I always thought one of Gardy's greatest assets was his ability to maintain an even keel over the long season. But the last few years the keel just listed, Part of the biggest reason for okaying rookies is to add excitement,
How much would you be willing to pay for a post-season on-line package? Just curious, I've watched most of the AL playoffs and some if the NL ,,,,via Dish. I'm a dinosaur.
Then call it the little engine that could -- because that's how I thought of it. I remember watching the Tigers of about 2003 (can't remember the exact year) and thinking that the Twins could never be that fundamentally unsound but there have been plenty of embarrassing moments over the last few years, The Twins have truly lost their way. Thanks for the great summary, glunn.
This is basically how I felt the Twins would come to the Sabermetrics altar. Ryan has faith in Goin because Jack started as TR's admin asst but Goin still has to be cautious about what he can push on the field staff. It will be interesting to see how this develops with a new manager.
David Dorsey @DavidADorsey · 28m28 minutes ago Twins fans take note: GM Terry Ryan won't pick a new manager this week. He said he'll wait at least two weeks to decide. "It's a process."
It's sexism. Worst of all, it just adds more clutter to already-cluttered broadcasts. Streamline everything. Cut down on the talking heads and extraneous personalities, Buy a muzzle for Dick Bremer that only allows so many words per game. Use a mild shock collar on Bert when he tells the same story or uses the same phrase too often. Eliminate some of the "folksy visits." Open up the mics and let us experience the sounds of the game.
Looks like this may take awhile -- especially if they interview candidates who are currently busy with the playoffs. I favor a broad search and prefer someone not currently associated with the Twins. I'm happy to wait on who it is until we see all the candidates. And I think S D Buhr had a good blog entry the other day when he commented on the Twins job being one of the best out there thus far.
A source within the Minnesota Twins' organization confirms the club will interview Red Wings manager Gene Glynn in the upcoming weeks for its managerial vacancy. http://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/extra-bases/2014/10/03/red-wings-gene-glynn-will-interview-for-twins-managerial-job/16642087/ I still prefer an "outsider" but the more interviews the better -- a broad search sounds good, Sorry I missed seeing Seth's thread.
For me the problem with 52% is that it basically acts as a cap. I have no problems with being 10% or so below that if we are playing prospects and developing talent. But I also want them to be willing to go 10% or so above that to acquire the final missing piece for a good team (if we ever get back there) but thus far I have never seen anything from the Twins saying that they are willing to carry "savings" forward and they have not done anything that would make me confident that they would ever go that far "above and beyond".
2015 Comeback player of the year --Joe Mauer. I'm not a big Mauer fan but this year had to be tough on his pride. I look for him to work hard this off-season and have a good season in 2015. I don't think the new manager will have to get tough on him because he will be tough on himself.
I have always thought that Hardy's greatest strength was also his greatest weskness--that was his unbounding loyalty. It led to the continued presence of Anderson and sometimes to sticking with players that were clearly hurting Morneau when he had the back problem). But I also think that sense of loyalty was what got the team to stick together in some of those magical seasons. Nevertheless it was time tor a change.
I just don't feel like I know anything about Nolasco -- no way to relate to him. Just a player the Twins made a centerpiece last off-season who didn't. bring much to the field and who doesn't seem to bring much off the field.
I'm not posting much more tonight because I am typing one handed and I am getting tired. I can use my left but it is weak. Exercises for PT and one nerve not totally awake --- time and exercise needed. I'll watch a littlr longer but probably won't post,
Thanks for your well wishes. No cast -- 3 plates and screws, Shoes went one way. I went another on carpet over concrete, Saved my wrist but landed with all my weight and force on my upper arm.
Just to update on why I haven't been posting: just released from the hospital with a badly fractured left humerus, Very little pain and I am very dominantly right handed but everything is just a lot harder. I have watched some of the games -- was fun to see the Twins outdo Detroit,
The exchange was funny and the survey question was stupid (and living in Iowa, I have been exposed to lots of stupid survey questions by political groups this year when I bother to listen). But St. Peter was right in his latest response: Dave St. Peter @TwinsPrez · 3h @KeithOlbermann Honored. By the way, love the show. Don't make a mountain out of a molehill -- a little humor or self-deprecation goes a long way.
Instead of funny, he did this (as you know): http://blogs.twincities.com/twins/2014/09/04/twins-president-responds-keith-olbermann-bit-tone-deaf-get/ For someone whose background is in marketing, he seems to have lost it.
