  1. It has been a long time since the Twins have had middle infield depth. Relievers are also fine and probably enough starters will make it to be OK. (Though everyone wants more) 3B/1B types are a long way away, long enough that the new FO tried to sign Mike Napoli to fill for 2 years. (Per reports here and elsewhere). Outfield should be fine, but see little depth at this time, but have 4 years or more of control to current crop. This year will be interesting as the transition continues.
  2. Gonsalves looks high on your list and Thrope looks way low. Outside of that we are knitpicking
  3. I understand Cedar Rapids, but a part of me would like to see Ft. Myers and get a feel for what he brings, also to try and get him here in 2019 to replace Mauer.
  4. Competition is good. Do not know why all you people think Gibson is a lock. I feel Santana and Santiago are locks, rest are open. Expect Gibson to win a spot, but the rest depends on Hughes health and the progress of the young kids. Think Haley will make the team in the long role, unless it is felt necessary to start Hughers there. This does not look much better than last year, depressing.
  5. Reading between the lines, I can see what Falvey and Levine think of Vargas and Park. According to mlbtraderumors the Twins offered Napoli more money than he signed for with Texas. That is telling me they do not see a future here long term for either Park or Vargas. The fact that Twins are still being linked to other DH types is singing the same song. Unless something changes Vargas are Park are both considered short term here. They could both be gone if the Twins can find an decent DH to sign(unlikely at this point).
  6. If Murphy cannot succeed at the major league level this year, he has the risk of becoming org filler for the rest of his career. Would guess Murphy gets first shot and if he fails Garver is called up. Interested on how the Twins rotation shakes out. Lots of candidates and not a lot of MLB success between them. Maybe with the fastball control mantra, most of them will have an extra minor league season or time to hone this skill. Seems to be missing among the Twins starters called up the last few seasons.
  7. Without a significant upgrade in play, I would be shocked if Santana was not DFA'ed somewhere in spring training. And if he was claimed(oh well, bye Danny). Escobar will be the other player on the hot seat as Twins may prefer a glove first (Adrianza) utility player to Escobar(especially when you have a 13 man pitching staff). You will still have 2 bench bats(Grossman and you backup catcher for PH duty). Believe backup will by Murphy in this alignment, but not sure.
  8. Little worried about Seth's comment on Polanco. He can hit, so question is on defense. If he is not good at either SS or 2B, can he hit enough to hold the position. Twins seem to have a great number of middle infield prospects coming, though most are like 3 years away(except for Gordon). Are we looking at Polanco more as a placeholder after all this hype or is he a full time regular going forward?
  9. I would push Arraez to Chatanooga to start and see how he does. If he can hit there it might be possible to feel very comfortable trading either Dozier or Polanco for pitching depth. I can see Vielma coming up this year also after a Dozier trade. Spring training injuries do happen.
  10. The bottom 4 teams in the division could finish anywhere. Believe the WS will do a few more trades and be at the bottom for a couple of years, but the talent they have acquired will be a factor for years after that. Twins will just depend on how far the pitching carries them. Believe the bullpen will be much better, just do not see the starting rotation being good enough to propel them much higher than 80 wins and could be a lot less if a few things go wrong.
  11. I also agree on Melotakis, believe he will get a chance to go north, and if he does not expect he would be one of the early callups depending on how he does in Rochester. Way early for a lot of the young players to be given up on. Still think the Twins farm system is good, just a lot more of it in the lower minors than upper, except for pitching.
  12. Correction makes more sense, but makes you wonder somethings were some people get stuff. Also would wonder if a post like that would affect a writers contact with the team officals.
  13. At this time I would take Greene unless during the next 4 months a college pitcher develops to where they are considered a sure #2 with #1 upside. It is a crap shoot, but talent will win out most of the time. Other issue I see is the mental side, what is between the ears and how willing the prospect is to do the work and put in the time to become great. That is something only the scouts will know from talking to the prospect.
  14. My major point is if this was to pass, would anyone have taken this risk. I know you have to take risks, look how TR was widely panned for David Ortiz.
  15. It along with the Dozier fiasco, actually happen to agree with what happened, if it that was also to backfire, would you trust the new FO to do anything right. If this happens it would make every GM in the league feel like they would have to win deals with the Twins. That could almost stop any win-win deals from happening.
  16. My feeling is it will be very embarrassing to have Park have a decent to great season after this. It could rank(unlikely but possible with David Ortiz as the worst move ever made). We do not know the future, but how would it look to Pohlad if one of the first major moves the FO made was one that greatly backfired. I would not have taken that chance.
  17. mlbtraderumors is running a poll as to if someone should claim Park. My guess is that they will and Twins will be exposed as frauds. Poll is running over 2-1 that he should be claimed. This may be the start of the fire Falvey thread.
  18. I feel that Twins will give Goodrum a shot and base what they do with Santana on the outcome of that spring training battle.
  19. Pitching in multi innings low leverage situations. (Tonkin). We can have Haley do that.
  20. Why is Tonkin still on the roster???
  21. Flexibility seems to be the new buzzword for MLB teams. My guess is with both TB and KC just having signed 1B/DH types this was a calculated risk. Do not see him being claimed and the new FO probably had other options they thought were more likely to be claimed. This is not a AAAA type of money person who someone will take a flyer on to stash in AAA as depth. Do not expect either Tonkin or DSan to be on this club in April, but just think this was a calculated risk and should be treated as such.
  22. Bottom line is that only a few draft picks work out. Twins due to structure have to have more work out than the opposition. Since this is no longer possible, maybe it is time to change philosophy and sign some FA's. We are a midmarket team not a small market.
  23. Do not know if Hildenberger should start in Chatanooga, but might be the third or fourth option in Rochester, depending on how many upper level relief pitchers start in Rochester. Maybe Twins need to clear the traffic jam this year, and by the end of the year remove those relievers that are AAAA material. (Burdi, Reed, Jones, Light, Tonkin) etc. Depends on who starts where as to where Hildenberger starts. Hope we have a shuttle as many of these need to be seen in Minnesota so we will know who will be there for the next few years.
  24. Gibson has had at most one year with an ERA under 4. That is not major league stuff. His margin for error is razor thin. Maybe Allen can fix him, but have my doubts. Rest are either young or have several seasons of under 4 ERA. Sorry but that is my feeling. To call Gibson the 2 or 3 option on the staff is a serious error.
  25. At the current time, though I agree one or two players who are on the 25 man roster are not Twins yet. C - Castro 1B - Mauer 2B - Dozier SS - Polanco 3B - Sano LF - Rosario CF = Buxton RF - Kepler DH - Park Bench Grossman, Murphy, Escobar, Vargas SP - Santana SP - Santiago SP - Berrios SP - May SP - Hughes RP - Duffey RP - Kinzler RP - Rogers RP - Pressley RP - Haley RP - Chargois I expect the pitching staff to be a revolving door for most of the year, as pitchers are traded, cut, send down, etc. Hopefully by the end of the year, pitching staff will come to where it will be for a few years.
