  1. That is why the Twins need to make a deal this offseason with a pitching rich, hitting poor club. You can win with great pitching and so-so hitting. You cannot win with bad pitching or a horrible defense(which is why I expect Detroit to fail early if they even make the playoffs)
  2. That is why the Twins need to make a match deal with the pitching rich clubs
  3. You were doing well, but you just lost me with this right here. What I meant is if the Twins continue to lose for the next 2- 4 years could Mauer decide to force his way out of town and what a PR disaster that would be for the Twins. Plus we would not get anywhere near full value for him given his current salary. That could happen sooner if Mauer is not happy with the Twins direction and his clubhouse friends are all allowed to leave or shipped out. Sorry if I was not clear
  4. Deduno is wild enough, he should be able to hit a Texas main man without a issue unless it is a head shot. He may even do it not intentionally. That will put Texas on the defensive without the ability to reply as the first hit batter will probably force the umps to issue a warning and Gardy can argue pitcher wildness.
  5. One last note: The PR disaster is twofold: 1. As the Twins hopefully retool, fan support drops lowing the budget to add pieces. From 30+ a night to between 15 - 20, Now Mauer's salary becomes an albatross. 2. Mauer decides to make the Hall of Fame, he needs to win a title, so trys to force his way out when his value is on the decline. That is the PR disaster I meant. Do not run over the Mauer's friends or it may be worse than you think.
  6. Good reply. I would agree if Morneau was 34 - 35. He is 31- 32. There is a decent chance he could have 2 good years left. All the clubs I listed are budget watchers with the exception of the Dodgers. All these clubs also have excess starting pitching. Dodgers would not package any of there four top prospects for Dempster, but I would expect this package could pry one of them loose. If they wanted Morneau and would give up 2 of the four with Span included go for it. Tampa Bay and Seattle have not been afraid to part with prospects if they return cheap hole fillers. That is why I feel that Parmalee and Span could bring 1 close to major league 2 -3 starting pitcher and 1 or 2 single A prospects.
  7. hope/assume you meant 27-30m TOTAL not per year. If not.....yikes. Even Bill Smith would call that a bad deal!!! Agree about 8-10m is about right for Justin, just am not interested in keeping him even tho his upside for that contract could be great. Me bad, meant 3 years. I have more concerns about points 1 and 3 than Parmalee. Also at Morneau's price he does not have much trade value at this time. Trading has changed and small market teams will not give up good pitching prospects for older high priced players. Even the Dodgers were interested only if the Twins were doing a salary dump. So you have to trade pieces and prospects from positions of strength, right now for theTwins that is outfield and first base
  8. I agree with most of this. We still need a middle infielder and 2 Starting Pitchers. I would rather package Parmalee with Span to get back some pitching. Twins power arms are 3 - 5 years down the road and hitting with a couple of changes should be fixable to contend.
  9. I think they should extend him for 3 years between 27 - 30 mil a year. These are the reasons. 1. No one will give full value for him and he could walk after next year(if he has a good year and make more money, while the Twins would have a PR disaster. 2. No garentee Parmalee will work out leaving a big hole in the Twins lineup. 3. Could cause PR issues with Mauer if he leaves and Twins continue to lose( a possiblity 4. A Parmalee and Span package to the Mariners, Tampa Bay or LA Dodgers(possiibly Washington) could possibly bring back pitching help Twins need. Except for the Dodgers the other clubs watch their budget. 5. Money should not be an issue according to TR this offseason. Twins need to bring in a pitcher so they have money to spend on a middle infielder (flyer on Stephen Drew anyone)
  10. For all the comments on Marcum - he was a sucess in Toronto! Like the idea. Morneau's best fit is with the Dodgers. Tampa Bay is too much a small market team for that move, Texas or Seattle would be the other spots. Span's landing points could be Cinn, LA Dodgers, Tampa Bay, Arizona or Washington. All these teams have excess pitching(though getting them to give it up may be difficult. Not totally sold on Parmalee, much more in line with trading an outfielder. Would hate to give up Willingham, but for a Major League ready starter and a decent prospect would live with it.
