  1. When the poster insinuates that there is something wrong with the dollar amount spent by ranking there would give every appearance of believing the rankings.
  2. When you look at dollar amounts and rankings there is no correlation. Hence the problem in the picture is someone believes the rankings mean something. Unfair. Try cherrypicked numbers for his post http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/2017-team-team-international-signing-trackers/#QKg194xFZh19rleW.97
  3. Somebody believes the accuracy of prospect rankings of 16 year old kids
  4. Small sample sizes over the last two years, enough to know they players needed more work (Jorge, Turley) or not a longer term answer
  5. Jorge 5.50 ERA Wik 16.20 Tepesch 5.40 Turley 16.38 Last year Albers 9.45 ERA Dean 6.85 Millone 5.46
  6. It came in handy for watching Santiago start.
  7. 36 and older is not 34-35 and you know that. There are usually 3-4 pitchers that are 34-35. Usually not the injury prone. There is no reason that Santana could not be one of them. If he breaks down, then not. I would not be signng him to a long term contract, either. Year at a time with performance options.
  8. They do not make trades just to make trades. Their stated pattern is to gain long term assets for trades. If there is any crazy deal done it will be near the deadline. Cheer for Santiago and Santiago to keep doing well. Crazy deals where a team gets back a great growth asset usually involves pitching. As far as making additions, they did as every other team did and brought in some veterans to see if they had anything left. Of the mid tier and lower free agent pitch/minor league signings not many have a real stand out season. I think there were about a dozen that I could find or posted as a retort. None of them Twins The success rate was less than 10%. I can understand why they did not bring in much for the position players as so many are in the make stage.
  9. League average ERA is 4.5. A crafty veteran that can hit their spots should be able to be league average
  10. To get a 75 million dollar bump from gate there have to be a world series victory and a fairly big price increase. The shiny newness of Target Field is long gone. Winning baseball was bringing less than 30000 fans to the games. Winning baseball did not bring sellouts to KC no Cleveland. Winning baseball does not fill up Houston. There is no reason to think it would here. The cable market here is not a strong one. The last report I saw there was about 1.7 million television households and a medium rate of cable usage. Any growth in Twins revenue is going to have to divided out as costs to the cable and dish companies. That would be a challenge.
  11. Where is the revenue going to come from? The limiting factor to spending is revenue. With the 200 million more in revenue Boston can spend a lot more.
  12. 6-7 relievers are fungible, effective set up and medium leverage relievers not so much
  13. plenty of posts questioning the move, not a one explaining his velocity drop.
  14. did he learn how to catch and throw? FWIW 9 players on the AA team have an OPS greater than 850 Arcia also has a .392 babip
  15. If they don't mean something then why would anyone be complaining that they dfa'd someone with a high K rate in AA? Others not deserving? Rosario not deserving? What other LH? Wilk could go several innings, something Melotakis did not do. Turley started and had better numbers. Boshers has done all right. What other LH pitching?
  16. From Berardino's story: .... Melotakis saw his velocity sit in the 89-90 mph range at Triple-A I guess 89-90 for a lefthander is hard throwing. Yup, he was faster last fall. One would suspect there is an injury with him. If he is injured I doubt anyone would take him. Of course steam did predict he would get into a game for an inning, strike out one person, walk half a batter and allow a half of a run , more or less.
  17. Brooks Raley was a starter in the minors before the Twins claimed him. Nor did he have success at the mlb level, although he did make it there. MLB is not on the Melotakis resume.
  18. Neshek II. Pat has done ok. If Hacimer can get another tick up on the fastball he could be very good.
  19. It is the 4-5 bullpen arms that are the problem, not the 6-7. Duffy and Rogers got a little too much work as the 2-3. Breslow should be just LOGY but he is not used that way. Belisle has blown a few chances to keep a game close. Ideally your 6-7 not 4-5 guy.
  20. Fister did not pitch well enough in 3 minor legue games to cause a team to move on from under performing pitchers An average of 88 mph fastball without the control he used to have will nor give the team much of a chance. There is no upside to Fister. There isn't a future. Using Steamer as justification for a signing. If you do not like that I used the Angels pitchers to show you the value of steamer, Nik Turley by steamer predictions is a better pitcher than Fister
  21. First game of a double header and the prospect plays as DH means nothing. Somebody has to do it.Were they suposed to have Gamez dh on days he wasn't pitching.
  22. For those making a big deal of the 30% K rate tis year. A certain starter down there had a 53% K rate and is also a left hamded pitcher . It is a nice statistic but it does not mean major league success
  23. By steamer he would project to be the Angels third best starter and they left him in the minors. Predicted performance versus what he has become. Angels saw him n the minors and did not view him as an upgrade. It is not like Chavez is that great of cost. Perhaps the Angels are hopeful for improvement because steam said Chavez should be better than he is.
  24. I read on a couple of these kids. They talk of their commitment to go to a school. Going up to the max over without losing a draft pick really doesn't get them first round money. It is unlikely they will sign. The Twins did draft 3 top 200 talents in the later rounds. They do have the money to go after them.
  25. How long have you been reading Twins Daily? People complain. It does not take much. Anything less than perfect. It is what it is.
