers put himself some crazy numbers and quietly ranks among the top 5 LHRPs in categories such as WPA, ERA, FIP, & WHIP, even thought RHB are still hitting him hard, esp. away (.929 OPS against RHB away) and that masked his elite K% and K-BB% against LHB Taylor and Astrudillo are SSS. Parmelee was there once upon a time. The most hopeful event for the 2018 Twins happened just after the season ended: They will have a new manager from now on, hopefully someone who will light a fire under his players, will not play favorites with veterans/buddies, and be an astute manager of the bullpen
  12. I think that it is Shelton's job to lose. The fact that he is a former catcher will help him with the pitcher/bullpen managment as well.
  13. From there: ""The citizen, Miguel Sano, was sent today to the traffic court to comply with the due process in these types of cases," said Duran. "It is a formality when someone is injured in a vehicular accident. It is important to clarify that the policeman declared that the accident was not intentional, and that Sano hit his leg when Sano was reversing his vehicle to leave the place and that the baseball player was the first to provide help and never abandoned the scene. Neither the agent nor the national police plan to charge Sano with anything."" I hope that this is it with the media witch hunt.
  14. Kimbrel for the closer job, Britton for the LHSU job, May for the RHSU, Rogers as a loogy and the rest will fall into place. The Twins can afford it.
  15. You know that there is something called defamation, no? Unfortunately, he did not sue when he got defamed (based on all the non-evidence and the MLB investigation) last off-season. I hope he does it now...
  16. Most good people with the means to do so, offer to pay medical bills in an accident, innocent or not.
  17. There is something out three about being innocent until proven guilty... Guess it does not apply to certain Twins' fans...
  18. Trade for: SP Zack Wheeler & OF/DH Jay Bruce (Gonsalves, Kepler, Gordon, ?) Sign: SP Patrick Corbin (4/80) IF Eduardo Escobar or Asdrúbal Cabrera (3/18 or 2/10) CL Craig Kimbrel (3/45) LHSU Zach Britton (2/20) Net ~ + $70M or so. C Castro/Carver 1B Austin 2B Escobar SS Polanco 3B Sano LF Rosario CF Buxton RF Bruce UT Astubillo OF Cave UT ??? (DH rotating) SP Wheeler SP Corbin SP Berrios SP Gibson SP Pineda/Odorrizi CL Kimbrel LHSU Britton RHSU May LHRP Rogers 2RP 2 of Drake/Hildenberger/Magill/Mejia/De Jong/? mop up Odorizzi/Pineda Bada book. Bada boom
  19. I hope that you realize that the size of Buxton's "good" sample is even smaller than Cave's...
  20. WAR is positional. It uses different constants for different positions. Thus comparing centerfielders with third basemen is like comparing applesauce with guacamole.
  21. Cave: 1.5 bWAR 91 games --> 2.5 bWAR 150 games 1.3 fWAR 91 games --> 2.3 fWAR 150 games
  22. Sano and Buxton are two different cases and should not be treated the same. Sano's career numbers: 1612 PA, 117 OPS+, .347 wOBA, 116 wRC+. Buxton's career numbers: 1074 PA, 80 OPS+, .289 wOBA, 76 wRC+ Sano had a disappointing season, and despite that he has been a much above average major leaguer. The key for him is that he should be able to get in shape and stay healthy. He has proven that if he does so, he can hit. Buxton, other than single months, has had a disappointing career as a hitter. In addition to health, the key for him is that he learns how to produce consistently as a hitter, something that Sano, when healthy, has mastered. Apples and pineapples.
