  1. No way are we going to catch the Astro's or probably Colorado. The Cubs are playing better and may be able to pass us. Still anywhere in the top 4 should be good as far as getting more talent into this orgainization. That being said, pitching is the hardest talent to predict and the twins greatest need. They may have hit some players in this years draft (Berros among some). They still need to put some significant money into pitching this winter. Poland will have to spend money to make money or the Twins will be back to a small market team in a mid market area until lighting strikes again and a group of very good players come up at the same time.
  2. I agree. he needs to be here. Mauer has commented as a catcher, he has no idea where the ball is going, if this is the case, how can the hitters. Walks are not good, but he seems to get some ground balls for double plays. Let this play out, he is better at this point than most of the starters the Twins are throwing out there. You can't teach ball movement and late movement is what the hitters cannot handle.
  3. Rochester is important against the Twins going back to the PCL and the inflated stats from some of the ballparks. Remember the Twins affiliate could be in Las Vegas, Edmonton or several other places that are a long way from here. Callups from some of these places take 2 days to arrive. When you need help at a major league level, like now with two outfielders hurting, 2 days is a long time.
  4. I believe that Arcia will start in at Rochester if not in Minnesota, same for Hicks(one of the two, other in Rochester). Depends on if Span is traded in the off season. Buxton where he is now, until he proves he is ready for Beliot, Rosario will maybe be in New Britain. D Santana also new Britain only because of what is coming behind him. Twins need to know what will be available to help in 2014 and leaving some of these players to low, will make this more like 2015. Berrios and the other Beliot reliever from this years draft will both probably be in New Britain.
  5. I am more in favor of trading Span unless TR gets an offer he cannot refuse(a 2 pitcher major league ready and maybe other parts). Willingham is why the players around him are having better years, a big right handed bat between the two lefties. Hicks being a switch hitter, better right handed may help in the long run, but short term no.
  6. Manship, hope we do not need 2 long relievers, thought DeVires would also be OK with me. It should be Blackburn, but that might wait until next spring to DFA him, or possibily until Gibson is ready next year. At end of year remove Grey, Robertson, Manship, DeVeries(though he makes a good triple A starter), Need to do major work for 2 starters. Hendricks looks like Triple A starter to me (no out pitch)
  7. Twins have 6 players for 3 positions next year, TR needs to sort this out as there will not enough spring training AB's to make choices. Dozier is strugging, so give him a breather and see what Floriman can do. Doubt he will hit as well as Dozier can, but if he is a much better fielder, he has a chance. Nishi is gone, but will probably be given a look next spring, need to find out if Casilla should be kept. I believe the infield next year will be Dozier, Carroll, and either FLoiman or Escobar.
  8. Maybe this means that it is possible Span will still be traded this year. Hopes he hurries back from the minor injury (if it is minor, note how wrong the Twins medical staff has been this year)
  9. Hendricks could be one of the very good Triple A pitchers who cannot make it in the majors. I think the good clubs will eat him alive. I hope we do not see him in September and he is told he has to win a spot next spring. Do not think he can do it. Parmalee should be up here, but has no spot. It will be interesting how this is handled over the winter. My best line would be to extend Morneau and package Parmalee and Span for something really good (Seattle needs major hitting help and has pitching to spare)
  10. Nishi will probably still be here next year as will Blackburn. Have more hope Blackburn will be gone than Nishi. Blackie at this stage is a BP pitcher. Pavano will not be resigned, and Manship and Swarzak are spot start. long relief and the Twins have proven they like Swarzak, so goodbye Manship. All of the rest of the should be gone list will be gone expect maybe Guerra. Only Perdomo of the wait and see guys would I like to see given a chance. Given that I also hope Butera is gone, but he may last until Herrmann arrives, I see no reason to carry another light hitting catcher. Twins need to see in September if Arcia can hit major league pitching even as a platoon player ( do not mind if you subsitute Hicks here). If one or both look capable of starting next year in the major leagues. trading an outfielder this offseason will be much more desireable.
  11. Which type of pitcher? I do not see the Twins spending 15 -20 mil on a starting pitcher(not sure if any are worth it). 10 -12 mil a year are still gambles, but would be OK with that. Do not want to see recycled pitchers on the cheap(though Ben Sheets looks to be working out for Atlanta). Best guess would be Span to the Nats or Reds for some pitching prospects, or maybe to the Reds or Nats for a major league ready middle infieder and some pitching prospects, need to clear room for the next round of outfiilders.
