  1. I guess I should. But nonetheless, whether Stewart works out, I like the process (development) all the same. I mean Stewart was available for the Rule 5 last year, and he looked somewhat okay in his MLB exposure--I'd say that's pretty significant jump. And no question, it's a dicey group of starters. Whether Perez or Corbin, the rest are still dicey. This team is built on a lot of hope. (Which is why I advocate restraint in the FA market, unpopularly).
  2. Well, I think that's Perez's actual role (unless he adjusts to their plan and kills it as a starter). I suppose we could just throw down for Keuchel, but I'm not so down for that. I see this as depth move. And he's not so expensive that we can't just cut bait if the plan for him doesn't work out.
  3. That's fair. I can't judge their process or the result as of yet. (And again, I'm only hopeful about their process because of what Stewart said about his own development)
  4. Well, duh. Then what is the point of acquiring Perez as the "second starter"? The premise of my reply was that Perez would be a good second addition to the rotation....
  5. I value process over outcome, in terms of evaluating an organization and the people running it. Perez already pushes Meija, much less any of our AAA/AA starters, out of the of the rotation. A second starter pushes Ordozzi/Gibson/Pineda out of the rotation.
  6. Trading either Kepler or Buxton at their current value is silly foolish.
  7. LoMo clearly didn't work out, but it doesn't mean the Twins were wrong for buying him at the price-point they did (after all he hit, what 38 dingers the previous year). But Perez at that contract (as opposed to a minor league one, or one with escalators) suggests the FO sees something we do not; whether that's correct I don't know. But I remember an awful lot of hand-wringing over Annibal Sanchez and although, he didn't do it for the Twins, he put in a better season than ANYONE anticipated. Maybe it doesn't pan out, but I hope that the Twins data/video approach to developing pitchers in the minor leagues (see Stewart) pays dividends at the major league. Perez is just 27 after all.
  8. Universal DH? No. (Baseball has an incredible distinction in that the disparate leagues play by different rules). 20-second clock? Yes. (Sorry neurotic weirdos that needs to lick the bottom of their cleat before throwing to home). Roster size? Why the heck not? (More is better. This would mean ASTUDILLO). Anti-tanking? Um, how? (Baseball is one of the few sports that the fanbase can sustain engagement by interest in what's coming next. I know, as I've huffed fumes on Sano/Buxton for the better part of decade).
  9. I believe the FO sees something readily fixable in Martin Perez, and I think other teams did too, given the reports that he had other offers. Reading about what the organization did with Kohl Stewart gives me hope that they can apply it to Perez, who was a very highly thought of prospect (BA rated him in the top 100 five times, and in the top 30ish three times), and may have been pushed a bit too aggressively.
  10. At least he wore red.
  11. Don't die. But if you do, at least make the news.
  12. Right. This is what Mike Green is responding too. If making it easier to vote is a power grab; conversely, making it harder to vote is one too. That abject, translucent self-interest from Senator Turtle is none too surprising these days.
  13. This is heavy jacket weather in Arizona, for sure.
  14. Mere low 70s here in Arizona.
  15. At least the judge recused himself prior to sentencing, after the jury found the defendant guilty.
  16. If the Indians can do it, why not the Twins? Central Tradition /brofist

  18. I tend to think the systemic threat, because it spills into unwitting situations like this, deserves the focus, not the low-population/influence hate group, which nonetheless should be part of the story, and the feature even in other prominent stories.
  19. Locking up some players would go a long way to assuaging my frustration with their lack of spending this off-season. But, of course, the two (spending on FAs and locking up the core) aren't mutually exclusive; but front-loaded contracts could make this season's payroll a bit more palatable.
  20. I'll say it again: the reason the BIs aren't the focus is because they don't present a systemic threat (as awful as the are) like MAGA does.
  21. It's not the cap it's the symbol, and symbols whether on flags, uniforms, or hats have always borne out significant reactions. There are symbols I can think on a hat or a hoodie or whatever that would obviously trigger a reaction. MAGA isn't as deplorable as some logos/symbols, but it is obvious that the hats stir-the-pot/poke-the-bear.
  22. I should let Ben speak for himself. But it was pretty clear he was trying to convey that MAGA hats trigger all kinds of groups generally. I don't think he meant that as a defense of Black Isarealists but rather that the choice to wear a MAGA hat is an incendiary one. And, look, the Black Isarealites totally suck, and I think everyone agree on that (or nearly everyone reasonable). But they are not a manifestation of a larger cultural movement--which is why the MAGA kids become the focus of the story. I can see how people believe that's unfair to the individual kids. However bad the Black Isarealites are, wearing a MAGA hat isn't an innocent/peace-making choice.
