Article: Jake Odorizzi Named Opening Day Starter
h2oface replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Since 2010, that is a pretty lame list of opening day starters. Hopefully, Berrios will settle in after the novelty Puerto Rico thing. With nerves in the homeland, I think it is the wrong decision, and would rather he had started the opener this year. Odorizzi... not too excited about. Personally, I hate having games at neutral stadiums, no matter where they are. Do these two games count as one missed home game apiece? If so, which one is the home game for the Twins? Or is one team sacrificing 2 home games?- 53 replies

Article: Tyler Duffey, Alan Busenitz Optioned
h2oface replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Busenitz was hardly the mop-up guy at the end of the year. Like Hildenberger, he was trusted more and more. I am betting Rodney will be gone by the end of May. I fear, with the hankering to hold on to Hughes and Rodney, that April and May will be less than hoped for. Those that get the shaft to start the season should be ready and warmed up when the washed up vet experiment is over.- 75 replies

Article: Jorge Polanco: I'm Really Sorry
h2oface replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think it is fine. Especially since, it is something that all players know up front what the penalty includes for several years now (wasn't Santana's year the first year of the change?) The rule is in place in advance of the behavior. Cause and effect. Seems fair to me. It is just the last part of the sentence. -
Article: Jorge Polanco: I'm Really Sorry
h2oface replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Mistake. A mistake has a motive of not wanting something to happen, but it happens anyway. A fielding error is an example. Making a left turn instead of a right because your mapping app is in a north south orientation and you didn't see it right, didn't transpose your position on the map... you do something which you did not intend to do.... that is a mistake. Deciding to do something, and hoping not to get caught, is not a mistake. It is a bad choice. Not a mistake. Bad choices are not mistakes. I was hoping for continued growth and improvement. Having this on his mind..... couldn't have helped him this spring. I will miss him. I won't miss an error (or two) every game this spring, though. -
Article: Twins 2018 Position Analysis: Catcher
h2oface replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is Garver's 27 year old season. He is no spring chicken anymore, not a youngster, and we all know that by 30 players are past their peak . Definitely time to swim. Astudillo. A-stud. What a great name. -
All it would take, is for Joe to join the launch angle evolution, hit .300ish with 35 homers, 100 rbi, 40 doubles, and 2 stolen bases. The perfect swing evolves in the mid thirties, grabs the power that his large strong body dormantly stores.....and he extends his career a productive 3-4 years and cruises into the HOF. Piece of cake.

Ah.... experience.... not learn, eh? Gibson is smart. Why would he express anything but boiler plate? $200 - 300 thousand means nothing? If I were in his position, needing to keep getting the opportunities to pitch, I would do the same thing. It really doesn't bother me, but my spindar is definitely tingling. Hell, it isn't my money, so I always say spend! But what does bother me, is when I am assigned an emotion by someone else, especially if it is in a condescending fashion.

Article: Twins 2018 Position Analysis: Third Base
h2oface replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am not one that is concerned about Sano, weight or no weight. I think he will be just fine. There is a cultural latino thing. All you have to do is live in and around LA to see and hear it. It is not malicious. Childish, yes. Persistent, yes. Hopeful, yes. Mean spirited, no. A super rich big child, that needs a trusted mentor. Missed the normal schooling because he was playing baseball. I have the same intramedullary rod/nail in my right tibia since 1991. And it was to repair a complete Tib/fib break, not a slight annoying stress fracture. It was very quick healing, and I ran a marathon on it. Tons of physicality in addition. Never a bit of trouble, to this day. Let him play baseball, and play third base.- 77 replies

Because they don't know the process?.... in all their previous experiences and positions that got them the jobs they now have? Right. That's what was said, but I don't buy that spin at all. Hopefully, they already were well aware of the process.

Left out of the Opportunity Cost.... Sanchez. A total waste of $417,000. And I don't care what anybody spins.... the cost of doing business, that's nothing in the grand scope of overall payroll (tell Gibson that, someone that is actually going to stick around, when they couldn't even pony up a couple hundred grand to his arbitration event....), etc..... Sanchez, as said at the time, was a total waste and a bad decision. A total throw away of almost half a million. That is bad management.

Maybe. Sure. Are you sure that this isn't MLB Trade Rumors? Because this is surely a fantasy that is just pure rumor fiction from your mind at this point. I can make things up and suppose, too........... but probably shouldn't.

Article: Do You Need An Ace To Win The World Series?
h2oface replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't know where or how being suspended for however much time it was for roiding fits in your assessment and reputation problem, but that is on HIM as far as I am concerned. And once a roider, it is impossible to tell how long he was. They all have a story, and it usually involves it was a mistake, and it was the only time. Sure. Sure it was, right?- 56 replies

Article: Do You Need An Ace To Win The World Series?
h2oface replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
And the time being referred to was the end of that (more than a) couple of stellar seasons (2011 to pre-trade 2015 with 2.25-2.82 ERAs ,<FIP not looked up>, and 2010 was really the beginning). He had a rough go with KC to end the 2015 season. But he put on his ace shoes for the WS. You can call him whatever you like for the period. Call him a #3 if you like. He had an untouchable run, and not just for one season. But we are heading off topic.........- 56 replies

I certainly don't think that "this board" is anymore of a collective expert than other sources. Many times, with it's homer tendency, and folks liking to assume collective consciousness, I find it just the opposite.- 56 replies

Article: Do You Need An Ace To Win The World Series?
h2oface replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have always been an advocate of not pitching your notably worse and inadequate #1 against their ace #1. Giving up the opening matchup to have the advantage on all the others. Maybe not #4, but #3..... Opening day, too. But I have never seen it happen. Some traditions and egos just can't be altered.... or can they?.... now. If you hit lightning in a bottle, and shuck their ace with your bats..... you really have an advantage moving forward. If not, you were supposed to lose anyway. There was a time it was deemed ridiculous to pitch your best reliever in a situation other than the closer. Some of us were calling to do that for years. Now those teams that do it are considered "ground breaking", even though fans were smarter and faster than them.- 56 replies

Well, I wasn't referring to specifics.... just the general feeling that it was a good signing, and the ways the stats could be interpreted that they would be better than they have been recently, again. To me, it doesn't matter what direction they are coming from, just the results. And Odorizzi seems to be a similar pitcher. So not to excited here.
