  1. Who is in charge of hiring a new pitching coach? What is your plan to remedy a staff that has been a perennial failure? Does there need to be an organizational philosophy change, simple change in field staff, or is it the talent level of the players? Who is to be held accountable for this?
  2. I really couldn't disagree more. A control pitcher, like Slowey, is no more likely to make it in the MLB than a guy that throws hard, like Meyer. That, is the fallacy the Twins were playing off for a decade and the draft record shows that pretty well. Why draft a soft tossing SP that has an upside of back-end starter and might be destined for the pen when you have draft a guy like Burdi that will most likely reach the MLB faster and have a longer/better career? Soft tossing pitchers are not an effective strategy. Sure, you have guys like Maddox that break the mold. He is what they say the exception, not the rule.
  3. I'm not in favor of this. Buxton needs time at AA to adjust, and knock off rust. Sano needs time in the minors to knock off rust. Sano missed the whole 2014 season while Buxton mixed most of 2014. They will need time to get back into it, and using up ML service time is not the place for that. Unless you think this team will be a legit contender (which I 100% don't) you let that happen in the minors. If neither are up by the AS break.... I will have very different opinions.
  4. To me, the biggest thing Doug has going for him is the winning attitude. That is as important if not more important than anything else. That is where I feel Gardy failed and failed miserably. You have to have a leader that wants to win so bad it rubs off on everyone else. I'm not sure Molitor has that, but I am sure Doug does. The other parts of the debate lean toward Molitor. If Molitor does get the job, I would either like to see Doug go to AA or be the bench coach. Remember, Doug is still pretty young and a few more seasons as a manager in AA are not going to hurt him. If managers could be prospects, he would be one.
  5. Meyer, is anything but young. To give you some perspective, Meyer is only 11 months younger than Liam Hendriks. He is going to be 25 before spring training. Yeah, Randy Johnson didn't hit his stride until 28, but Randy Johnson was also one of the best pitchers all time.
  6. As long as a manager can adequately form a gameplan and prepare players, I don't really care who they are. Molitor is a different type than Gardy, so I wouldn't mind him. I'm much more concerned with the coaching choices.
  7. Interesting tid bit on Jorge that he lost a bunch of velocity. Haven't read that anywhere else. Also, given this report, I think expectations should be tempered on Meyer.
  8. According to espn, Molitor and the Twins will meet regarding the manager position. Lovullo, McEwing, and Dougie M are listed as other options being considered. I'm still on the Chili Davis kick. Ryan is also quoted as saying he wants the position filled quickly.
  9. I'm not sure about Rogers above Thorpe and Gonsalves.... actually I am, and think you're crazy Seth lol. Rogers so/9 has decreased as he's gone up the ladder. He looks like his ceiling is a back of the rotation starter, while Thorpe and Gonsalves both have much higher ceilings. Based on that, Rogers wouldn't make my top 15 probably. Not taking anything away from Rogers, he is still a good prospect and would most certainly be in the top 10 in most other teams list. Its all subjective though, and I enjoyed the write-up on each prospect. Well done.
  10. I'm bumping this because of the helplessness the pirates are displaying again in the playoffs. This pitch to contact theory does not work in this context. I would have to do more research on it, but when every pitch is magnified this ideology fails. One game isn't enough to put together knee jerk reactions, so more data would be necessary.
  11. At the end of post I forgot I was supposed to be answering a question....
  12. I don't think JJ Hardy has quick anything, and he is a great SS. Gordon is just a kid.
  13. Who are the pitching coach candidates worth talking about? Curt Young, the pitching coach for the A's, has been brilliant in his time with the A's. I don't think the Twins will be stealing him anytime soon. So lets get into more reasonable candidates. Brad Arnsberg. In 2011 was a fall-guy for a goofy Astros front office. He openly argued with the GM in a dugout (I couldn't find the details about it). Credited for many success stories in his time there, especially working with young players and turning Bret Myers career around. Rick Rodriguez. A pitching coach for the A's in the minors, he has been in the organization and got to work with Rick Peterson (pitching coordinator Baltimore now) and Beane. Seems like he'd be a good fit for the job. Past Twins stars. Circle me Bert, Viola, Morris... Any of those guys could be on the Twins list for potential hires. I think we'll have to see who gets hired as manger first, but I wont count out obscure former Twins as candidates.
  14. Funny how that decision has remained vivid for so long.
  15. Dave, nobody knows how much better a different manager would have done. What we do know, is the Twins were terrible under Gardy. That, is all that really matters right now. I don't buy the argument nobody else could have done better. You can have that opinion. You can have the opinion Gardy was the best man for the job. I think more will be on the other side of the fence.
  16. I like several of the candidates. Davis, would be my favorite though. I just like saying Chilli Davis, and it reminds me of winning WS tittles. Seems like a cool fit to me. Who cares about the other stuff.
  17. To assume this is squarely on the Pohlad's shoulders is asinine. Why not fire Terry Ryan? He, after all, is the one keeping Gardy in charge, keeping the PR people, keeping the staff.. ect. Of course they could have decided it is all Gardy's fault, but I don't think they are that ignorant. Jim has been around baseball for a long time. At some point, change needs to be made. I think this is going to benefit both parties. Gardy didn't seem positive anymore. He seemed frustrated and exasperated. He's just a manager, he will find another job if he wants it, and plenty will be in line for this one.
  18. Nobody in Minnesota is going to bad mouth that man. I've wanted a change for several years now, not because he isn't a good person. Rather, for a new perspective. I genuinely believe his players cared for him. I hope he stays in baseball. Sometimes people just need a change in scenery, not always just players.
  19. I'm surprised by this move too. Looks like there is going to be some serious changes happening. I am optimistic and anxious about what the future holds. We're going to be looking at a new era of the Twins with new faces soon. I just hope they target the right person for the job.
  20. Where did you see this? Link, or quote?
  21. I'm going to hope for the best, and that is change.
  22. As much as I hate that stadium, I pull for Redmond down there. They will be a strong team as soon as next year.
  23. Seth, you sound close to the situation. Any other details you feel able to share? Why is your opinion that Lucas should have stayed? I'm obviously that worried about this move 1) because I didn't get to see the impact Lucas had 2) because the Twins pitchers haven't just not been doing well at the MLB, they have had a ton of injuries and only this season look like prospects have taken steps. Change has to happen right now. Some, will be undeserving of being let go. Others, should be but wont. Unfortunately, who the Twins fire is going to be the main talker this offseason.
  24. Please tell me this isn't the move the Twins use to "fix" their pitching problems. I'm fine with moving on from Lucas with the lack of success the Twins have had. I'm reserving a complete opinion until I see what other dominoes start to fall.
  25. Lol, when a 640 ops is improving.... you got yourself a problem. Seth, I continue to disagree with your opinion if the handling of May, but agree with the rest of your points. Compared to a year ago, I call this season a disappointment. There was more talent in this team and more positivity.... yet they still amassed 90 losses. I was expecting better.
