  1. I always liked Vargas's potential, but for $6.5M to get a guy who is proven, is more versatile and only 3 years older? Seems like a no brainer of an upgrade.
  2. In the next 4 years Greinke is making: Age 34: $34M Age 35: $34.5M Age 36: $35M Age 37: $35M 144/6 for Darvish only comes out to $24M a season and would take him through age 36 just for reference
  3. I'd rather take Darvish and keep the prospects and not to mention Greinke is already 34.
  4. Plus the deal is only for $4.5M. If Rodney ends up getting the $6, he hit incentives, which means he was probably at least semi-valuable this year.
  5. I'm a Rogers believer. He has the stuff but tend to think he he over pitches and over things out there. Outside of an awful month of July he was pretty damn dependable last year, I'm going to predict he turns a corner this year
  6. This isn't GM of the year, it's manager of the year.
  7. Where would you put De Leon then? A 25 year old with 25 IP of major league experience with arm problems. Better than a 4-5 back end starter? Dozier made $6M this year and$9M next year...where is the $12-15M coming from? If we wanted to shed Dozier's salary to sign pitching that's one thing but the guy has been nearly a 5 WAR played for 4 years running for his production.........is extremely cheap.
  8. Lock him up. The risks outweigh the rewards by going year to year. All it would take 1 year in the next 3 for Sano to harness his potential and put up 50 HR, 130 RBI with a .380 OBP and OPS of .900 for his price to go up dramatically. Health will always be a concern, but we should all know players of his talent don't come along very often.
  9. Even if that was the case, the Twins were not in any hurry to deal him. It's not like he was a pending free agent after this season. It was more based upon....was 2016 a career year outlier or Dozier was he improving as a player? Even if the Twins would have won 70 games this year if Dozier put up the exact numbers that he did, I don't think it would have changed anything.
  10. Yep, gotta agree. At first when I saw they were letting him go I felt bad....then the more I thought about it, I can't imagine why he would wnat to stay.
  11. 2nd half numbers: Lindor: .316/.377/.578 .955 OPS 3.4 fWAR Donaldson: .274/.397/.613 1.010 OPS 3.0 fWAR Trout: .296/.444/.551 .995 OPS 2.8 fWAR In that context they are very, very good comparisons to Trout.
  12. That's true they could have. Vargas is also a strikeout machine and they knew they would be pinch hitting for Adrianza who was due up next. There were other directions, but I am not going to roast them for the once they chose.
  13. This is great Tom, but like you said it takes all situations, every inning of every game but doesn't take batter or pitcher into consideration. You have Bentances on the mound who strikes out 39.4% of batters he faces and when the ball is hit into play he forces grounders 49% of the time. I could do the math, but I would have to think there is a much higher chance of a K or GIDP than there is a BB. Also, if the bunt is put into play, there are chances he beats it out and/or there is an error on the play. Meanwhile....even if Granite does get walked, someone has to put the ball into play. I guess it's just a personal opinion, but I don't mind the bunt in this situation with a weak hitter at the plate. Your good hitters need to come thru. Mauer K'd, Buck flied out. End of game. Most times I am very against the sac bunt, this wasn't one of them.
  14. Tough loss, but if you get down to 7th to the Yanks, it's basically over. They lost the game by not being able to lay Garcia's junk stuff all night. Expecting to score off Robertson-Betances-Chapman isn't how you beat the Yankees.
  15. You just compared Chapman to Kintzler..........
  16. That's fair, 1B is a stacked position for sluggers. That being said, with a team like this full of free swingers having a guy hit 305/385/420 with 800 OPS and 40 XBH has a ton of value.
  17. I agree 100%. He had thrown less than 80 pitches coming into the 7th inning, I don't have a problem with him going out there to start the inning.
  18. Because it's not true. ESPN is part of The Disney Company and while their numbers are down, their stock is up considerably over a 5 year period.
  19. Joe just keeps doing it over there at 1st
  20. How fun is this team? Buxton homers 3 times, Polanco homers from both sides of the plate, Dozier gets 4 hits, Rosario has a 2 HR night, Berrios strikes out a career high 11.......... these are full season highlights......that happened within a 5 day period!!
