  1. Yes, it would be pointless to add an expiring contract. What about a contract that still had 3 or 4 big money years? For a SS? A SS who played at a GG level and hit not great, but OK? I cannot see the Twins doing such a thing, but they certainly have the payroll room. And with all the young players coming up, they are going to have payroll room for years unless they sign a big FA or two.
  2. I like everything you said, except I think that Deduno may have a fair chance to be really effective in a high enough percentage of his outings that you deal with the clunkers. Deduno has had pretty decent control in his more recent outings. Like the positive feedback we are getting about May. Alders is in the mix, too.
  3. Chris Parmelee: Last 7 days: .500/.500/.1.200 (1.700) Last 14 days: .350/.350/.750 (1.100) Last 28 days: .288/.354/.525 (.879) Something seems to be working. Cannot say exactly what it is, but the trends certainly isn't all bad. I also think that his play in RF has been a very pleasant surprise to most of us. This Parmelee story has a ways to go before it plays out.
  4. Wow, a 17 year old SS? Youngest player on the list. Hmmm...
  5. He certainly should. I had no problem voting for him. A career year at age 34? Yes, it sure looks like it's going that way. And I don't care that the mountain air is helping. Good for Michael!
  6. The future, indeed, may be closer than I had thought. Arcia is one we have been waiting for and he is making us smile. Almost unbelievable that he was in A+ ball just a year ago. (edit: clutterheart beat me to it) I am one who thinks Sano is going to take a little more time than that, but Buxton may not and Rosario may climb the ladder quickly. We have May turning it on, Meyer on the mend, Darnell Logan and others pitching well. We could have a pretty competitive team next year. And maybe, just maybe, that 2016 season we are looking forward to could come to us in 2015. I love baseball!
  7. Oswaldo Arcia: April - .216/.275/.405 (.680) May - .279/.343/.475 (.819) June - .289/.357/.553 (.910) Even an optimist such as I cannot believe that he will continue to improve at this rate, but I sure enjoy watching him. As Thegrin says he or she does, I pay close attention every time he comes to bat. Very fun!
  8. Beware troyhobbs... My comment was more polite than that and it was deleted.
  9. To get MLB experience. Maybe to get hammered a couple of times. Learn what works in the bigs and what he needs to work on. That would be a good thing. I'd rather he did that in a lost season than a year (2014) where the Twins maybe have a serious chance to break .500.
  10. Glen Perkins for Matthew Summers Of all these interesting ideas, this was the worst. It was your way-offiest. Fun stuff to think about.
  11. Given that I always keep in mind that a prospect is just a prospect and many have been moved too fast, I am usually OK with going slow. There is a point, however, where it seems ill-advised to keep them at a particular level. Had he played for the Twins, would Pujols have had to wait until he was 23 to win ROY? If Buxton struggles in A+, fine! Everything I read about this kid suggests he will bear down and make it work.
  12. It worked for the Tigers when they traded some kid named Smoltz for Doyle Alexander. Well, almost.
  13. Not enough people say this: Plouffe could be an IF/OF (corner) utility guy. We have gotten so used to poor hitting good fielding utility players that we think that's how it has to be. What if you had a passable-fielding strong hitting utility IF? They would also be useful off the bench as a PH.
  14. If we let Willingham go (or he gets injured) where is your RH power? Dozier? Sano will not break camp with the Twins next year and may not get to MLB next year. People seem to forget his BA was like .258 last year. He is going to need time at each level. Trading Plouffe at this point would be silly unless the Twins were blown away, and that is not going to happen.
  15. Almost no one is going to bend over backwards to get Willingham. That said, I appreciate the logic of a team that has no RH power hitters keeping Josh. I believe we can expect a bit of a rebound next year and we badly need power from the right side, even if Plouffe shows he is a real threat.
  16. No one wants to trade for Kershaw until he signs an extension. Then the Dodgers will not want to trade him. They need him to help them get back to being relevant. Strasburg (2.5 ERA, 1.06 WHIP) is an important component of a team that thinks they should be in the Playoffs THIS YEAR. I like trading wisely and big, but I don't see anything like this happening with these players. Fun stuff, but I want to see Buxton playing for us one day.
  17. I don't have a problem with Chuck. He was a very good player for the Twins. When he left we got a lot for him. Then he became a Yankee, so as far as I'm concerned he is dead.
  18. Wow, looking to get flamed? I have no problem with it. I believe that both will be up fairly soon. I suspect you about to hear from some who disagree. Peace to you, huhguy.
  19. I would send Walters down even though he's been decent. Ryan could pull a name out of a hat to see who Gibson replaces Methinks we are letting emotion overrule sense. There is a good deal of baseball still to be played this year. I believe we will see Gibson & Albers in 2013.
  20. celebratory Nickleback? Oddly enough, I enjoyed the rest of this, this, whatever you call it.
  21. When a pitcher tries to play through injury, he tends to change his mechanics to compensate for it. Such a change ruined Dizzy Dean's career I am a big Burton fan. I was also very upset when I saw Gardy bringing him into that game last night. What ever is wrong with the guy, help him get it fixed. In an ideal world that would not happen in the 8th inning of 1 run ballgames. Use Thielbar or send him away, but find someone and use them. In the meantime, get Burton healthy.
  22. Interesting article Brad. Good for you. Personally, I wouldn't cheer for the Yankees if they were playing Al Qaeda.
