  1. Luis Arreaz 21 A+, Charlie Barnes 22 A , Landon Leach, 18, Rk, Jose Miranda, 20 Rk, Rotevelt, 20 A Lachlan Wells 21 A+ 6 players who still are very young with a C+ Grade and have time to develop. Arias, 20, Balazovic 19, Moran 21, Valdez18 as C level prospects still have plenty of time to develop. That is 10 young players that have plenty of time to develop into better players. Already somebody thinks they have a decent shot at contributing at the major league level. Give them time. Yup wait until next year
  2. Lamet might be the type of pitcher the FO would look for. Control would appear to be the issue. If the management believes they can fix it as well as his pitching with men on base he could become the effective starter.
  3. It is not like they ever made the playoffs with them. Their time wasted is because they generally had poor post seasons or were injured and could not participate
  4. The questions for the off season should be these two when it comes to trades. One is which teams are going to go into full rebuild mode and what can they sell. Two, which traditional sellers, like Oakland and Miami, have something to sell.
  5. The draft class of 2017 was not eligible to be traded. They have had a half season in. Many of the better assets are in the low minors. Mid season trades generally involve AA players, not the lower minors Romero was likely their only pitcher of the high upside in anyone's book as Gonsalves doesn't have enough ticks on his fastball to be considered front of rotation. Pitching for pitching is the general flavor of trades. Power starters tend to also be preferred. That is what makes Kaprellian attractive over what the Twins could offer, statistics and injuries aside. The power starters in the Twins system seem to be all relievers. They aimed high and missed.
  6. One off season, one mid season to make trades. Instant gratification or bust
  7. You missed the point that talking about what Ryan did or did not do is moot. Last I checked Ryan was a scout for the Phillies.
  8. Sigh. Verlander was not going to accept a trade here. Period. Get over it. The midseason there was an exception of 3 pitchers of that caliber traded with multiple years of controlled cost left. You can't name 3 others in the last 10 years traded at the deadline that were similar. Shields was traded in the off season with 2 years of control left. Grienke was traded with 2 years of control left by KC. All he cost was 2 future all stars. The only other pitcher that was traded for a boatload of potential with multiple years of control left and a near top of rotation in the off season was Gonzales, and that also was a long time ago. Bad at the end of the contract, bad in the middle of the contract, sometimes bad at the start of the contract. Note that I did not say to not sign them, only the consequences. Fans do not tolerate the consequences. See the endless complaints on Mauer.
  9. I will give you the same specifics you give for your source that Verlander would have accepted a trade gere
  10. No better, but you still can't acknowledge the free agency is not a good answer. Complain when it works, blind eye when it doesn't for the other teams. Verlander I have posted about far too many times on this thread. Trading 3 prospects for short term rentals. In the position the Twins are in now it would not have helped. The key is to trade the high upside assets before it falls. The Twins next year will have plenty of better upside assets to deal. Whatever happened in the Ryan era is not relevant to today's team and management. Yup they missed out on Gray. Kaprellian had the upside of a top of rotation. Mateo the upside of an everyday player, Fowler a decent outfielder. Get back on the soapbox when the Twins have top of the rotation upside pitchers. Tyler Jay had it briefly.
  11. After the 2012 season here in fantasyland Pohlad and Ryan said enough is enough, opened up the wallet and got the highest paid hitter that off season, the second and third highest paid starting pitchers, as well as the highest paid reliever and the highest paid outfielder instead of the teams that did get them. Josh Hamilton, Anibal Sanchez, Edwin Jackson, Rafael Soriano and the then BY Upton. 21 years of contracts, 1 good season among them The year before you could have had the all star lineup of Pujols, Fielder, Reyes, CJ Wilson, Buehrle and Papelbon. Complain all you want about not signing the top free agents. There are a handful that do well, there are more that never play up to the big contract
  12. So rumor = fact and no rumor = no interest? The FO is pretty tight lipped. Look at the hirings and firings without notice nor rumors. Think what you want, but the inner workers are pretty cloaked. The only definitive is that they did not trade for Gray, Quintana or Verlander. Nothing more, nothing less
  13. As any trade would involve Verlanders approval , there is one thing that escapes the Trade For Verlander crowd. Verlander wanted to go to a WS contender, not pretender. The Dodgers were his first choice, the Cubs were his second. He had to be persuaded to go to Houston. Verlander by the end of his contract will have made over 220 million. I don't think more money would have swayed him. He's got Kate Upton, I don't think Minnesota has anything to beat that. You can repost, rethread all you want, there is nothing out there that says Verlander wanted to come here or would have come here, It would be classless if the Twins were given permission to speak to him to see if he would accept a trade to leak a polite no thanks. As a 10/5 player he has earned that right.
  14. Off the top of my head, Alex Meyer fits the bill of being the profile of Arrietta. I am sure there are many more talented but inconsistent pitchers out there. Kluber is another pitcher that did not have the coaching to figure it out until they were in their late 20s The odds of developing a talented player are not in the powerball range. Fans want the impossible. Wave the magic wand and you can pick out which of the up and down middle relievers are going to succeed this year, which starter will actually have a bounceback year, what year a pitcher is going to break down. Some fans even think that a 5/50 player with a stated preference will go to a team that is sub .500
  15. A quote from Perkins was something like a lot of players like defined roles so they can get mentally prepared. Just because someone has a defined role at a lower pecking order than closer does not mean that developing them further is not going on, or being attempted. See Dusenitz for the developed, Boshers for the attempted.
  16. Forgot to add. Years ago in the dark ages of baseball analytics employed by teams included using what were called advanced scouts, Those tireless souls got paid to watch baseball in a stadium on an expense account. They would chart the game and develop what was called a cook on hitters. What pitches they hit, what they couldn't. What Houston did in the ALCS was nothing new. The good curveball is a pitchers best friend. A less than good one is likely to be followed by a HR trot. Sorry someone was a stick in the mud on your reply. Good luck in your studies., except if you are going into law or politics.
  17. You need to read more paying attention to the details in what the pitchers say about their coaches. In regards to knowing everything by the time they got to the majors, Roger Craig teaching the split finger fastball to legions of players. Bobby Cueller the change up. Stats can tell you what to pitch. I wouldn't disagree with that. The mechanics for pitchers needs to be watched and understood. It is a big body going a few different directions at the same time. The mechanics need to be watched. I can't remember which pitcher it was for the Twins but IIRC a fan called in noting that his arm angle had dropped. After a correction the pitcher was pitching better.
  18. Detroit aimed high with Jordan Zimmerman and Anibal Sanchez. Fulmer as a prospect would be aiming lower. He ended up ROY. A missed head shot could get you killed.
  19. I am kind of stupid on this. How does statistical analysis work on teaching mechanics of pitching? What person is out there with practical recent experience would not also be fired. Could you also cite some reference as to Maddux, Bosio or the other guy's pitching philosophies that would lead someone to believe they are stuck in the 80's
  20. 2015 and 2016 results show he is not what he was. Money after an 88 million dollar contract might not be enough to motivate him.
  21. The 25 for 5 is a start, it is the other 125 for 5 that is the killer
  22. Morneau sitting in AAA would be the GM. Cuddyer was a problem in figuring out what position he could actually play on the field. His age 22 season was about the only time he sat much
  23. The big boys of relief were getting 15 million or more a year. Davis will get near hat
  24. A veteran manager for a veteran team, he is the opposite of Asmus. He will be 60 soon, he is in the twilight of a career. That matches well with the core of the team.
  25. No mention of a retractable dome as monsoon season begins in September and doesn't let up until the middle of June.
