  1. Pittsburgh picked up Burdi for international cap money. If it was money they were not going to spend they got Burdi for nothing. Burdi would cost them something . A spot on the DL means he gets paid the major league minimum. A half million for nothing might be more than the tight Pirates want to do if it looks like Burdi will be a long period for recovering rather than a short one. that may play into their decision process However, if they send him back, they pocket some money. They get a look at a prospect for free.
  2. Misiewwicz never got a mention from Sickels when grading prospects. He was in the Seattle system and did not grade into their top 50 or so prospects. An ERA of 4 will do that. Banulelos was at least rated their tenth best prospect. Shawn Armstrong has been used as a mop up pitcher and is 27. Hardly a prospect either. In either case the sum sent was not mentioned as the Mariners had around 3 million.
  3. Levi, you old walrus, long time no post. I can't even disagree with you for old times sake.
  4. Bundling Shields and Davis netted the Rays a better return. 3 players that turned out to be decent players. If you think you can get multiple way undervalued prospects out of teams you would trade them individually. Near mlb ready players your goal, bundle and save.
  5. Think about the post I was responding to. Stroman is a very good sinkerball pitcher in an evolving game that will crush a less than perfect sinker. His K percent is below league average. In this era that makes it rare to be the consistent elite pitcher. Stroman would be a welcome addition in place of Mejia or Gibson. He might not be the anchor for a staff
  6. Wasn't there a confirmed source that Dozier was going to the Dodgers for 3 prospects?
  7. The Twins still need someone who can beat the Yankees. You are providing the reason not to overpay.
  8. If there was evidence one way or the other on Morris pitching to the score, the computer literate file sorters would have produced that information. The IP/yr is a number that he can claim as worthy. The reputation of being the number one starter on the teams he was on for 16 years. The reputation of being the leader and competitor. It does not fit into a statistical category. The IP and mindset of Morris is about as far from the current mindset of the pitching of today I could see how Morris would resonate with the veteran players and executives on the committee. That would be enough to get him in.
  9. It looks like the Yankees have managed to dump Headley's contract on the Padres, giving them 13 million to play with in the starting pitching market.
  10. They would do that trade in a minute if only you included Buddy Boshers
  11. What was his ERA in games that the Twins were comfortably ahead in innings 7-9? What was his ERA in 1 run games innings 7=9. What you point out is meaningless without the differentiation. because not all innings 7-9 were games that it did not matter if you gave up a run.
  12. The prospect here is 19. What was Rooker doing at 19? No team thought at 18 Rooker would develop into anything. Pearson at the same as Rooker was after his freshman season is starting at a higher level of success. In 3 years Pearson could be Rooker. or yet another 21 year old looking for work with no skills
  13. Last month, Breek, who started his career with Almere '90, participated with the Netherlands Under-18 Team in the Under-18 World Championship in Canada. There, he struckout 18 hitters in 16 2/3 inning, while giving up only two earned runs. It was there, that Breek caught the attention of professional scouts. from another article https://nos.nl/artikel/2195276-honkbaltalent-breek-tekent-bij-major-league-club-twins.html You can guess why research for longer than 2 minutes is difficult
  14. https://vimeo.com/204427861
  15. Couldn't fins a pitcher that could throw for in kph what they weighed in pounds?
  16. Fiers will probably get a 2 year deal worth about 20 million. If he is your free agent starter added he would cost any shot at competing in the playoffs. If you signed him because you traded Gibson, he only costs a little money that could have been better spent elsewhere.
  17. The last season the Twins had too many good pitchers was when? Not when they traded Garza or Lohse.. Maybe when the franchise had the Big Train. I was not around for that.
  18. What seems to be in the reports is pitchers being successful for their level. What seems to be missing is the one that was hugely successful at the highest level. I am not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.
  19. The Koufax clause is not applicable to Johan as there are no sterling post seasons in Santana's resume. Koufax had an ERA of less than one in the post season. True that being in the playoffs is a team thing. Koufax started exactly one more game than Santana did in the post season. There is a night and day difference between the two. There is the 137 complete games and 42 shutouts in the regular season that Santana can't match. Koufax started 41 games in his last season. Different era or generation, but it points to the fact that they compiled the similarity in other stats in a far different situation.
  20. There is contending, then there is the realistic chance of doing well in the playoffs. 2-5 against Boston, 7-12 against Cleveland, 1-5 against Houston, 2-4 against the Yankees, and horrible against the Dodgers during the regular season. The arguments for they should have done more for contending seem nitpicky. What would have the Twins have to have added to be a contender past the wild card game? A front line starter, a middle of rotation starter, a couple of set up men. The wild card game comes down to is your starter on that day or not. The divisional rounds take more than that. Without trading the mlb position players they did not have anything to trade for the front line starter.
  21. The minor league teams win. I wonder if they are trying to get the teams more into development mode as it seems like a lot f players seem to have a bit of a time adjusting to major league play.
  22. Hector Rondon might be a candidate if you think Guardado can work with him. He was good until Chapman came along.
  23. Smyly did not have TJ until late June. He might not be ready until late in the season.
  24. No athlete in any sports negotiates a guaranteed contract downwards. Mauer is not going to sign an 11 million a year contract. That would acknowledge that his skills are gone.
