  1. The Republicans will totally play nice with a practical, slow move towards Medicare for all! If the goal is to prevent a Republican backlash, might as well just let them win. They'll characterize what ever plan the Democrats offer as socialism. The lesson to be learned from the reaction to ACA shouldn't be "tone it down and do everything on a smaller scale" but rather that even if we take a Republican idea from a Republican state and advocate for it, the Republicans will eat you alive.
  2. Oh so they are bargaining together now? But it's unrealistic to do it a the federal level? Let's not forget while we wait to get the perfect system right (how long would your plan take? sounds like decades to me), there are people without healthcare and who are going bankrupt because of medical bills. We can be politically expedient about this problem, even in the face of many logistical hurdles.
  3. Part of the appeal of single payer is having bargaining power. We lose a lot of that having 50 different bargainers instead of one. We can grandfather in a system of medicare-for-all, but campaigning on that notion is stupid in my mind.
  4. Liberal was a dirty word for a long time. And honestly, Levi's attitude is why there is a lot of pent up anger on the left. Liberals have every right to demand their values represented in their elected officials; that shouldn't be done with vitriol, but Klobuchar's turn towards the middle/establishment is fair game to criticize, esp. in light of how popular "radical" left policies are. At some point compromise is important (i.e. don't give up the good for the perfect), but we need not start negotiating our values at the 50-yard line (this is what Dems have done for decades), because when it's time to make legislation, the right will take their pound of flesh, and what we end up with will be further conservative.
  5. If I were the owner of the sign, I'd add another message along the lines of "Happy to share!"
  6. Regardless of whether they land Marwin, I'm glad the Twins aren't done looking to add assets.
  7. I thought contracts agreed to in lieu of arbitration are non-guaranteed?
  8. This is probably worthy of its own thread. Marwin would add more talent and flexibility but there's not an open spot in the line up for him, and I imagine it would end any chance of Astudillo making the opening day roster.
  9. I just think this a unique and unfortunate case. The error that led to confirmation bias was trusting the victim's account (as opposed to a wrong-headed view of objective facts). (Indeed did anybody anticipate he paid his attackers? That wasn't really within the realm of reason when the story first broke). And if the lesson to be learned is to distrust victims until their story is proven true, well I'm not on board. Jussie, or whatever his name is, has set back our ability to believe victims and that's just a damn shame. It's similar how the Duke Lacross case probably chilled the reporting of rape as result of the alleged-victim's lies. Though here, at least, there weren't any accused persons victimized by the false accusation. (I don't view the Nigerians as victims (beyond their own poverty and depravity to do such thing) as they took money to commit violence.)
  10. Maybe something is about to drop. Some speculate that Mueller is simply wrapping up the obstruction part of the probe, but the Russian conspiracy investigation still remains. It doesn't make sense that he's totally wrapping up b/c the Stone case is just starting; I doubt the FBI has even finished reviewing all the data/documents they found from their search warrant on Stone's home. Mueller may also drop a report prior to finishing the investigation because he has enough evidence the President is indeed a "Russian agent" and should be impeached, so expediency is of the upmost import. Of course, new AG Barr can screen any report, and he has said that such a report should not be critical of any unindicted person. Or put otherwise, if the report is critical of Trump he'll redact it.
  11. Who the heck said that? I totally value your take. We need to quit trying to take out-roads when discussing things upon things we disagree!
  12. I'm a media junkie, so don't follow my lead, but here's what I do: Playstation Vue ($45), Netflix ($9), HBO (recently, cuz True Detective, soon Game of Thrones) ($15), all through Cox internet 10 GB ($45). Everything is kosher, but my wifi skitz out frequently, not sure if the modem or the ISP. I also do the CBS thing because I'm a ****ing trekkie, and Discovery is a cool take on the trek-verse. I try to only acquire subscriptions that can canceled through clicks and not calls, but we'll see
  13. This is a very fair, and personal take. But it is not Bernie's fault that the Democrats have been Republican-lite for years.. You have a right wing party, and your party is just a bit more palatably left to distinguish yourself and your party, but you're really pro-wealth, pro-corporate, pro-war, pro-globalization. That's been the ****ing Democrats, **** that establishment. Really. Let's pay attention to what has happened in politics, and who benefits from running. For my personal experience, Bernie was the first person in politics to speak with passion and confidence what I actually feel/felt. That he's waded in bull**** for 30 years should count for him not against him. And the Democratic party has probably been corrupt for decades, that's how you get the Clintons as the candidate, or whatever thinned out field to pave the way for Gore/Kerry or whomever. There's been literally one liberal Senator in the Senate for decades (maybe Warren). Liberalism, much less socialism, has been a dirty word, until Bernie ****ing Sanders. I don't know that he deserves the nominimation, but he has the druthers to actually represent what I believe. Rather than a bunch of wallstreet candidates who play the liberal populism card. I fear too many are being suckers to the anti-Bernie-bros card, and will settle for Clinton redux, and we will F-ing lose. I'm actually super disheartened by the cynicism of this thread; please, can we no longer call this board a bastion of liberalism, because it is not. That's not an insult, but this has truly been a moderate and reasonable place to discuss politics, notwithstanding the current president. Again, I felt I had ZERO voice before Bernie. Maybe that's nothing to you, but to me that's the definition of authenticity. Without Bernie, there would be NO talk of medicare-for-all, taxes on the wealthy. We should stop our bull**** character attack, and appreciate what his candidacy in 2016 provided even if he may not the candidate. /hattip Mike, he is old; and so may not be the best candidate/messenger for his platform.
  14. This is where I am. I'm willing to let the man and process play out; I have no loyalty to the man, but he still kinda seems the most real messenger for what I'm looking for.
  15. I guess we just have really different takes on the man. I don't see the pendanticness or the self-interest, like at all.
  16. What don't people like about Sanders? His policy? His demeanor? His supporters? He's authentic, and basically gave birth to mainstream socialism.
  17. The biggest gripe I have about Harris, like Kloubuchar, is that she's a former prosecutor. And I think that's fair criticism.
  18. I can't wait to hear how Saudi Arabia and Russia are exempt from such a campaign.
  19. Interesting thread. Glad to see someone who is a beneficiary of the MLB's union advocating for other union workers.
  20. Just a google search image, but hopes it adds clarity to an uneven discussion or something for an expert to correct.
  21. If it's on his heal, it could keep reopening due to rubbing on his shoe/cleat. I know I've had wounds like that. He just needs to be put on regiment so he can heal completely/ or given the gear to allow that healing while playing.. He's got a week before games, so hopefully he doesn't miss much, if any, time.
  22. I know very little about him, but there's been some buzz about this South Bend, Indiana mayor (Pete Buttigieg) running for president. I found him rather impressive from this interview. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/why-indiana-mayor-pete-buttigieg-believes-hed-make-a-good-president
  23. I don't see it as double counting so much as giving them credit for both results (the farm system) and the process (scouting).
