  1. "But at the same time the Twins can't afford to take the slugger's potent bat out of the lineup." Did you really call him a slugger with a potent bat? I'd like your definition of both slugger and potent bat.
  2. Fact: The Twins have not won a playoff game since 2004. Fact: the goal is to win the World Series. Winning the world series takes winning 13 playoff games in one year. It takes 13 and we can't win one!! If you are happy with the Twins in the mix in the Central, winning a title every few years and going out 0-3 in the playoffs then Gardy should be retained. If you would like to see another deep run or real chance to win a world series then we need a change. Is it all Gardys fault no. But after this long and this record whatever he is doing is not helping or working when you consider post season. Insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Time to move on he had a nice run and will get a new job. How many managers last 10 years without a playoff win?
  3. Last Twins playoff win was in 2004. Since then the Indians have 6 wins the White Sox 12 with a world series title and Detroit has 20 wins with 2 trips to the series. Division titles don't mean much if you can't do something with them in the playoffs.
  4. 15 games a season makes, hand out the Cy Young and MVP and print the playoff tickets.
  5. It is amazing how much time is spent on here talking about backup catchers when we have a team that lost 195 games over the last two years. Don't you think we have bigger problems?
  6. Are we sure the Astors have the first claim? The first month of the season the order goes back to last year. Last year the Astros were in the NL which would give the Twins the first claim.
  7. I don't think healthy and Rich Harden fit in the same sentence.
  8. By all accounts the Nats are very happy with Span and Meyer has yet to throw a pitch at "the major league level". Maybe we should wait until he actually has some starts in the majors and proves he's the real deal before calling the trade one way or the other.
  9. Einstien said: "anyone can look like a genius if you use a small enough sample"!
  10. The big question is will he be here long enough for Gardy to get mad at him?
  11. "If a player is waived, any team may claim him. If more than one team claims the player from waivers, the team with the weakest record in the player's league gets preference. If no team in the player's league claims him, the claiming team with the weakest record in the other league gets preference. In the first month of the season, preference is determined using the previous year's standings."
  12. I think the twins have the first waiver claim on him having had the worst record in the AL last year. Unless someone wants to trade for him they could get him for next to nothing.
  13. The good thing is that Gardy works so well with young players that he can mentor Hicks and get him going in the "Twins Way". You know doing the little things they all do so well.
  14. Pitching, pitching, pitching. Can never have enough as we've found out. If he does well you can get something back for him in July if he stinks it certainly isn't going to break the bank.
  15. Evan a lousey hitter will walk, get on via errors and hbp. All stats need context and to say one is the gold standard is silly. At the end of the day the team with the most runs wins. It's hard to drive guys in that aren't on base and hard to score if the guy behind you strikes out. Context, it's a team game! To have a good team you need guys to get on base and guys to drive them in. Earl Weaver did it one way and Gene Mauch another who was right and who was wrong?
  16. I can understand that a high obp is a good thing. But in obp a walk is the same as a 3 run homer? If that is correct imo that makes the "more important" in this quote questionable. Player a walks twice and goes 0-2 = obp .500 correct. Player b hits a 3 run homer and goes 1-4 .250 obp correct. which is more important? Please correct me if i'm wrong!
  17. John, Carlos goes back a long ways you must be old. "The trick is in what one emphasizes. We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves happy. The amount of work is the same.” ― Carlos Castaneda No the trick as Twins fans is we can make ourselves both miserable and happy at the same time! On Morneau does anyone really think Ryan would give him (at 33 yrs old) a multi year 10+m contract if he has a good year?
  18. Always good to be starting the season hoping the rotation will be serviceable!
  19. Sad thing is he may be better than some of the guys we have.
  20. I would really like to know how many times would a 3 rd catcher really be required? Is it 1 or 2 innings a year? It seems like a total waste of a bench spot to have a 3rd catcher that may be needed for an inning or 2 and can't hit. If Mauer or Doumit get hurt you can have a replacement up the next day. When you have a thin bench anyway it makes no sense!
  21. Don't forget that the Pohlads were going to contract the Twins, as in no more Twins baseball, take the money and give the fans the finger. For me it will take a long time to get over that if ever!
  22. Reusse wants to keep his spot in the front of the Twins press box buffett line. Maybe Patrick and Souhan can co-author a book on the proper etiquette of being a real Twins fan. Never a negative word from those two.
  23. What has to happen on the field before it is time to make a change? We aren't talking about a guy that has won multiple world series titles. This isn't a HOF manager that has a great post season record of success. It's a manager that has won in a mostly poor division, and hasn't won a post season game since 2004. Sometimes that old chair or sweatshirt just has to go and start new!
  24. I guess the manager wins games but the players, umpires, injuries, ______ fill in the excuse lose the games? No Gardy isn't 100% at fault but at some point it's time to move on. 10-12 years with one team is a long time, turn the page and start fresh, imo. He'll get another job.
  25. It seems like a lot of guys making sure they keep a spot in the twins press box buffett line.
