  1. I would pass on him too. Also, I can't wait to write a blog about Deduno when I have some time this offseason. Not that anyone will read it or change their minds, but at least I'll feel better when people try to insinuate that he is a lock for a rotation spot.
  2. From 2002 to 2010 the Twins rotation was not bad. Still, they didn't even manage to be league average? I have a hard time agreeing with this philosophy. Something to think about.
  3. Next year is Doumit's last right? If he refuses to catch he better learn to play 3b and give Plouffe some competition (like has already been pointed out). I guess it might come down to money. I'm sure he'll start the season with the Twins since he is under contract, but once Sano comes up he and Plouffe might be the odd men out. Thing is, Plouffe can play multiple positions and Doumit can't. This might turn out to be a bad decision for his career (but not necessarily for him in the long run).
  4. I've been a big Hendriks supporter for several years. I'm not as pissed about this move as I was with Benson. They are completely different scenarios. There is a whole lot more talent on the 40 man now than there was then. Plus, the Twins aren't relying on an unproven rookie from AA over him. I don't think Hendriks was progressing. This might actually be the best thing for him. I doubt the Twins could trade him for anything. Hopefully he lands somewhere he can succeed.
  5. Why is anyone concerned with lossing Hendricks, Deduno or diamond? These guys are a dime a dozen. I don't get the man crush love deduno gets around here. He had a lucky year and has shoulder issues. Plus, he's proven over his long professional career to be a bad pitcher. One year won't change that for me, shoot, 2 years might not even. Pelfrey will have a better year than all 3. I'm not sure what type of deal he's looking for, but I wouldn't count him out yet. I agree that the twins need some bats. However, arcia will be better, sano will be up soon, florimon still posted a positive war, hicks can still hit as a rh batter, Rosario might still make it to the twins and buxton will start the year in aa. Lot of possible growth there. I'm most worried about hicks and if he can learn to switch hit. I really wish they would abandon it. He will lose millions in the long run if he never figures it out.
  6. At this point Plouffe is simply a role player holding down 3b for Sano. Guys like him are still valuable on teams. He has position flexibility with some power. I see him staying with the Twins for several more years until they have better options coming up.
  7. I'm excited about Hughes. If the figures of the deal are 3/24 I don't see how there is anything to not like. The worst you're getting is a below average starter, with his potential being much higher. I don't think he can be considered potential top of the rotation arm, but he is young enough and has the talent to be pretty good for the Twins. If he can sit around a 4 ERA I would be pretty happy his production.
  8. Wow. I don't post for a month and all the sudden everyone thinks Deduno is a real MLB pitcher? Some projecting him to be one of the best in the rotation for 2014? I just might completely stop posting until spring.
  9. Empty your PM inbox Dave.
  10. I would go 6. I expect pelfrey to be more like his second half than first, which means a pretty solid starter. All I want is legit talent on the roster, and with one signing they completely changed the starting rotation.
  11. So Jack, can you divulge what indicators led you believe Mike Pelfrey is worth bringing back? Obviously he began the season coming off TJ surgery so some struggling was to be expected. As the season wore on he became pretty good and his peripherals showed he was better than his ERA suggested. Can we get a nugget about him from you?
  12. Another Big Ten win! I have to hand it to this team, they play hard and just keep getting better. No way they beat Indiana at the beginning of the year. Hopefully they can keep it up, get ranked and find their way into a cool bowl game. I love watching a team that has some fight in them. Regardless of how they end the season, this is the most I've looked forward to watching a Gopher game since Mason's 28 point forth quarter collapse against Michigan.
  13. How much has your opinions on relevant statistics changed since you started? Have you been apart if the recent progression of drafting higher ceiling pitchers? Without giving away too much information, can you give us a peak at what the twins feel are important stats on both offensive and pitching? Side note, how good do the advanced stats say Buxton is going to be?
  14. If it is this obvious to us, what are the chances that Frazier is noticing it? Seems like they have some pretty good talent. Harrison Smith being out doesn't help. I wasn't even a fan of the defense with Frazier there.
  15. I don't get to watch gopher games as much as you guys do, but they looked like a different team Saturday. Much improved. I'd say the last few weeks has given this coaching staff a longer leash. I hope they can continue to progress and grow.
  16. Because the Angels organization is one the Twins should be stealing people from...
  17. I'm optimistic Baxendale can develop into a back of the rotation starter. Would be a great boost for the Twins.
  18. Nicely done. I doubt they go over 120m. I'm not sure signing Santana to that big of a contract is a good idea. Best scenario is the Twins sign someone like Santana or Bailey and Meyer, Berrios, Thorpe, Stewart are all in the rotation by the end of 2016.
  19. Hope his injury is good to go, I wont be totally convinced on it for a while. Shoulders tend to hang around and get worse when you are tired. Hopefully they can bring him along slowly in April and have a rotation spot for him by the end of May. Can't wait to see Sano, Meyer, Rosario next season!
  20. How can you say Patterson has been a bust? Whenever the dude gets his hands on the ball he's done good things. I wont judge him until they have a better QB. Rhodes is also completely terrible. The rest of the secondary is completely terrible. Answer this, why do they keep that piece of **** defense when it hasn't been effective for like 10 years? Fraizer is past my last nerve.
  21. Everyone knew the Tigers bullpen wasn't a strength. They just don't seem to assemble very good bullpens. Boston, however, has done very well with their bullpen. Also, the Tigers didn't lose that series because of their bullpen, they lost it because they scored less than 3 runs in 4 of the 6 games. Hard to win if you can't score. I'm looking forward to your coming posts.
  22. That seems pretty low for Slegers Seth. He had some pretty good success in college and hopefully can continue it in professional ball. I loved the draft pick.
  23. Adding Lincecum and Johnson would significantly help. Someone like Morales would be a nice stop-gap at 1b. Plus, it would allow you to play Pinto every time a lefty is on the mound. Regardless if Doumit is kept, I think Pinto should be with the Twins as the primary back-up. Those guys with a full season of Gibson, increased production from Arcia and not a black-hole in CF can add to 16 more wins. Its all hypothetical, but adding a little talent in the offseason helps win games.
  24. I think there is more than that, but that connection alone is better than nothing. I mean, anyone who has been here would want to come back right? He's kinda one of us.
  25. My guess: 1. Pelfrey 2. Correia 3. Gibson 4. Worley 5. Josh Johnson- Torn here. It is pretty hard to predict at this point. No way Deduno should start in the rotation. I don't think he ever sees the MLB again... well, this is the Twins rotation so I guess anything is possible. I really don't think Terry Ryan is going to improve this team very much in FA. I think Johnson is the most likely because of the local tie and that he needs to prove he is better than 2013. If this is the rotation, I would be ok with it. My ideal rotation for 2014: 1. Josh Johnson 2. Tim Lincecum 3. Gibson 4. Correia 5. Pelfrey If Meyer pitches well enough to consider bringing up before the trade deadline Johnson could be trade bait (if he pitches well enough). I'd rather have legit MLB arms waiting in the minors than guys you cross your fingers on. Plus, that rotation might be good enough to win some games while costing less than 30m. Add in Kendrys Morales to a moderate contract and see what happens. Sano, Rosario and possibly Meyer will all be adding talent at some point.
