  1. Stealing this response, word-for-word, from Tom Froemming's response in the pitcher of the year thread: So, the GCL suppresses hitting. Makes some sense given where they play. An average OPS of .692 is well below the major league OPS average, so I guess it makes sense that even the good hitters would seem somewhat low.
  2. This. We are all fools of randomness right now. We overperformed last year, and that got us way too excited. Then we underperformed this year, and based on risen expectations, we got way too angsty. I have to believe that roughly 75% of this conversation wouldn't exist if we were just .500 team both years, like we probably should have been. So much drama...
  3. Twins Baseball: Because you have to care before you’re allowed to bitch about Joe Mauer.
  4. So the Twins "cut" Kohl Stewart last year and that's why he's pitching for the Twins this year? You're seriously going to tell me that you don't see any difference? This isn't even to mention the fact that last year, when we all thought we'd be contending, Rodriguez was about 47 on our list of 40 to protect, and only now people are freaking out, largely because we suck and, hey, who knew so many rookies would get a chance? Either way, the rhetoric doesn't match the facts.
  5. Dereck Rodriguez was never cut by the Twins. Why does this myth keep getting spread?
  6. Twins baseball: Because your company’s tickets are actually pretty good seats.
  7. Thank you to Erv for being a nice bright spot in a pretty dismal era for Twins pitching. Especially last year. Man, that was fun. Those first couple months of the season were just insane. I wish him the best in retirement or on his next team.
  8. First of all, batting average? That's all you got? And for 13 games with the Twins? Yep, 13. Second of all, his season batting average is .241, to go along with a whopping 70 OPS+, which follows up his incredibly impressive 82 from last year. Whee. And speaking of second base, the Twins have had the exact same second baseman for 5+ years. That's shuffling the deck like a blackjack dealer to you? There's just so much wrong with this post. Forsythe isn't coming back, notwithstanding his batting average for two weeks. This is not a good argument, just skewed extrapolation from miniscule sample size.
  9. I was thinking that too. Sounds like something Michael Lewis would make fun of in Moneyball. How's his girlfriend look? That's what I want to know.
  10. Courteously? Oh, that's my problem.
  11. Yep, satire alert. Seth, I know you have a lot to read and probably skim, so no worries. Thanks for all you do.
  12. We'll always have Paris. We'll always have Pierzynski.
  13. This is such a Twins thing. Is there any other team in the league that has such a ridiculous development policy? Carlos Correa had three birthdays in one season, if I recall correctly, and yet here are the Twins insisting that their players age one year at a time. Ridiculous.
  14. I recall his stint with the Twins beginning at least a month into the season, after the draft pick compensation time had passed on the old version of the QO. He basically did spring training with the big league club in May and June and unsurprisingly sucked. I bet he’d have had a good year if he been signed in March. I don’t really see a strong parallel with the two situations, although that doesn’t lessen my disappointment with Morrison.
  15. I hate this part. It's the ugly underside of the shiny new toys we get from drafts and trades. I wish him well, wherever he goes.
  16. I can think of a way to get rid of Logan Morrison today... But seriously, if anyone gives the Twins anything at all for him it’ll be a few thousand bucks or some 25 year old org filler in low A. It’s not worth the at bats to showcase a guy who’s had the kind of season Morrison has had. Best case scenario the return goes from nothing to slightly more nothing. If I ran the show, I’d DFA him yesterday and start seeing what we have in Austin.
  17. Really interesting analysis. I’ve never thought of it that way.
  18. Not a fan. What's the point of this?
  19. Looks like the second GCL game score is off in the writeup. I was curious to see whether they'd move Chase De Jong to relief, but it looks like he's scheduled to start. I don't suppose we've heard anything about their plans for him yet?
  20. I'm out. **** facebook, it's just a complete garbage platform, and if it's not going to be usable, I'm not going to fight it. See you in another game thread, I guess.
  21. Anybody know how to get rid of the floating thumbs ups on the facebook screen?
  22. Seriously. That's ridiculous. You know how you get rid of Joe Mauer? You don't resign him. Simple as that.
