  1. I don't believe for a second Pelfrey has a strained groin. It is a good and safe ruse, though, especially for getting Pelfrey out of the rotation and off the 25 man roster.
  2. Hicks is responsible for Hicks' downfall. Hicks and Hicks alone. I am surprised that more the "rebuilding/trade at highest value" proponents aren't calling for Colabello to be traded now while at his highest value . I mean, why keep the good players just because they are getting a little old and can be traded for some prospects? Prospects prospects prospects......... get you some prospects. (please take this with a grain of salt. it is not meant to be baiting or trolling)
  3. Great call on Pelfrey. The best thing that can happen is for him to not pitch in games until he figures out what is up. Having him in the bullpen would be a disaster, as well.
  4. .......or...... take away a 3/4 day on April 6 and he is hitting .239. It is what it is and that is all that there is and he is heating up and will do just fine, regardless of the peanut gallery. 1 homer already..... 39 to go for 40!
  5. If Gibson got the correct calls by the umpires, his line would look a lot different. He is hitting the edges great. He just is the victim of bad umpiring, at this point.
  6. Thanks for the stat. I am well aware of this stat, and that facts are facts. I did say "us" supporters. I also remember that Joe Mauer didn't even play until May 1st in 2009, his MVP year. And I remember Justin Morneau was batting .202 on May 6th and .233 on May 27th in 2006, his MVP year. The season has always been a marathon, and not a sprint. It is nice when they come out of the blocks strong, but a lot of good things can still happen to great players when that doesn't happen.
  7. Would have been nice for Joe to answer the call and respond with a great day at the plate today for all us supporters. But alas...... another o-fer. Two K's, one looking and one swinging, and little two ground outs, one into a double play, and a sweep by the Oakland A's. I seem to remember Mauer often getting behind 0-1 and not getting ahead 1-0. Pitchers are usually laying it in there because they know he probably won't swing..... what is the percentage of takes on the first pitch for him anyway? 80%? 90%? Today....... all takes on the first pitch, three for strikes, and one for a ball, but it was right on the upper part of the strikezone, right down the middle, and by rule, could have been a strike, or, for many hitters, the meat they are hoping for to drive it out of the park. As for memory......... we see what we want to see, and hear what we want to hear.
  8. Well played Mauer........ er, i mean......... Bark's Lounge.
  9. Mauer is a great player, just the way he plays. And even though I appreciate that fully, I can't help to keep hoping that he grows into a slugger that uses that "perfect swing" and 6' 5" 240 pound athletic body to evolve and become the player his daddy always advertised he would. I can't help to keep hoping that this large strong man will just hit the ball 10-15 feet further on the fly, and the promise be fulfilled. I will even give up on the promise that he would be the next .400 hitter, for a .275 average and 40+ homers and 130 RBI instead. But I will also enjoy him as he is.
  10. This might be the best piece of sports journalism i have seen on this site. What a great article. Send it into SI, and get paid well.
  11. Chris "They tried to make me go to Korea but I said, 'No, no, no.'" Colabello is inspiring. I hope he stays in the lineup, everyday.
  12. It seems that the Twins have immediately demoted him and sent him back a level. Atlanta tends to produce better pitchers in their farm system than the Twins. I find the demotion from AAA back to AA curious.
  13. I totally agree with you about Presley (at least now we won't get confused by the different spelling of Presley and Pressly, who is also gone but not that far away.......). It is a sad comment on the ability of the GM to make a better trade, though. However, with Escobar in, I see no reason for Bartlett to be on the team at all.
  14. Actions speak way louder than words. There seems to be no consistency at all. It appears, from what has been said, that Gardenhire got the lineup he wanted. I hope he takes responsibility for it in the future.
  15. Wow. Bartlett in his prime was traded, but now, after being out of the game for a year and not able to hit at all........ he makes the roster. How he can be a centerfield backup is mind boggling. I am happy to see Hicks starting in center. I think by the end of the year, this team won't look anything like it does now. It is hard to know, as a player, whether there is a competition or not for a job. Gibson, yes. Kubel and Bartlett, no. Colabello, I hope so. Kris Johnson is the only return for Morneau, now. Bartlett makes the team. Mind boggling.
  16. http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/249982141.html It appears that Andrews missed the call on this big time!
  17. "Debby". Debby? Really? Debby?
  18. Kris Johnson, no matter how good the pre-story is, is not my idea of rebuilding. I wish him so very well, and hope that after the Red Sox discarded him, the Pirates tried and gave up, and he became a hope at 29 for the Twins, (not too much different than Walters Hendiks Diamond and Deduno in previous rebuilding years) that the Kris Jonson story goes viral. This is the 4th year of the rebuild, and no prospect is really changing things yet. All still hope (and with Gibson and now Sano, delayed hope). Now I like Kris Johnson and Chris Colabello, I hope they prove all wrong and are the best story of the Major Leagues this year. Fans and posters here will refer to Johnson or Colabello as a "kid", but they are definitely young men hanging on a dream. I think getting rid of Gardenhire, like the Red Sox did Valentine, couldn't have hurt (but I have felt that since 2006). Kris Johnson will have to perform much better than many others to be given that final shot at his age...... 29.
  19. Virtually the same payroll as last year. Middle of the road and worse starters were signed. If the front office was sincere about winning, they would have actually "spent" more money.
  20. What I remember about Gibson last year was that he got pinched on the strike zone drastically. So many of his great pitches just on the plate, especially the low part of the zone, were called balls. Bad umpiring making one almost throw it right down the middle to get a strike call. It is hard to not be nervous in those conditions. Until fx calls the balls and strikes, and it will and should, the game will continue to be compromised by blue, and the fake strike zones will affect the game more than can be quantified.
  21. jokin took care of the answer for me...... I just figured Twins' fans would know.
  22. For the Twins to sign some of the pitchers they have this off season, and not get Johan Santana signed and take a chance on him............ it is not encouraging.
  23. Talk is cheap. The actions of the last 10 years speaks way louder than what Gardenhire says now that he is fighting for a job that should have ended for sure this year, and for me, since 2006. If you truly want some attitude, stop trading away everyone that has it.