  11. I also believe Span will be dealt if TR can get reasonable pitciing in return. Stiiill nees a middle infieder as I agree Casilla will be a non-tender (Stephen Drew anyone). I still think they need 2 FA pitchers as do not see enough talent to expect internal options to prevail. Gibson will start in AAA with the expectation of being the first calllup. Diamond is the only lock as I expect Deduno to also make the rotation. The door on Henricks is quickly closing, still looks like a good AAA pitcher. Slama will not be resigned. I expect right field to be a platoon between Arcia and Mastroianni. HIcks would need a super spring training to make it. Burnett may not be back(hoping). Outside of that bullpen will be about the same with maybe an FA or 2.(cheap) Would trade either Morneau or Willingham if it brought #2 type pitching prospects (#1 prefered, just do not think it will happen)
  12. I believe if the Twins do not promote him after this year, we will lose him to another major league club. I would rather have him here and reassign Varna.
  13. Having power relief arms is never a bad thing. It will allow us to trade some relief assets after 2013 and fill holes we need. This draft whether is works out or not was a step in the right direction. Power relief arms can move up the system very quickly if they have command of two pitches, one being a 94+ MPH fastball. Other note, I see Berros is being converted to a starter with the belief he can add the third pitch. That would be a help if he can be here by 2015.
  14. Thanks and keep posting these meetings, would love to make it, but will be practicing my major hobby this Thursday night.
  15. There are a few landing spots for Morneau in the off season. LA is lacking a first baseman and so is Seattle, Oakland could be another spot for him. Between those 3 teams one of them should make an offer, though the Dodgers are quoted as having 4 untoachable pitchers. I would think one of them would offer a starter that would work. To the dreamers that think trading him at the deadline will work, most deadline clubs will look for players being salary dumped first, this is what the Dodgers asked in July. At that time most of the salary constrained clubs will not give a decent prospect without the Twins picking up most of the salary. Offseason, most clubs will set their budget based on what they know. That will be the time to trade Morneau. I might try to see if Morneau would take a two year extension in the 9 - 10 million range and only trade him if he will not. Parmalee could bring a return if packaged with Span to upgrade a small market team(read Seattle or Oakland).
  16. This list shows how bad the Twins starting pitching is. TR has a lot of work to do this offseason. Do not think any of the AAA or AA types will help at this time.
  17. I was hoping the Twins would leave Hendriks in Rochester until that season ended. If DeVires survies tonight they could start Swarzak tomorrow. Hendriks needs to get the message that this may be his last chance. Maybe Rochester now has too many starting pitchers. That is the only way this makes sense
  18. There are thousands of very good Triple A pitchers over the years that do not have what it take for the majors. Jeff Manship I feel falls into this group. He does not have the stuff to put good hitters away. He will do fine against light hitting lineups or possible the National League(read Marquis). The very good hitting clubs in the American league foul off the pitchers pitches and hit the mistakes. The lower ranking clubs with good pitching all have pitchers with stuff. Twins just have to get there and not be sentamental about it
  19. I am hoping Nishi gets sold back to Japan, that could happen. Blackie will probably be in Rochester next year and I hope he is not called up again unless he is totalty burning up the league. Interesting question if this happens is should Bobby Cuellar be the Twins pitching coach as he seems to get more out of talent than Anderson. Blackburn will not walk away from 5.5 million, so any hopes of seeing him elsewhere next year should be forgotten.
  20. I saw in other posts in this area, his pitch speed is down 2 - 3 MPH. That would indicate some arm issues. Sorry to see if he is done
  21. TR was on ESPN in the 6:00 PM hour. This was all discussed, but he did not disclose if someone was coming up. He commented that he wanted the spots if he needed them, and would not deny that more moves are coming. Pitching was a concern, but TR did not feel that hitting was all that solid either.
  22. Still need to spend money in the FA market and only Tampa Bay seems to have figured out the sign the cheapest best players out there (TR did a good job, look at where the Twins would have been without Willingham or Burton). Kansas City and possiibly Cleveland over the last few years are the examples you want to avoid. Odds are not in favor of the clubs trying to do this with farm talent alone. Also trade market has changed, most clubs will not give upper level pitching prospects for anything, instead looking for the weaker teams to do salary dumps of good players for a cheap price.
  23. Diamond will still make a good #3 starter. Deduno may be able to be a #4 or a #5. That still leaves 3 spots to fill.
  24. Blackburn will never be back, time to cut the losses and DFA him. Orgainization needs some credability, 5.5 mil for next year is already a sunk cost, maybe you can save .5 mil as someone signs him.
  25. MVP - Caberra Cy Young - Price Rookie - Trout (no brainer) Manager - Showalter
