  1. I hope we don't hear the news of a fish hook in the eye or leg..... or elbow thrown out casting. Buxton's wrist sure has taken a long time to heal. These guys should learn how to slide the way the base stealing records were all set........... feet first.
  2. Dozier seems to be of the school that it is OK to have an all-star game with players that are not the all-tars. All for fun, but kind of pathetic in a "kidding on the square" type of way. Dozier may get on the team this year because the game is at Target, but a serious baseball fan that votes for him over Cano and Kinsler is ignoring the current years stats and the career performance that is also a part of being an all-star.
  3. D. Continuing to start Correia, Nolasco, and Pelfrey (before the DL stint, of course). If anybody needed called out in the dugout, it was/is them. To continue to use them, regardless of salary, is not trying to win. Playing so many out of position. His disdain for the press in interviews when asked tough but good questions. His constant inability to notice the starter is done and putting him out there for one more inning when the team was lucky to get out of the previous inning with the game still in reach. Continuing to use Burton. Bringing Parmelee in to pinch hit with a chance to win the game, but bringing him in to bat against a lefty. Having been and continuing to leave Joe Mauer in the 2 or 3 hole of the lineup. Not realizing streaks and player hot or cold trends fast enough to use them to the teams advantage. These are just a few. It is the manager's decisions in game. This team needs new blood 5 years ago.
  4. This should be great news for the Twins. The longer Pelfrey is not pitching again for the Twins, the better the chances for the team to be more successful and the better the opportunity for Meyer and May to join the team. IF the Twins miraculously play themselves into the playoffs, there is only one starter on the team right now that I can see helping the Twins advance, and that is Hughes. Gibson has some hope. Nolasco and Correia, making every team a whole team of .310 hitters......... is not something to look forward to. Pelfrey may be a nice guy, and that is great, but helping the team win is the most important.
  5. Is Meyer on a pitch limit? It seems strange that he would be removed from this game after 6 innings when he was only at 81 pitches.
  6. ..... but it was 5 RBI (4 hits). What does that do to the math? And do you consider he only had 1 RBI playing DH yesterday....... so now that is an average of 3 per game for the 2 total games played at DH........ or do you still just use the 5? It gets fuzzy projecting the future.
  7. I guess that is why they are insistent about staying with Correia. He certainly is consistent. Personally, I feel it is well past the time to cut bait and move on with the future in mind. Correia is the past, probably won't even be remembered as a Twin. Same with Pelfrey, even with the remaining year and a half....... think Mike Lamb. Think Puig and the spark. Nolasco......... they are stuck with. Think Barry Zito.
  8. It is certainly time to do whatever you can to remove Correia. Even the last game he pitched he pitched to a .375 batting average against. The Twins were quite lucky to only have the one run scored against him/them. I, for one, am not one to keep trotting (is it OK to refer to humans as trotting? I mean, horses trott to the two beat diagonal gait..... I don't want anyone to think I would be calling Correia a horse!) out a pitcher that gives me a lesser chance to win if I have better available and am 5-6 games back. I would much rather have the call-ups be pitching toward the middle of their season and with a fresher arm, giving them a better opportunity to succeed, than waiting until they are almost thrown out for the year, and find they are all of the sudden pitching like Pefrey last September. http://www.twinsdaily.com/images/misc/quote_icon.png Originally Posted by tobi0040 http://www.twinsdaily.com/images/buttons/viewpost-right.png Lets get rid of the garbage and give the fans something to be excited about. I agree 100%, worrying about depth and keeping more talented pitchers in AAA is exactly how you end up with the worst staff in the league for three years. I don't see this as calling anyone garbage, but more of a metaphor, and a gentle one at that.
  9. These 2014 stats are just as valid as the "small sample" of the last half of 2013. I think a lot can be told from small samples, especially if you are managing a team. It is important to be able to identify a players streaks and make lineup changes sooner than later to maximize the benefits to the team. Waiting for the average or the mean, will lose games that could be won.
