  1. Some evolve. Some don't. When you don't, there is a player now positioned where that sweet swing always hits the ball.
  2. And the time being referred to was the end of that (more than a) couple of stellar seasons (2011 to pre-trade 2015 with 2.25-2.82 ERAs ,<FIP not looked up>, and 2010 was really the beginning). He had a rough go with KC to end the 2015 season. But he put on his ace shoes for the WS. You can call him whatever you like for the period. Call him a #3 if you like. He had an untouchable run, and not just for one season. But we are heading off topic.........
  3. I certainly don't think that "this board" is anymore of a collective expert than other sources. Many times, with it's homer tendency, and folks liking to assume collective consciousness, I find it just the opposite.
  4. Now that is the 20-30 million dollar question. With the FO not getting it done through free agency or trade, it will be a developing question all year.
  5. If that is the case.... then why not have the advantage for 3 games in a row, instead of 2?
  6. I have always been an advocate of not pitching your notably worse and inadequate #1 against their ace #1. Giving up the opening matchup to have the advantage on all the others. Maybe not #4, but #3..... Opening day, too. But I have never seen it happen. Some traditions and egos just can't be altered.... or can they?.... now. If you hit lightning in a bottle, and shuck their ace with your bats..... you really have an advantage moving forward. If not, you were supposed to lose anyway. There was a time it was deemed ridiculous to pitch your best reliever in a situation other than the closer. Some of us were calling to do that for years. Now those teams that do it are considered "ground breaking", even though fans were smarter and faster than them.
  7. Does this team need an ace to win? In the playoffs? Absolutely.
  8. Well, I wasn't referring to specifics.... just the general feeling that it was a good signing, and the ways the stats could be interpreted that they would be better than they have been recently, again. To me, it doesn't matter what direction they are coming from, just the results. And Odorizzi seems to be a similar pitcher. So not to excited here.
  9. I heard similar projections about Nolasco and Pelfrey when signed. I hope for the best, but I really don't see Odorizzi as any different, and am not expecting results that wow.
  10. And then there was this, reported by Jeff Todd | February 28, 2018 at 1:13pm CDT, I MLB Trade Rumors: "It seems the Twins also feel their roster-building work is done, with chief baseball officer Derek Falvey telling reporters including Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press (Twitter link) that there’s a “high likelihood” the team has already compiled its Opening Day unit. Minnesota did make quite a few acquisitions over the winter, including recent moves for Jake Odorizzi and Logan Morrison that added fairly significant salary commitments for the 2018 season. Some have wondered whether another rotation piece would make sense, but that doesn’t seem to be in the plans at present. Minnesota is slated to open with a club-record $116MM+ payroll, though the organization had already been in nine figures to open each of the past three years." So much for the hype of an ace being the goal. Ordorizzi, to me, feels an awful lot like the "talk myself into the positive and hope" that I heard when other signings in the past, like Nolasco and Pelfrey, were what we waited all off season for....... Well, they talked a good rap. But that was all it was. Call me..... crushed.
  11. I wonder if Joe Mauer has heard anything about "launch angle"?
  12. "Thad Levine indicated some regret in the Twins’ loss, telling Twin Cities’ media "we were 29/30ths of the way there." I also read in some article, and not sure if it was Falvey or Levine, but I think it was Falvey... comment, that he was surprised that he wasn't claimed way earlier, and he expected he would be. So I don't know that I buy the spin that they thought they could sneak the shaggy one through, now.
  13. May as well get rid of the farm with trades. This FO won't be using/needing them.
  14. I agree. Thunder thighs. I want to see 50+ round trippers this year..... and he can say "Bite Me" to everyone! And what about Buxton's beard?
  15. Sure, you take what you get. Unless your client is dead, like Elvis, he/she can always disappoint the public, and not show up or be a pill. But make no mistake about it. This is not the days of the Babe. Conditioning and respect for your body matter. Getting fat is not genetics. Never has been, never will be. It is a direct result of how much one choses to put in one's mouth. If your metabolism is slower, or you are inactive, you need way less. Metabolism might be genetics. But getting fat never is. It doesn't mean that one can't be happy fat, but it is not something that one doesn't have a choice about.
  16. My thoughts? Well, Ok. It should be better, I hope. Can't say it excites me. I think Correia, Pelfrey, etc. Still hoping to get excited with the real significant help to the starting rotation. Someone I don't have to try to talk myself, or read others, into pretending he is what he isn't, or just wants to be..... a consensus ace.
  17. I am always amazed at the assumptions that are made, and the twisting of words, and the assignments of something to someone that is just fiction, and someone else's own creation. It must be a projection thing.
  18. I guess you like to be treated like this/that. Corporate history? I don't. Never did. Never will. They are smart enough to know that omission is telling. Sanchez is hardly something that needs played close to their vest, that they don't wear anyway.
  19. Who's bent? You? The statement stands. Not zero.
  20. I don't agree with the they don't "owe" us an explanation as to what they see or are doing. Why not? That kind of attitude by the FO in regards to the fans that make it all work, is disgusting.
  21. Taking a 40 man roster spot is NOT zero risk.
  22. Great article. I also think the defense, as well, was a big contributor. Or maybe he just performs better without the PEDs? Or maybe he has better, sneakier ones now..... naaaaa ..... that was just a blip. I don't think that he is doing that. But it is part of his history. But what kind of a person am I to bring that up? The thing is... once it is in your history, it is in your history.
  23. I thought the expectation was that they would rebound, and get back to their best year performance, not get worse.....
  24. Well, on the calendar, ever since Pope Gregory XIII, who introduced the Gregorian calendar to replace the inaccuracies of the then used Julian calendar in October 1582, Sunday is the start of a new week (even though it is widely considered the last day of the weekend). I guess one can consider the fiscal week instead, but that is a bit obtuse for this instance, in my mind. I guess I will give compromise and give it 'til midnight.......
