  1. Ah Ervin, I seemingly erased him from my memory somehow. What was the issue with him? He got paid in free agency then got hurt, were there contract problems?
  2. Santana was traded 5 years before Berrios was drafted. Did Dozier and Escobar have trouble with negotiations or were they both just traded?
  3. There's 110 win pace they were on in the 1st 70 games, and there's 76 win pace they have been on in the last 26 games. I believe there is a happy medium.
  4. 1. Mitch Garver C 2. Jorge Polanco SS 3. Nelson Cruz DH 4. Miguel Sano 3B 5. Marwin Gonzalez RF 6. C.J. Cron 1B 7. Max Kepler CF 8. Jonathan Schoop 2B 9. Luis Arraez LF Starting Pitcher : Jose Berrios No Eddie
  5. Are we blaming the bullpen for last night's game? Twins last scored in the 3rd inning and Odorizzi gave up the tying run. Are we blaming the bullpen in the 4-3 lost the Indians? Twins had the bases loaded with zero outs and could only manage 1 run to the tie the game. Yes, May gave up the HR to Santana, but that's all the runs they scored the entire game. I get it, the meta thing is to rag on the bullpen and the front office, but outside of a few games where they blew up, the offense really hasn't been there for an extended period of time now.
  6. Ironically enough the bullpen has performed better than the starting pitching and the offense over the past 5-6 weeks. Maybe some of the players should look at themselves and figure out how to play good baseball again instead of blaming the front office, we all know they are capable of it.
  7. Why is cash wrong? They could have just let the Phillies claim him and have him for nothing, instead they get some cash kicked back. I see it as them trying to upgrade the bullpen by getting rid of dead weight, not being cheap.
  8. A couple things to note: 1. Even after the treading water for the past 5 weeks, the Twins still hold the 3rd best record in the American League and 2nd best run differential. 2. The Indians have basically been unbeatable. They are 22-7 in their last 29 games. They would have gained on anyone. Winning 75% of your games will do that.
  9. AH it was a 7 year extension, I should have noticed that. They didn't go to ARB this year. So they bought out all 4 years of his arbitration and gave him a 3 year extension onto that with 2 being team options. The contract will work out for both of them. If he doesn't play well, he probably won't vest that option and be able to hit FA after 2023. If he is good, he will earn the 10M and 12M, and hit FA after 2024.
  10. I wouldn't say it isn't valuable, but it's not like an end all stat, and you are right it is more of a "clutch" stat I suppose. If his HR would have came in the 5th and tied the game instead of the 8th when they were already up 2, he most certainly would have had a +WPA for the game.
  11. Because his other 3 plate appearances went K, groundout to begin an inning and GIDP with zero outs. His HR came after the team was already up 2 runs in the 8th inning. WPA is very situational.
  12. Boyd intrigues me. He has given up a lot of HR lately, but he has also missed a ton of bats, and walks so few. His slider is the real deal. You cannot be a mirage when you can strike guys out at the rate that he does. The only starters in the league who have a higher K/9 than he doers are Cole, Sale and Scherzer. Get this stat.....he has a higher K/9, lower BB/9 and lower HR/9 than Verlander does this season. He has had a little rougher run, but man.....there is a lot to like with him. Greene would worry me a lot more than Boyd does. His shiny 1.06 ERA is the mirage. The BABIP of .179 is unsustainable.
  13. Jorge's deal breaks down as follows: 2020: $3.8M 2021: $4.3M 2022: $5.5M 2023: $7.5M 2024: $10.5M 2025: $12M That's certainly not a bad contract for someone with just over 1000 PA who hit had a slash line of .272/.329/.420 slash line and had some pretty questionable defense at SS thus far in his career. Like JW stated, he also had the 80 game suspension last year and another screw up and he's gone for a year. Yes, the Twins had leverage, but they also took on risk he would improve as a player. So far this season it looked like they took a good risk, but the extension doesn't kick in until next season. This is literally a non-issue.
  14. The decision on Berrios should already be made but now it's just how much is it going to take to get done.
  15. While I agree with you Pineda probably has more upside, but he also provides a lot more risk. This will be his 9th year in the league and he has started more 20 games three times, with 2 more starts it will make 4. He hasn't exactly been durable. Pineda at his peak in 2011 was throwing his fastball an average of 95.4. In this years with the Yankees it was 94.7 and 94.1. Gibson this year is sitting at 93.9. There isn't a big difference in velocity at this point. Like I said, and I doubt he takes that role, but he has good stuff, he would probably make for an above average setup arm, but we all know how valuable starters are, even the ones that routinely only go about 5 innings.
  16. I wouldn't mind at all if they gave Gibson a 3 year deal with a 4th year option. Statistically speaking, he is having the best year of his career. Pineda is only a year younger than Gibson, has always had trouble staying healthy and wouldn't surprise me one bit if he was headed towards a bullpen role later in his career. I think he would thrive in a set up type role....now the question is would he be willing to accept that role.
  17. Polanco hasn't even started on his 6 year extension yet, and if you are him you are already looking for a trade to a team that will re-extend you 6+ years down the line? This makes zero sense.
  18. It wasn't a strong throw, when he flipped over he could see he didn't need to rifle to 3rd. No one likes giving up outs, but that was a bang-bang play across the diamond, I really think chastising Cave on it is going too far, but that's just my opinion. I would like to see an opposite camera angle. I can almost guarantee he was a 3rd of the way down the line as the ball came off the bat.
  19. Looking for a guy who has been good at Yankee stadium because the road might go thru there is flawed IMO. While Stroman might not be an ace, he would certainly be an upgrade to the rotation. As much as I think all of us want an ace, I don't think the front office should be thinking "Ace or bust" and upgrades to the team should be considered.
  20. 2 pages of optimism, 19 pages of "the world is ending" "this team is toast" "DFA fire everyone" and 7 pages of "woohoo"
  21. For those who maybe didn't see the play, it's here: https://cuts.diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2019/2019-07/18/af0c7379-879a0b62-8b2461eb-csvm-diamondx64-asset_1280x720_59_4000K.mp4 That is a hard hit ball. I am going to guess Cave has a modest lead off of 3rd so he can score off a routine ground ball in the IF. That ball is off of Kepler's bat and out of Olson's hand in about a second and a half. Cave takes one step towards home when it's off the bat and he has no chance of getting back. Even if he freezes 30 feet down the line he is going to have trouble getting back on a strong throw. Just unfortunate the ball was hit that hard and he was playing in the right spot. The Arreaz base running mistake was a far more mental one in my book.
  22. At that point he already warmed up and threw 16 pitches in the 8th. Someone else probably could have gotten the 3 outs, but.....I don't mind the decision at all to let him back out there.
  23. I really, really want that Rosario HR to the lynch pin to turn the offense as a whole around. It has all the details needed. Longest losing streak of the season, pinch hit HR, late and go ahead......
  24. For those who didn't see the HR.... https://bdata-producedclips.mlb.com/38034aed-17b0-428f-8de8-4c14e04422c9.mp4