  10. Diamond's last 10 starts: 4 earned in 2 innings, 4 in 3, 7 in 4, 2 in 6, 6 in 5, 1 in 6.2, 5 in 8, 3 in 5.1, 3 in 7, 7 in 3.1 I see no consistency, game to game, unless it is pitching poor. And this is AAA ball. That is why his ERA is 7.51. He really only found success possibly worth considering promotion in 3 games, while the others were screaming for demotion, with one push. Plus, the average against is .355.... in AAA. 2012 is a long time ago.
  11. Scott Diamond............. he may be wise to consider other pursuits sooner than later. The Twins would be wise to just release him and move on.
  12. An outing like Trevor May's today for the Twins would be so very welcome. Just putting the "ineffectivenes" in perspective. The rotation could use some of that not the best stuff.
  13. The bad luck article? So true. He was given opportunity after opportunity to reel it in. And things where looking hopeful again and fans were waxing for the return to the season that Burton "earned" his contract. Totally ineffective today, and then allowed to finish the inning. While it is part of a managers job to notice trends and use them, (no, really! I see it all over the league and quickly, just not here) a player doesn't get to throw away parts of his performance that makes him look bad. Yeah...... that happened, too. Today, he was totally hittable, and giving up 3 in the 8th is a recipe for the blowout.
  14. sorry........system error......... the edit created a new post..........
  15. I hear you....... but I also feel that it is up to a pitcher to be able to pick up his defense in those times, too. Nolasco has an average against of .322 this year. That is not all because of the defense. Playing infielders and catchers in the outfield is a whole other discussion.
  16. Pelfrey manages 43 strikes in 83 pitches. That is not promising. I don't see how Pelfrey can help this team now with May and Meyer knocking at the door. The way he gives up first inning runs and hits, I don't see how he could be a fit in the bullpen either.
  17. I like your enthusiasm for May, but I just don't see his season being "substantially" better than Meyer's. I don't deny that he currently has better numbers, but they are also really only one bad game away from being worse numbers. I like them both, way better than the prospect of Nolasco for 4 years and the continued presence of Pelfrey and Correia in the rotation.
  18. I guess I would reserve the word "great" for greatness, and not goodness. The first three starts still count. Certainly just about all great pitchers will have a few real rotten outings each year. 3 out of 5 and I am not ready to anoint Hughes an All-Star. He has time to become one, I guess, since the All-Star designation, especially with the fans voting as they do, has become quite fickle, and is only usually based on a hot start each year. If the All-Stars were picked and voted on for a whole season's work, the teams would rarely look like the same teams, and especially the pitchers.
  19. I didn't see all the games, of course, but it makes me wonder a bit. I feel that the official scorers in MLB have turned into charity workers when it comes to scoring fielding, with the charity going to the fielder and batter, and not the pitcher, who takes the brunt of the "gifts" to the fielders and batters. I always feel that if a professional baseball player can get his glove on the ball (of should have gotten his glove on the ball), that it is an error. I see so many balls in play that I think are obvious errors scored hits these days.
  20. I'm with you, benji21. I really feel that regardless of reasoning that can be adhered to for the minor league teams not doing well, that one of the top 3 rated minor league systems should also get wins as a team in a team sport along with the development. I am also surprised that is not happening. Talent is one thing, but the real talent in a team sport....... is winning as a team.
  21. Thanks for the great article and graphics. I really enjoy them both. It seems that Plouffe's hot start has been over for a couple of weeks now, though. If he gets back to how he started, it will be a rebound, and not a continued "hot start".
  22. This activity pleases me to no end. I do believe that many of those that have been holding on to the current Management in place and campaigning for them to stay in place and lead the way into future have now finally been tipped to the other side. Welcome aboard!
  23. Not a good time for Matty to flame out..... what with his opt out day coming up tomorrow. This could be good news for the Twins, though, so they will be forced to go with the future instead of grabbing on to more past the prime past. I am a little surprised that the highly rated farm system is not doing better this year. Sure, Sano and Buxton have been absent, but I thought the talent would also translate to stronger team play.
  24. More shortstops (Florimon, Escobar, and Santana...... and even Dozier, really) than catchers (Suzuki, Herrmann, and Pinto......... -can you still count Mauer-?) ????
