    I am certainly not saying that Rosario has a reason not to catch the ball in question. At all. The comment deals with the method of catching the ball with one hand two as the reason he dropped it, I do believe. (I think he just lost focus, as is the problem with the whole team right now). Let me know if that was not clear, and I will try harder. I have no Rosario showboat hate as I seem to be picking up from some comments.

    When was that last time you saw a MLB outfielder, any MLB outfielder, use two hands to catch a routine fly ball? And can you name the one(s) that do it all the time? I don't know of any. I am not saying it doesn't happen, but it is a rarity. Kids learning baseball? Always. But it is a thing of the past in the show, and not really needed anyway. I think the sun gave Rosario more problems on that catch than you might think.

    To be basically a .500 team for a little over a month...... is a pretty good worst stretch. If they win 3 of 5 from here on out... 41-27 in the last 68 games...... I would say that 99-63 would win the Central. Winning 6 out of 10 games from here on out is not asking a lot. Cleveland would have to go 45-23 to tie. Which is not looking impossible. So time to win some ball games.

    I so hate to see any professional team just give up at any point in any game. It happens way too often. No need to man/fansplain to me why they do it. I get it. I still hate it. People pay to see professionals give it their all, not throw in the towel. Baldelli, or any manager, can't make plays for their players. These errors are truly a lack of concentration, and not a "rough patch". These guys have been playing baseball for most of their life. They need focus, not drills. The know what to do. This a team that has lost more games than they have won since June 15. That is not a patch. That is a habit. A habit that needs changed to have the focus and spirit that got them 25 games above .500 by June.

    Jorge Alcala, with all that up side, is definitely not on the fast track to replace Pressly at the top of the bullpen, or anyone really, in any capacity, in MLB lineup. Hopefully, he is on a slow track, and the upside starts to take control.

    Are you counting "game thread" posts as a single post in the totals for your posters? Because if you are, it really skews your stats, in my opinion. I mean, game thread posts are so much more important and well thought out and informative and random (and get into food and beer and meaningful things), and all, and deserve so much more weight, don't you think?

    With Rogers developing all that trade value, isn't it about time for the FO to make a trade for prospects with potential and up side that maybe just maybe might if we are really really lucky be someone like Rogers in 3 to 5 years? You know, like the Ryan Pressly deal? Here's to a great second half, some fortifying trades, and a team that wins at least an average of 3 of 5 games, and doesn't turn into a .500 team for the second half, as seems to have happened the last month.

    I love that! I think intentionally throwing a ball at someone, anywhere, anytime, and especially at the head, is the most cowardly thing a baseball player can do. I think there should be consequences for the pitcher. They get away with murder. They should be held accountable. Seems fans just don't like to have fun. Lewis was funny and original. And in the minors. Fans and players just can't take it. It really is sad, in my opinion. Push-ups at second, funny. Throwing at a guys head, or body..... childish and totally cowardly, and needs to be stopped.

    I totally agree with you, Gonzo. To not pictch your ace against their ace increases your own ace's aceness. I feel the same way to start the season. Set the rotation so your #1 is facing off against their #2. And that follows your #2 against their #3, perhaps, and so on. The only disadvantage, in a sense, comes with their number one against your #5, in a rotation. But you could go their # 1 against your #3, and then their #2 against your #1 and their #3 against your #2, and your have pre-set the advantage in 2 out of 3 matchups. But I really dig your analysis even more. No need to go #1 against #1. If you beat their #1, which is not unreasonalbe, it sets up for a large advantage for the next two games. I like your thinking.

    Wasn't Pineda the 4th starter, and Perez the 5th? It was Perez that got bullpenned to start the season. Sure Perez has maybe, maybe pitched better overall (recent starts may disagree) but just declaring Pineda the 5th starter seems arbitrary, and actually a demotion because he has pitched the worst of the starters. It doesn't really matter..... the # assigned.... but a tad bit interesting to me. Is Pineda's performance as the 4th starter as acceptable?

    I would much rather have Arraez on the 25 man roster than Astudillo. Astudillo may be versatile, but his fielding is sub par at all positions.

    I wouldn't be at all surprised to see this team play .500 ball from here on out. That should still win the Central. But they need to beat teams that only win 1 out of 2 games from the rest of the league.

    Half a season is over, and Lewis clocks in hitting .224 with a .619 OPS even with a 2 home run night. That is downright pathetic in general, and for a number one overall pick, even worse. I don't know how anyone can put any frosting on it, but I am sure it is coming. Totally disappointing. Kirilloff still out. Graterol out. The top three are making this year a slow track, albeit injuries are never in the plan.

