  1. Have you been paying attention Seattle has been slashing payroll all winter.
  2. Better than the money sitting in the Pohlad bank isn't it? They still have money for pitching they just need to spend it.
  3. That ship has sailed. Baines is in and Oliva isn't? Might as well open the flood gates and let everyone in. Baines, .289/.356/.456, ops. 830; ops+ 121, war 38.7 took 22 years Hrbek, .282/.367/.481, ops. 848; ops+ 128, war 38.5 took 14 years Should Hrbek be in the Hall?
  4. 570-726 the last 8 years. The bar is rather low if that is sustained success, excellence.
  5. Or the players left off just aren't that good?
  6. The homeruns are nice but a guy that K's 36% of the time and doesn't have a position in the field..... He only played a few games in the outfield after 2015. Maybe the Yankees saw something when he did?
  7. Sorry to say I don't trust Sano so I would prefer they sign Moose. He can play 3B/DH and Sano can do 1B/DH and a little 3B. Prefer not to have one dimensional players.
  8. 27 years, one playoff series win and 6 playoff games won. I'm getting way to old for more wait until next year. Building something requires that you add some players that could be around to build with. All these one year contracts make no sense if you are trying to build something long term. Next winter what do they do about starting pitching when they start with Berrios and ? Looks to me like the marching orders are keep the payroll way down and no long term contracts. Spend the money on radio stations, malls or car dealerships instead.
  9. "It is well understood (and intuitively obvious) that on-base percentage correlates highly with run-scoring...…" With the Twins: Grossman: 1310 pa's, .371 obp scoring a run 12.3% of pa's Kepler; 1633 pa's, .313 obp scoring a run 12.2% of pa's Rosario: 2009 pa's, .312 obp scoring run 13.8% of pa's Mauer (last 3yrs) 1713 pa's, .366 obp scoring a run 11.7% of pa's
  10. Dan Hayes reports the Torreyes contract in a split ML/MinL contract and he has one more option year.
  11. If you don't count Torreyes that puts the payroll at $72MM +/- for 19 players by my count.
  12. They have the money to do all of those things and trade for Santana. Problem is will they? They always say money isn't an issue but the only time the GM spent up to the limit he got fired and the next year payroll was cut. My guess is the payroll will end up about $23MM lower than last year, around $100MM.
  13. Not all OBP is equal. Number of extra base hits and the players speed all impact how often the player scores. Grossman had an OBP of .371 with the Twins while Kepler had .313 yet both players scored at the same rate per pa's. So look a little closer at the OBP number they are not all created equal. Remember OBP rates a walk and a homerun the same.
  14. With the Indians likely to take another step back it seems like a perfect time to step up. They may or may not have plenty of money to spend (we don't know for sure what payroll cap the Pohlads have set) please go get 3-4 good players and put a decent team on the field.
  15. Segura has 4 years left and a 5th year option.
  16. I'm old enough to remember the Sears Christmas catalog. When it came it was I want that and that and that....
  17. Zero! That Cano deal is a killer. I'd give them Kepler and a prospect for Segura.
  18. Testing us to see if anyone is paying attention?
  19. Mike the money isn't spent until the season starts. They can have Cron in training camp and owe him very little if they let him go part way thru camp. The $5MM is not spent money.
  20. It's the end of November! Redundancy will be figured out in March. The money means nothing until sometime in spring training.
  21. One tool player OBP and nothing else. No speed, no defense, no arm and no power.
