  1. He'll be eligible to come off the DL by the Future's Game. It's not as if his arm fell off, hopefully it's a short term thing.
  2. That they didn't DL him right away (2 day delay on a calf strain)? That another pitcher gets hurt? Or that if he would have been called up, he wouldn't have gotten hurt?
  3. While I'd like to see the kid play too, he's only on the active roster for a few days, as emergency infield depth and because he was added to the 40-man roster (probably sooner he would have been, if he was a drafted player) last winter. I'm not sure we have enough of the personal details to criticize the team's judgment. I'm sure the Twins would have preferred to keep him in the minors, but not so much as to make a 40-man roster move. If his stay is extended, well, I agree, he should be getting starts or he shouldn't be here. I'd also arguing that starting in Texas (against Darvish no less) and pinch hitting for Florimon down by four at the top of the seventh aren't equivalent pressures. The situation was hardly close and late, the exposure in that instance was relatively low-pressure (as least in the Twins' opinion, evidently).
  4. Fernando Romero has a torn UCL and is considering TJ surgery. Oi. Via Jeff Johnson from the Ceder Rapids Gazette
  5. You really think that's how they handle roster construction and injury prevention? They had three infielders get hurt within two weeks. How many more Florimons should we have at the end of the roster?
  6. These are cool.
  7. The Twins are going to have bevvy of guys who will be able to play both the infield and the outfield under team control for the foreseeable future; that kind of flexibility I think could really pay off over the long haul of unexpected injuries and decline.
  8. What a frustrating weeks of baseball. UGh. Well that excitement after the Morales signing sure has faded.
  9. It's not as if Meyer or May were thrown into the towel bin; don't worry the Twins will soon avail themselves of those two's talent, hopefully for a longtime. From my view, what you're neglecting is how the Twins are positioning themselves to maximize their pitching assets. Pino might not be the player that Meyer or May will one day become (or maybe (yes, maybe) are now), but Pino (or Johnson (and even Darnell)) might turn out to be valuable inning eaters or tradeable assets. 1.90 ERA 9ks an inning make an interesting case, in spite of what May has done, no matter the player's pedigree. The only certainty about promoting May (or Meyer) over Pino or Johnson is that it would be sexier and please the 'let-the-kids-play' crowd. What's correct, of course, is up for debate.
  10. To be fair, Pino might have outpitched May so far, though we can agree it's close. The Twins should see what they have in player whose likely at the end of his development, and it rewards success rather than (scholarship!) prospect-status or favored-son which I think is good for organizational moral.
  11. Here's some context for those who haven't read the books from Grantland.
  12. Pino isn't on the 40-man, so I assume Pelfrey is moved to the 60 DL; if indeed they are starting Pino instead of Deduno.
  13. Mike Berardino @MikeBerardino · 1h TBD RT @adam__beck: @MikeBerardino @RocRedWings Does this mean that Pino will be starting in place of Deduno on Thursday? ReplyReplied to 0 times RetweetRetweeted 0 times FavoriteFavorited 1 time1 More Mike Berardino @MikeBerardino · 1h LHP Sean Gilmartin (7-3, 3.13) promoted from New Britain to @RocRedWings. Starts tonight vs. Pawtucket in place of Yohan Pino (9-1, 1.92).
  14. Do you send Deduno down, or another pitcher, and Deduno to the bullpen? While Deduno always seemed to have upside given his movement, it's clear he can't consistently locate; we've given this pony a ride. Maybe he can harness his stuff in the bullpen, or perhaps it won't hurt him as much over short durations.
  15. Trevor May with a gem tonight 8 innings of shutout two hit ball, and eleven strikeouts so far.
  16. No, we should wait a couple days to start worrying, and then we'll reassess.
  17. Every older (male) cousin ever.
  18. My point is the Twins overemphasized giving him guys that already profiled as pitch-to-contact (at best)--rather than letting Anderson work with pitchers who had better stuff and velocity (who could, I don't know, actually benefit from Anderson's philosophy). By giving Anderson guys who already get the pitch-to-contact mantra, Anderson's capacity for influence isn't maximized, it's made redundant.
  19. Just curious, but are you willing to expand on your take?
  20. I'm looking forward to the verb Eduardoed on double plays.
  21. Last year was the only option was used, unless the Twins somehow bungled an option this year.
  22. Well, the DL saves the Twins from having to option Hicks, as he'll be eligible for a minor league rehab stint after he returns from the disabled list, and by that time the Twins might have a roster spot for him. Given Hicks' slow development, the options are particularly valuable.
  23. Given the talent Anderson has had to work with over the years (sans Santana and Liriano), it's hard to hold the specific failings under his tutelage. More, Anderson has coached plenty of pitchers who have never had the relative success that they had in Minnesota. If anything the Twins front office, overvalued and emphasized Anderson's capacity to make low-talent pitchers effective--that's hardly Anderson's fault.
  24. I more excited about this series than I have been about a non opening-day series in years!
  25. I didn't make it through the first episode. It's kinda cheesey. I don't think I get it.
