OK. So he was manager of the year in 2019 when the Twins clobbered 300+ homers. That was the worst thing that could happen. They get to the playoffs and run into much better pitching and go out with a whimper. 2020, same thing in a Covid short season. 2021 the wheels fall off. If the Twins are such an analytical team and Baldelli is part of that, why isn't the emphasis more on OB% vs slugging. They have guys who simply can't or won't adapt to the shift so it's all or nothing. You have a high OBP and sprinkle in a homerun here and there and you'll score a lot more runs. Pitching is even worse. He gets 4 or 5 innings out of starters and then it's bullpen by committee. That's fine if you have 8 or 9 guys who are lights out every other day. So even though this isn't all on Baldelli, it's an organizational approach so the blame is all around. But there are in game moments where he leaves something to be desired. Especially close games. I don't think he's a bad manager, but I also don't think he's a real good one either. He tows the line that's drawn out for him.

The Numbers Behind Jose Miranda's Slump

Twins 4, A's 3: Bullpen Completes Sweep of Oakland
Schmoeman5 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In regards to Pagan, Justin Morneau made a comment that Pagan was working on a new grip. I know these pitchers work out every day. But if that's why he's struggling with his command then why isn't he in St.Paul trying to get his BB/9 back on track instead of in meaningful regular season games? Before this season his BB/9 ratio was 2.5/9 and now it's over 10. Or is that not an option- 40 replies

Twins 4, A's 3: Bullpen Completes Sweep of Oakland

And so far, the only teams who were ranked lower than the Twins when they played has been Baltimore and Oakland. According to MLB pipeline 1-30 weekly rankings. Yes I believe the schedule has been weak. And they did stumble vs the Orioles the final 2 games. But last years team would be 11-18 instead of 18-11- 40 replies

There's another way to look at it. The Tigers were near .500 when they played as was Boston and KC. and Cleveland. Tampa was over .500. Only Baltimore was way below .500 when they played. And if you read MLB's team rankings all except Baltimore were ranked ahead of Minnesota- 40 replies

Twins 4, A's 3: Bullpen Completes Sweep of Oakland
Schmoeman5 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would say his play in right has been solid. There was a fly ball Friday night that I believe should have been caught. Celestino has hit much better than anticipated and his OF play has been much better too. I wouldn't mind him staying in LF if he keeps it going. Subbing for Buxton on his off days. DH Larnach and have him in left on days Celestino is in CF upon Larnachs return. Miranda and or Lewis could possibly stay as I believe Kirilloff just won't be able to go every day and Urshela has been struggling. JMO- 40 replies

I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure the St. Louis Cardinals 1st employed the shift specifically against Ted Williams and the Red Sox in the 1946 World Series

I just want to add. I see a lot of comments in regards to Larnachs strong arm. Early this year and last year the comments were how slow he is and what a lollipop arm he has. He's among the league leaders in doubles, so he can't be that slow and he now has 3 or 4 outfield assists after 23 games he's played, not all of them in the outfield. What happened? Did his arm and legs get instantaneously stronger and faster?

I couldn't agree more. How does Pagan have a .156 WAR after loading the bases and barely getting out of the jam. That's why I don't buy all the metrics. Sure he gets the save. But the laws of average say if he keeps trending with high% of walks he's going to get burned

Is It Time to Start Worrying About Austin Martin?
Schmoeman5 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Couldn't agree more. I would love to see 5 or 6 high obp hitters sprinkled with 3 or 4 power bats who WILL put the ball in play vs a 30 to 40 homer guy that strikes out 200 times -
I'm curious. If Larnach is so slow, how come so many doubles? Shouldn't they just be long singles

The pitching got the Twins through tonight. But a couple of timely hits were enough. They'll get the bats going tomorrow

A nice series win vs Tampa Bay and I liked how the Twins scored by stringing together hits. Only 1 run by way of the long ball. Keep it going in Baltimore

So let's see how the Tampa Bay series goes. They have solid pitching and their offense hasn't gotten into gear yet. This will be a nice early test for the Twins. Let's see if they can keep it going.

You may know what you like, but that doesn't qualify you as an expert either. You're always ripping on people but glorify the superstars who are struggling as well because you KNOW they're going to break out. But the younger guys who are still trying to find their way get no reprieve. You want instant superstardom or just get rid of them and bring in the next batch.

Kirilloff, Smeltzer Hope to Rejoin Twins Soon
Schmoeman5 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Mr. Stat watcher. And if he goes 4 for 4 tomorrow, he'll make a baserunning error that will condemn him forever. Stop bashing everyone. When Carew hit .388 you probably complained that he couldn't hit .400- 18 replies

RpR. What do you know about baseball? Trevor Larnach is a much better outfielder. Did you see the homerun Garlick totally miss played in Boston. TL has a better arm and is much better at the plate. I read all your comments. The glass is always empty. Not even half full. If Carl Yaztremski was patrolling left field you'd complain.

You would complain if Bench was catching and your outfield was Mays Aaron and Clemente or since we're in the AL Kaline, Yaztremski and Mantle

Game Recap: Twins 6, Royals 5
Schmoeman5 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins are still doing the analytics thing in regards to T Larnach and left handers. And in regards to him making adjustments, he already has. His 1st 2 weeks he was pulling everything or trying to. He went through a lot of swing and misses. Now hes expanding to use all fields. Him and Kiriloff can hit. And back to the analytic guys. Show me the data that says he doesn't fare well against lefties. 2 if his 3 Homeruns have came off them. And he homered off Bubic when he was at Stanford. Not the major leagues, but he has seen him before. I'm all about wins. Let the future play, if it is indeed the future for the Twins -

To all fans. There is hope. Buxton is the key. He has to remain healthy. Same for Kiriloff. This wrist problem worries me though. I've never heard of a wrist injury that you can play through and then get surgery at years and. I'm not a doctor but I'm puzzled. Trevor Larnach helps in a big way. He can hit and he's a better outfielder than given credit for. Areaz, Donaldson, Polanco, and Sano on the infield. The catcher issue is crazy. Garver can only hit lefties, so he looks good on paper vs lefties. Vs righthanders the catchers are hitting around .200 combined. The starters need to toughen up. Get at least through 6 innings. And the pen needs to come in and throw strikes. Cut down on lead off walks which have been coming around to score at a prolific rate. They're playing bad baseball right now. And if the analytics guys are reading this. If starting pitchers can't see hitters that dreaded 3rd time through the lineup, why has there been 7 no hitters thrown as of May 20th?
