  1. Do you have a substantive reply? If you disagree, I’d love to hear why. Seems like it might be an interesting discussion.
  2. He was Rule 5 eligible. I was against putting him on the 40 man because I didn’t see a way another team could keep him in the big leagues all year even if he was selected. I was, disappointingly, correct. And the way he’s going he won’t get rostered or selected next year either.
  3. I'm pretty sure that Romero has already used 2018 as an option year, meaning there's no downside, option-wise, to sending him up and down on the shuttle. So, rather than faking a DL stint, which is pretty shady, they can send him to whichever minors team is out of the running and have him rest a bit before coming back up. Maybe make two-inning start or two to stay sharp. Also, I'd be interested to see something like a piggyback situation if they want to limit innings or pitches but don't want to go to a six-man rotation. Could we bring up Slegers and have him pitch a "normal" game after Romero has gone through the lineup once? Mejia could work too, and he's already got a history of short outings in the majors, so a piggyback situation could be a win-win there. Given the bullpen struggles of late, it could be a win-win-win. In any case, based on what happened to Romero in the minors last year, I think fatigue is most likely coming, and it's possible that he hits a wall at some point like he did last year. If he does, you shut him down. Before that would happen, if at all possible, I think you give him minor league rest time or limit his use via piggybacking to avoid him hitting a wall at all, at least before rosters expand.
  4. Like a baseball Billy Madison. I await the hijinks. Seriously though, all the way to Single-A? I want to know why. Does it have to do with the trainers and medical facilities there? Is his leg not right, but not wrong enough to justify a DL stint?
  5. Seems like if you can get that out of round five you're doing better than most.
  6. Cole Sands is the next pick. Pitcher out of Florida State. Pick 154 and MLB has him ranked at 116. Seems promising.
  7. Really appreciate it. This is an exciting time, but the baseball draft is easily the most difficult to wrap your head around.
  8. DaShawn Keirsey in round 4. I hope there are some writeups because I know nothing about these guys.
  9. Kirilloff seems to deserve to be back in the rankings. Not sure what Gordon did or didn’t do to drop. He seems more or less ready and is doing well.
  10. He has literally never struck out while hitting lefty against a lefty pitcher. Yeah, I got nothing either.
  11. Every game is the same game... ...when you have no offense.
  12. I expressed skepticism in the past about Kirilloff, and I'll own up to it. He's making me look like an idiot. He needs to move up, and frankly, I hope he keeps making me look like an idiot in Ft. Myers.
  13. Probably had to do with the fact that he was only converted to pitching (by the Twins) after several years of him trying to be an offensive player. Because minor leaguers can leave the organization after six years, the Twins couldn't stop him when he left. Think of it as a Joe Nathan kind of situation. The Giants did all the work drafting him, playing him, and converting him to a pitcher. Then they got shockingly little value out of him because all that payoff went to the Twins. What can you do?
  14. Quick correction: they didn't give up on him; he was a minor league free agent and chose to leave. They could have protected him with a 40 man spot, but I doubt anyone was clamoring for him as a priority.
  15. gunnarthor posted this on Vasil in the more general thread: https://www.mlb.com/news/latest-2018-mlb-draft-news-from-callis-mayo/c-277888816 I like what I hear about him. Hopefully the control can improve.
  16. Dodged a bullet. You'd have been a Yankees fan.
  17. Interesting to see Dozier hitting oppo doubles. SSS coincidence, adjustment, some mix of both?
  18. Don't want to be happy at anyone's dream ending, but it was time.
  19. In a vacuum, calling an 18 year old up to the majors is NOT a win-now move. Guess we'll see what happens.
  20. Agreed on all counts. My skepticism of the guilty plea process comes from my actually being a lawyer, by the way, but your first paragraph makes perfect sense as applied to the instant case. I likely went too far beyond the particulars of Heimlich's case in expressing my disaffection with the criminal justice system and ended up obscuring the issue at hand. The far more important piece of this is in your second paragraph. Those who think that they're doing the world a service by refusing to believe that people can change, can be rehabilitated, can have radically different thought processes and behavior patterns as between their childhood and adulthood, etc., are incredibly off-base. Being righteously indignant does not make you correct.
  21. I’m not demanding anything. I’m pointing out difference between an argument from emotion and an argument from substance. Anyone should feel free to disagree with me, but I think my criticism is warranted.
  22. Chances are, one or two already have. Same with you.
  23. And bad arguments are still bad when you preface them with "as a rape victim..." It's still 100% emotion. Congratulations for believing the victim unconditionally, with no concession made for pesky truth or the possibility of reformation. So brave to refuse to think. If you put athletes on a pedestal and idolize them, then that's on you. If you can't separate your personal status from a justice that ought to be impartial, then that's also on you.
  24. Just makes me uncomfortable because it comes down to nothing but PR. It's substance-free argumentum ab genitalia. Bad arguments are still bad if you preface them with "as a parent..." I prefer not to be ruled by the lynch mob. Maybe that's just me.
