  1. From MLB.com: RHP Gipson, Sawyer A reliever for much of his junior season at Mercer, Gipson-Long moved into the starting rotation and helped lead his school to the NCAA tournament, racking up 96 strikeouts in 79 innings, with a 4.90 ERA. The right-hander has the perfect body type for a pitcher, standing 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, with a fastball that gets up to 95 mph. He has a changeup to go with it, and a key for him will be developing his slider.
  2. Isn't the draft 40 rounds long? I'd like to see some pitching soon too, but we are barely even 15% thru this thing.
  3. Sure overall numbers he has overtaken him, that doesn't change the fact Kepler is indeed hitting better against RHP and it's been about an 4/1 ratio from a quick look standpoint. I would agree Buxton against lefties should be hitting 1-3 with the numbers he has put up, especially since it does indeed seem that Rocco pays attention to splits.
  4. Here are their 2019 stats against RHP. Kepler - .258/.349/.508 with 22 K's in 149 PA 15% Buxton - .238/.301/.467 with 31 K's in 133 PA or 24% So no, against right handed pitching, Buxton is not outproducing Kepler while striking out nearly 10% less. Now, Buxton is crushing left handed pitching this year, the problem is the Twins have seen very little left handed starting pitching.
  5. Which is why I shake my head when I see suggestions that Buck be moved up to 7th in the lineup. If he isn't batting in the top two positions in the lineup I would much rather see him at 9 where is batting in front of those guys.
  6. For everyone looking to Kimbrel as our savior, look at him in the playoffs last year. 10.2 IP, 9H, 8 ER, 8 BB, 10K. He was anything but dominate
  7. Score more than 2 runs off the rookie and then we can talk. Team left 10 men on base. Asking Hildy to throw a clean inning against the Tigers isn't a fantasy. If I am "pinning" the loss on anyone it's the offense personally.
  8. Not going to win scoring 3 runs very often. Also the 1st runs the bullpen allowed in a calendar week, which is pretty impressive. Take care of business in the 2nd half tonight and go for 3/4 tomorrow!
  9. Meh, save the FO bashing for times when this team drops games they should win. Good teams win close games and good teams have the ability to blow bad teams out, this team showed both of those things yesterday. The "woe is me, why would we add offense when we need relief pitching!!!!" trio of Cruz, Schoop and Cron combined to hit 5 HR yesterday. What are we out here doing if we can't sit back and enjoy wins once in awhile because there are other things to complain about? It's a long season. It's April.
  10. If I remember correctly the majority of this board bashed the hell out of Molitor by over working the top bullpen guys early in the season to see them falter towards the end. Now we are bashing Rocco for not over using the top guys early in the season.... That being said....Meija needs to get his sh...stuff together.
  11. I would LOVE to see the Twins sign Kimbrel, but unless he comes off of his demand of a 5 year deal, it shouldn't happen.
  12. But why? Game score is just a fabricated stat. You can still look at the box score and see Gonsalves threw 6 shutout innings. I don't see how it ruins the feel the of the game. I get how we are ingrained to watching baseball as you have a starter who goes as long as he can in a game. It's the way it's been done for so long. How much more does it "ruin the feel" to have a guy go 1 inning, the next guy go 6 rather than the starter go 6, then bringing in another guy to go 1? Are you really going to be so turned off by going from Moya to Gonsalves in the 2nd inning instead of the other way around in the 6th inning that you are going to turn off the game? In theory, if your starter can go the same amount of innings starting in inning 2, you could really limit when you use the back end of the bullpen.
  13. You are making him to the bad guy for NOT being traded because of his contract status. Yes, he has an expiring contract. You think the only way to show that he cares about the Twins and the franchise was to waive his no-trade clause this year?
  14. This is just a cheap pot shot at Joe. Born and raised in the Twin Cities, played his entire career in the system and with the Twins. His family is here, his friends are here, basically his entire life, but you want to take a shot at him for not being a "team player" and being traded in the twilight of his career to play ball away from all of that? Please. He earned and negotiated that no trade clause.
  15. Who says that starters are the best pitchers? Starters are the more valuable commodity because A)They have stamina to throw their best stuff for 85+ without substantial wearing down and they generally throw more than 2 above average pitches. On many teams the setup and closers have the best stuff for 1-2 innings out of any player on the staff, he just can't throw like that for more than a couple innings at best. In theory if you can get out of the 1st inning facing their toughest hitters with one of your better pitchers, it should be easier on the starter to go later into the game. I really don't think analytics have outsmarted anything. I really don't understand how so many people here have given up on trying this concept after just 2 games, against one of the top offenses in the league.
  16. It ruins the game? It ruins stats? So everyone that went to the game to see Kohl Strewart pitch today was ruined because he threw innings 2-6 instead of starting with inning 1? What's the difference if May threw the 1st instead of say the 7th? I think it's an interesting concept and have no qualms with them trying it out here late in this season.
  17. Field is not up because his performance is better than Buxton's. Field is a warm body who will be gone as soon as the season ends because quite frankly the Twins have no other OF options in September of what is a non-contending season. I think it's quite the overreaction to assume that anyone made Buxton play with a wrist injury and even bigger overreaction to say that the FO should be fired because of it. For all we know it flared up in his last few game or last game he played in.
  18. And it's one game. If this was the everyday lineup going forward everyone SHOULD be up in arms.
  19. Wait wait. He is not being sent home, he is simply not being called up. There is a big difference here. There is no mandatory rule that states a player on the 40 man roster has be called in September.
  20. What makes anyone think that Buxton can win a grievance against the Twins? Take away the prospect ranking and where he was drafted and no one blinks an eye at any of this. Yes, he had a few good months last year, outside of that he has been often injured and putting it nicely, lousy at the plate. It is well within the rules for the team to shut him down for the rest of season, and quite frankly....probably the smartest thing to do. Let him heal whatever he has going on and start him early next season.
  21. Agreed. I didn't see any of the game and thought there might be some light hearted LOLs in here today, but wow. A holiday Sunday road game in September from a team who has been out in awhile. A lineup that didn't feature Mauer, Rosario, Sano or Garver. A bullpen game from the start. Polanco, Kepler and Cave and Moya are the only players who played yesterday who should have a real future for the Twins. Not worth getting your panties in a bunch over.
  22. Ah, I thought I read he would have to be in the minors until after the 1st week of September to have the extra year, I could be wrong. I mean....who said he's perfectly fine though? His play earlier certainly didn't look fine...though he was healthy for parts of it.
