  1. He said this; Twins are 10-2 against the White Sox and Brewers, 24-38 against the other teams. Actual, true statemant of fact!
  2. Tex is now out for the year would Morneau fit in with the Yankees? He'd likely hit some homeruns in that park.
  3. I don't want to be negative but Brock started it, this sucks!!
  4. So they let Slowey out of Federal prison for all the despicable things he did while with the Twins? A year and a half later and Gladden is still trashing the guy. Let it go!
  5. This is not a playoff team and TR isn't going to sign big time free agents to get there. He will try building with the draft and minor league signings, trades. (kind of on the cheap) The point isn't to play to lose but to play the guys that might be there in a few years that will help you win. We have a bunch of guys that are still big question marks and need to play full time. Guys like Willy, Doumit, Carroll and even Morneau are not the long term answer. So get what you can for these guys so young guys that may be the answer can play full time. Find out what you have and what you need to get if they aren't the answer. The side benifit of this is you likely will lose a few more games and get higher picks but the real benifit is you find out what the young guys can do.
  6. It doesn't seem likely that the Twins can expect to get much value back in July for any of these guys. If all you'll do is save a little money keep Morneau for the rest of the season. The idea of trading Perkins, likely the best trade chip, seems to turn most fans off. However if the Red Sox offered Xander Bogaerts, a top SS prospect, for Perkins would you do it?
  7. Maybe the Twins should have a free abacus day at the park for stat geeks? http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTh_b3zGuRSBPGOsjlSH4JTRLwIgReeYInOejHJUTQruegqunFE
  8. Back on topic: Gibby will likely have some good and bad moments between now and when he is shut down. There should be no need to worry that it may hurt our playoff run when he is bad so he should get every chance to learn and be in a better position come next April.
  9. This is kind of troubling that the founding fathers here would go the route of the strib and start censoring comments. Sad really! Be mad, be happy, complain, defend but everyone should be heard and it's much better to have the right to ignore a comment or person than to have the comment censored before you have that chance, IMO.
  10. Well Diamond is being consistent and that's all that counts.
  11. Yes we all know Joe is the greatest hitter of all time but the thread was is this his best year. He is not driving runners in at even a medicocre rate. Last year he was very good at 18% and like I said it isn't any more perfect a stat than yours. And he actually has the same % of runners on 1st base as Morneau but a lot less driven in. So IMO this is not close to his best year.
  12. Think we could get Verlander for Butera and maybe Worley? Or is that too much?
  13. I know some even a lot of people don't like the RBI stat. It's said you can't control the # of runners on base and other reasons. However, if you look at percentage of runners on base actually driven in it does give you a good or not idea (I'm not saying this is a perfect indicator) of production. Mauer is driving in 10% of all runners on base (14 out of 142). Floriman 15.8% (18 out of 114) and Morneau 17.7% (36 out of 203). Of course if you want real production Cabrera is driving in 23% (52 out of 225) of all runners on. These #'s don't include last night.
  14. Make any trade that will make the team better long term. However, there is no way in hell that the Twins trade either Sano or Buxton. Does anyone remember the last time Ryan traded a prospect for help at the "major league level"? The last time I can think of is Castillo from the Marlins for a couple mid level pitchers before the 2006 season. Before that I can't think of any.
  15. Yep this team is so good we don't need him!
  16. Don't forget the first game the "Twins" played was a 6-0 win over the Yankees back in 1961. Complete game shutout by Pedro Ramos.
  17. Pelfrey has never been anything but a mediocre pitcher. Career sub .500 record, mid 4 era in the NL and 1.5 whip, none of his numbers say anything about him being good. He is what he is probably a little better than what we've seen but nothing more than mediocre.
  18. I first recall baseball at the "major league level" from a saturday afternoon TV game in the early 50's when Enos Slaughter caught a ball in Yankees stadium that took a home run away. For a 5 or 6 yr old that was a really big deal that I have saved in my mind all these years while most other things have been lost. I didn't need advanced stats to enjoy the game, play the game or understand the game. I think it's a little arrogant to think it takes spending hours with or having a deep understanding of "advanced stats" to really understand the game. I am perfectly happy watching the games with the sound off like I was sitting in the bleachers at the old Met or at a town team game enjoying or not enjoying the game as the play unfolds. I kind of feel sorry for the people that can't enjoy the game for what it is without xyz this or abc that. But I'm old so nevermind!
  19. Gibson is at 80 innings pitched. With the Twins stated limit of 130 +/- he has about 8 starts left. If they really want him to see some action at "major league level" time is running out.
  20. If it's his non throwing shoulder it likely isn't a big deal but if it's his throwing side shoulder it has to cause some concern. How many times does a pitcher have a sore shoulder and it turns out to be nothing serious?
  21. When you are giving guys millions of dollars you should spend every effort to find out as much as possible about them. Look at all the stuff players go thru before the football draft.
  22. Hope they aren't using the taining staff to do it.
