    I agree!!! WTF, why now??!! I think most people would agree that TR, with his scouting background, would make more good trades than bad but if he told Pohlad that he wasn't going to trade anybody at the deadline.... How much faith does anybody have in Rob Anthony??! For me, very little. And how much rope will they give him to make trades??

    And whats fair to the fans??! Terry's job should be to help the team long-term, not worry about a few players feelings. They're all getting paid very well, and should realize that if a player or three gets traded, its the best for the team in the long run.

    Good article. Explains a lot about how the Twins have lost so many games in recent years. Yet there is some optimism with all the young pitchers coming - Berrios, Jay, Gonsalves, Stewart, Jorge. Realistically they're 3-4 years away from making a major contribution, thats why its important to get the young catchers and Polanco up and playing, see what you have, get rid of some of the vets that aren't going to be help you 3 years from now.

    Listening to the game yesterday, they pinch-hit Centeno in the ninth, I'm thinking at the time 'one last at-bat for Centeno before they send him down and bring up Murphy'? Thats my prediction and I'm sticking to it, Centeno down after the all-star break and Murphy up.

    Another positive sign: E. Santana even without roids, is becoming the innings eater and reliable starter that the Twins were hoping for when they signed him. Winning ballgames starts with reliable starting pitching and he has provided that lately.

    Less $8 beers and $10 hot dogs sold is what will ultimately bring about change in management. When the money stops rolling in, heads will roll.

    But you can trade them. They helped dig this hole, if trading them helps the Twins in the long term, do it, don't worry about hurting their feelings, etc. Most players, when they hit free agency are going to do whats best for themselves, as in 'show me the money'.

    Good article Seth!! You hit the nail on the head!! Everything that could go wrong did go wrong!!! Hopefully TR can take advantage of the bad situation and make his own version of the Hu/Jepson trade. I've heard him say several times "we need to change the culture" -- trading some of the veterans like Plouffe, Dozier, and Santana would accomplish that!!!

    Hopefully the Twins learned their lesson concerning the third base/Sano/Plouffe situation and resolve the 2nd base situation, either by trading Dozier or Polanco. Trade one of them while their value is high, don't wait until Polanco proves that he's not a player or they have a roster crunch and have to DFA him, sell high on him (or Dozier). Not holding my breath....

    The Twins are looking for innings from their starters, no way he gets traded - unless some team sends a very good prospect. Not saying he shouldn't get traded -- he's 33, on the downhill slide without roids, big contract -- but the Twins won't be trading him.

    I agree, I like to listen to Inside Twins every Sunday, its definitely worth a listen to. You get a lot of good info about why something was done, for example why they demoted Berrios so fast. Of course he's going to be tight lipped about future moves but its more informative than the idle chatter on the internet. Does anybody know, is there a podcast of the show if you miss it?? On a related note, I like listening to Paul Molitor's show on Sunday morning too. Its an easy listen and pretty informative.

    I was fine with the move of May to the bullpen this spring, visions of what KC did with their shutdown bullpen, and now what the NYY are doing come to mind, but we've seen the trickle down affect of short starts by the Twins starters, the bullpen gets overused, wears down, and is less effective. Stretch him out and start him the rest of 2016. Thats what the Twins need at this point, starting pitching. The question I have is, what does he have to do, how well does he have to perform to stay as a starter in 2017?

    Does anybody outside of the Twins really know what the plan for May is?? People are 'assuming' that the Twins are going to leave him relief just because he appeared in relief - but doesn't he have to appear in relief in order to work up to starting??

    Not going to bother going back to 3 pages but the impression I got was that people were complaining about him pitching in relief again.

    I think they brought Buxton back too soon - granted, it was because of an injury, but lets not repeat the mistake. Leave Rosario in AAA for a few more weeks to make sure the 'take good at bats and play smarter' lesson is learned. Plus it gives Grossman a few more weeks to prove whether he was a flash in the pan or a serviceable player. It was almost too good to be true to think that two other teams had released him yet he was a keeper for the Twins.

    What I was thinking and didn't explain very well was: People are complaining about him pitching in a relief role in Rochester, He needs to pitch some innings and build up arm strength before they can start him. Whether those starts come in Rochester or Target Field is debatable but to me the process should be like spring training, longer relief outings each time in Rochester, a couple of starts in Rochester, then bring him back up. Bitching about a relief appearance in Rochester is stupid, at this point he just needs to pitch.

    Nick, I like all five of your steps!! 6) I would also add trade Nolasco (to the Dodgers?) so Berrios could be brought up. 7) Trade E. Santana to open up another starting spot so some of the other minor league starters can get some innings, they need to see what they have - but only trade him if they can get good value in return, I still think Santana can provide some stable innings next year.

    I didn't say anything about lowering prices. I think TR and the average ticket buying fans think that veteran players will win more games, more wins mean more fanny's in the seats, meaning more $8 beers and $10 hot dogs sold.
