  1. It doesn't have to be pandering. Clinton didn't think she needed their vote either, she was wrong and so are you. Like Levi has said, if the democrats continue to ignore that segment of the population they will struggle. The message doesn't have to pander to them, the message just needs to at least reach them and provide a solution rather than ignoring the issues they have. To me it's an easy conversation to show unions do more for the everyday worker than the pandering to corporate America the republicans do. If the party doesn't find a way to reach these people they will not move forward. I actually think the lose was the best thing for the party. The win by trump is going to mask many of the problems the republicans have. The party remains fractured and now has all branches of government. I could see them losing all in 4 years.
  2. I'm not so sure Warren would have done any better than Clinton, maybe worse. While she is exceptionally smart and a great leader for liberals, i don't see her connecting with the people whom voted trump. Biden on the other hand, might have been interesting.
  3. Wow. I can't imagine what fights are like with two of the most politically powerful people on the planet. I'm pretty sure everyone on this thread (outside of chi... Sorry chi) saw this flaw very early in her campaign. It's a shame really. Her team was completely out of touch with the voters. The scandals hurt, but were nothing in comparison to what trump endured. Hopefully the party can put together a new message that reaches out to more than simply social liberals.
  4. Dexter Mr robot Stranger things House of cards I'm not really a binge watcher but really enjoyed those.
  5. You're all posting too fast for me to read and comment these days. Only so much time to mess around. The electoral college conversation is a good one. It's obvious something has to change. I'm really not ok with rural states votes worth more than urban state votes. Levi you're justification just really doesn't sit well with me. The dangers of the majority can be very real. That is why we have 3 branches of government and Congress. In California's case, the only place the population has an advantage is the house, and that is split into districts anyway so rural voices are still heard. So the people in LA are really getting screwed. Why even vote? I know you've stated your preference for a hybrid model, but how would that work? Maybe I'll do some analysis tomorrow evening.
  6. Really unfortunate. Hopefully next year they put a qb out there that can actually be the difference maker in a positive way. Leidner seems like a great guy and I have no doubt he will succeed after college.
  7. Holy ****. I'm embarrassed to be an American this morning. Now, with Republican held offices.... this might get scary. Not to mention we're again going to get a ****ing conservative in the supreme court. That is the biggest disappointment to me. I have to take a break from the thread for a while. I'm really upset right now.
  8. This election is ****ing stressing me out. I could care less if trump wad the president if there wasn't a supreme court justice already on the line. Plus, Iowa voted in Steve king again. **** me Iowa.
  9. Let's just be happy for 5 minutes....
  10. I'm voting against Grassley for this very topic. Ultimately it was his decision to follow Mitch McConnell. It has been a topic in Iowa, but amazingly people just seem to not care. It's pretty incredible really. The divide between metro areas and rural is fairly stark, I'm guessing that is consistent with everywhere though.
  11. I think he tries to take that into consideration. I think the polling is going to be a ways off this year. The dynamics of this election are just not going to follow previous models well.
  12. It really feels like the polls are being fabricated to keep interest high. If the polls were a blow out nobody would care about the coverage anymore. It won't be surprising when the media claims the margin of victory is a shocker.
  13. Worst rule in college football. The nfl has done a pretty rational job of implementing, but college has been terrible. This team is 7-2, how things would be different with competent qb play. Luckily, the tram is still young. I don't really care if Claus is still the coach, they still need talent. The only way to get talent is by being good. Nebraska just got hammered by Ohio state, and i feel the gophers match up well with them. Again, the gophers could find themselves in a conference deciding game with Wisconsin. While the losses shouldn't have happened, I'd say this team is playing ok this year. It's a shame there isn't a better qb on the roster, bit Mitch is gritty and has a lot of wins to his credit. Next weekend will be yuge.
  14. He is terrible. It's there really anything else to say? You can only spin it so many ways. I really wish nelson wasn't such an ass hat, we could have watched a potentially mediocre career. The qb performance at the u of m has been embarrassing.
  15. What's going to be really fun is when our species learns to bend space time and can teleport people and products instantly. What are we going to do then? I guess just explore space like star trek. That will be fun.
  16. Brock, it's not that they don't see it, it's that they actually want it. Regular people are supporting trump because they think he'll actually change something. How, exactly, he is going to do that is beyond me, but that is the overwhelming poplar opinion. These are the same people that believe our country is in terrible shape and can't do anything right. It is the same people that complain about government being unable to function yet still vote in politicians like Ted Cruz. It is the same people that actually think fox news us the only reliable source of information and the rest if the media lies. This is the environment we live in. This is why we're having struggles.
  17. After working and bring in Europe the last 3 weeks (germany particular), there are done very obvious things they are doing much better than us. However, there are also things we do much better. Thing is, republicans are basically throwing up their hands, plugging their ears, and saying "lalalala" anytime a policy comparison is drawn to Europe. Just because somebody presents an argument showing a single payer health system is viable, it doesn't also mean they are in favor of free college tuition. They are individual topics. Unfortunately, that is the direction the Republican party has been going when it comes to policy. Let's not pretend that the democrats are perfect, and nobody here is saying they are. That party also has to pull their head out. To me their problem is more about message than vision for the future. I don't think Clinton is going to be successful in changing that.
  18. I would be happy with a top 50 and a top 100. Asking for more is probably asking too much.
  19. Wow, really had to dig to find this thread. Looks like we're on the brink of another cold war. Hopefully this doesn't escalate that far, but when schools are getting hit by missiles.... The rage inside is difficult to contain.
  20. Where does it stop though? How, in the ****, do these people still have a voice? Why is Megan Kelly, the outcast for asking real questions? This party should be bending over backwards for this woman because of the journalistic credit she provides. Seriously, without her, fox news now would look a lot like a bunch of old white southerners.... draw parallels, it was intentional. Why even have his dumb ass on when he behaves like that. I would get fired in my job. I wouldn't make millions and live like Newt, I can guarantee that. Why don't people wake up and see these people for what they are? I throw up in my mouth knowing that not long ago i supported this party up and down. Was i drinking cool aid? Or was the party actually based on balancing the budget, growing the economy, strong foreign policy, and ending corruption? I don't want to admit to being played.
  21. How great he was? You serious? I don't think Newt is the symbol or designated speaker for the party. I really hope after this election the Republican party cleans their hands of trump and those that have contributed to his rise. They aren't uneducated, even if most of their voters are. I have to believe there is some sanity left in the party to help fill the void they've created the last 8 years. If they again double down, I have a hard time ever seeing them win an election. They have to change the message. There is no choice. Their voting base is dying, and the new generation hates them.
  22. I live in nw Iowa. We have Comcast and apparently only get 350 gb of data. I called and complained that it is so small, and wasn't transparent at the beginning of our pan. I didn't have to pay overage fees, but still think it's lame.
  23. I know i was going to post about this from other countries point of view, but I've been too drunk. In reality, we all know what is happening, and so does everyone else. The embarrassing thing, is that everyone else in the world also knows what's happening. Then i have to break down what's happening in American politics, and it gets complicated. It also feels life an excuse. Just sucks doesn't it.
  24. I pay for sling. Between the two packages, pretty much everything you need. Unfortunately, we all have a limited data package by our isp don't we. I got a notification last month that we exceeded it. Needless to say, i want happy about it.
  25. I will post opinions from abroad a little later. I'm in Germany now and have the perspective from others around the world. I get asked often about our election, and it's embarrassment.