    I don't like Diaz's decisions at third base. He holds speedy runners and sends turtles. Personally, I think he has held way more than he should have and cost runs in close games. I don't like him making the decisions at third, at all.

    Unfortuneately, most of the guys on the Twins, when they try to bunt, can't do it. Pop it up, foul, or miss the ball all together. Seems like an easy skill to have.

    Didn't Boston have a 6 game winning streak going into this game? And they were pretty close to making it 7. I wouldn't call that "not playing that well", myself.

    Rule 6.06 (a) states that a batter is out for illegal action if, "he hits a ball with one or both feet on the ground entirely outside the batter's box." Like tennis, any part of the foot on the line counts as in the box. The umps seem to never call the violation of this rule when the players intentionally kick the back line into non-existent and have the back foot totally out of the box.... that has no demarcation anymore. That happens all the time and is ignored.

    What a great win. Kepler. Wow. Regarding Garver, I am sure he isn't giving himself a break for being a bonehead, and in the 6th, or whatever inning it was, there was no 17 innings in the picture. No need to baby him. He knows, and so does everybody that watched it. That cannot happen. By not pretending it is ok, he will get better for it. Garver is a stud, but no reason to diminish what happened because he played the whole game that he loves. He is a big boy. He can own it, and so can we. One could say it is his own fault the game couldn't be decided in 9. Would be nice to see the bats wake up tomorrow.

    $8 million to Pineda. $620K to Berrios. The inadequacies of the Players' Union's agreement. Pineda was the 4th starter at the beginning of season, no? I hope he continues to pitch better. Both he and Perez need upgrades for a playoff run, I think. They woud be great depth.

    Good luck with that. I still see Gaterol (he wants his r back) all the time, at least 5 to 6 different versions of Kirilloff, and Pressly is still getting abused and he isn't even on the team any more. Plus waiting in the wings...... Balazovic and Rortvedt, among others. Rogers seems like a relatively easy one to conquer, though (I hope I don't falter, myself). Hell, I still see an occasional Maurer! (Hey, there is where Graterol's r went)

    First of all, to all the Nibwits, I swear I heard Gibson all the way out here in LA, yell "BITE ME!" during his after game shower. Never fear, the nibwits will still be holding on to the past and will be biting at the bit to bring out their favorite, tired, lame greatest hit at the first sign of a bit of a control struggle in a future game. They just can't help themselves, like a skipping vinyl record. What a great game...... to win. It would have been a tragically sad one to lose. But good teams win the close ones. I have no problem, as it turned out, to have Rogers, on his first appearance back from the minor back problem that made him sit and rest, close out the game. But.....count me as one that still wants to see the rare complete game shutout. This was not a game that was pushing a pitcher that had already reached 120 pitches after the 8th. He was averaging 11 pitches per inning, and at 88, throwing a 2 hitter, was still dominating. And he now had a 2 run lead. You could send him out and see if he goes 1-2-3. If he gets a runner on, Rogers is still ready, and he can just ignore that runner, and pretend he started the inning with a one run lead, and the bases empty. Mind games aside, there was no downside whatsoever to let Gibson start the 9th and give him a shot at the shutout. Silly vanity stats, you say? Not near as silly as equating 12 pitches under 100 in a game, ONE GAME, a shutout game that is so rare these days.......one game in June.... to be so important for saving him in October. And complete game shutouts still mean a lot to a starter. That alone, and the added confidence it can give him, is worth giving him the 9th.

    I wouldn't be surprised if the Twins end up about a .500 team from here on out. Especially as the bullpen remains what it is and the starters regress. For a team that utilizes advanced stats and analytics so much, the bullpen has been screaming this was going to happen all year....... especially Parker, and Hildenberger, and even Rodgers, whose WHIP and average against indicates he has been pretty lucky. That should still get them the AL Central. But this team is ready for tweaks of improvement. Take the lucky performances and fortify, if the goal is the World Series. Astudillo is also part of the problem, not a solution. Like Colabello, take the hot spell as a gift, and move on. Not a fan.

    Yes, not the optimal throw for the tag. Regardless of whether the throw was optimal for the tag, it was easily catchable. He should catch it at least. Maybe he doesn't make the tag in time, but he should catch the ball. Just like when his target for the pitcher is the low and outside corner of the zone, and the pitcher completely misses the target and throws it to the high and inside part of the zone, he still needs to move his glove, and watch the ball into his glove, and make the catch. I give the error to Garver for sure, for not making the catch.

    Just like hitters miss the ball when they don't keep their head on it and look away too soon. Just like football receivers look down field just before the ball gets there and miss the pass. Just like Buxton dropped one earlier in the year ...... unfortunate, but not a deal breaker at all. Throwing a ball with no chance of success .... those are the errors that I hate.