  12. I would not include Morneau. Parmalee could be a bust, all of the rest are fine, though I expect Blackburn to be back because no one wants him. We need a missle infielder and 1 -2 starting pitchers, that could be doable in FA.
  13. 150 km/hr is 90 miles per hour. Needs to be a little faster like 155km/hr or 160km/hr. conversion is about .6
  14. Twins got a possible long range prospect, Valencia had worked his way out of town, bad attitude and lack of ability. Terry Ryan has a big job ahead of him and this is a start. Do not be fooled, Red Sox are in the same boat as us. Anything is better than nothing. Casilla is probably next unless they trade Jamie Carroll.
  15. I would be more willing to give up Benson than Arcia, But if we could get a front line pitching prospect and possibly some other B and C types, go for it. Oakland is proving you can win even in the American league with good to great pitching.
  16. With Casilla's defense and lack of offense, he is just what is does now for the Twins, a utility infielder. I agree with the person who commented that they will probably not offer him arbitration at the end of the year. It is time to cut ties with this type of player. We have players in Rochester (3 to be exact) who could replace his production next year.
  17. I believe Manship will take over Swarzak's spot in the short term. Duensing will be the 5th starter and the Rochester Shuttle will continue. Bullpen has not been overworked with Cleveland to this point, so Gardy will have mix and match till Wednesday.
  18. Looks like he might be a keeper. At least he does not pitch to contact
  19. Agreed and Turner was not a proven quanitity and had not done anything great at the major league level. Liriano is a two month rental. Escobar will give the Twins the ability to be a utlity infielder and not have to overpay Castilla for next year. I would rather have two options for that role rather than banking on one. Hernandez will help the Rochester ballclub in the short term. Maybe Bobby Cuellar will find a way to make him better. More interesting will be how Liriano and Blackburn do the rest of this year, and if the Twins should part ways with Rich Anderson and promote Bobby Cuellar.
  20. Dreamer. We are at least one SP (front of rotation) away, and 1 more bat somewhere in the lineup.
  21. We got 2 players for Liriano, which is 2 more than we would have had. This also will cover the Twins if either of the two following happens. 1. We can get a decent offer for Jamie Carroll. 2. Alex Castilla does not come back next year (about 50/50) in my book. It is possible that a team would want both Span and Carroll, (read Dodgers), so this might be the front end for more trades. Even if neither of the above happen, we are minus 2 mil in salery and have 2 possible major league players for a pitcher who was not going to be here next year.
  22. unless the twins can sign Liriano to a team friendly contract, I would take this deal. If he pitches bad on Sunday, his trade value goes to zero, along with your return. I would like to get more, but Terry Ryan cannot overplay this and wind up with zero.
  23. I don't think that it was expected that neither Gibson or Wimmers would not be in the rotation by 2013. At the current time Gibson may be by the end of next year, but do not expect Wimmers to be there until 2014 at the earliest. That means we still need a pitching upgrade as the starters the Twins currently have will not do well against the good hitting clubs. Liriano when on is the Twins best pitcher, off he is what he is last night. Need a fair return for him, but that will play out after Dempster is traded and possibly Garza. Expect Ryan will have to take a low A or B+ prospect at best and those would be in A ball. Willingham or Span will probably be traded if the offer is good. Pitching is still the primary need, but clubs are more reluctant than ever to give up veru good pitching prospects. Twins do not need a group of #3 starters in return.
  24. to compete in 2013 the Twins need at least 2 starting pitchers, a second baseman, one outfielder to produce from our minor leagues(assuming Span is traded). This assumes Linarno is traded or leaves after this year. 1 qualitity second baseman will not come cheap and two starting pitchers will cost between $25 and $30 million a year. Poland's will have to go the route of having to spend money to make money. Even doing this will not guarantee 90+ wins. If Terry Ryan sells this argument, he will be a mircle worker. Best case is that the trades net 4 class A higher end prospect pitchers, outwise why make the deals. This would give the Twins the depth to have a possible decent rotation by 2014 - 2015. I would support this line. More patching holes(recommended by some above is a losing proposition). Take shots at will.
  25. Yes, Assuming he will not sign a team friendly extension we need to get value before he leaves for nothing. Exception would be if the Twins plan on making the 12.5 million qualifing offer and the offers are not that good.
