  1. Suzuki looks like he can hardly move tonight.
  2. I'm immune from them anyway. Lived most of my life in Iowa .... never saw a true funnel cloud. I've seen wedge clouds but never saw one drop.
  3. So weird. There was a tornado on the ground about an hour away -- and we're not even in any kind of watch. Very humid thought but not all that hot.
  4. Except that it is 2-2 so unless Tommy is going to bat, he's gonna need help!
  5. A DP by the Twins against KC in the first? YEA!
  6. A run in the first inning for KC against the Twins? Boo.
  7. A run in the 1st inning in KC? Wow.
  8. Bingo and that's what I meant when I said keep it at 6 years or less. The Twins are in the enviable position of having flexibility. And, since I, for one, take them at their word that they don't carry monies forward, they should spend some of it now.
  9. Nice story. I don't remember you posting this one before but you have posted a similar story about the language classes (remember the teacher because of the host family tie.) Also saw a story about the classes in Ft. Myers at the new academy. Does this mean that they are continuing them up the line in AA and AAA as well?
  10. I have absolutely no problem with the Twins going after an elite pitcher or for that matter, adding a stellar outfielder (preferably Spanish speaking). I just think we have to be aware that while Target Field boosted the Twins' revenue, they still have the problem of the mediocre local TV revenues. And, as someone pointed out above, Target Field revenues are likely to keep slipping. Best way to increase revenue at TF? Win. Terry Ryan does have plenty to spend on short-to-mid-term contracts (less than 6 years). Will he have the will to do so? Questionable. But there is an argument for signing an elite pitcher now and that is that the revenues are available now. If we wait another 2 or 3 years, management may be all tied up in trying to buy out or extend some of the up and comers.
  11. I wouldn't be upset if they are allowed to sign Nix .... as long as they have to pay the penalties for overspending and forfeit a pick (I think).
  12. Later stories make it seem like Selig mis-spoke (or misunderstood). Possibly working something out on Nix (which makes sense because the grievance would extend the timeline) but nothing in the works on Aiken. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/24682993/astros-working-on-a-resolution-with-nix-not-aiken-it-turns-out
  13. How do you define low revenue? I believe that the Twins did get revenue sharing this year. While that doesn't make them "low revenue", it is a concern. Major problem is the TV deal ... it just doesn't seem commensurate with what other teams are getting. I don't think the Twins are low revenue ..... but I also don't think it is as "rosy" as many of us thought 4 years ago.
  14. Still first time through the order, though. I seem to have memories of the 5th and 6th inning -- but then that's what I think about every Twins pitcher.
  15. Did you see the twitter feed from the woman eating all the fair food on a stick? 100 items I think. Salad on a stick is just a little too odd for me.
  16. You'd be better off just buying it. Stuff at our benefit auctions always goes above market price.
  17. They have fun things to auction. We're doing a benefit auction for our town swimming pool in a couple of weeks. Somehow loads of gravel or bags of seed corn don't seem nearly as exciting as lunch with Sir Rodney and Tony O!!
  18. I wish it would rain here. Still in the low 70's but all of a sudden about 5:30, it just got oppressive. Humidity must be about as high as can get without actually raining. Ick.
  19. And, except for Chief, we still aren't talking about the elephant in the room .... Does the management staff stay intact? Especially on field? To me, a new field manager and (some of his) lieutenants are a big need. And as of a month ago, there seemed to be a fair amount of agreement on that in certain parts of Twins Territory. Have we just resigned ourselves to at least one more year of Ronnie & crew?
  20. Famous last words. I know we expect to see Buxton, Sano and Meyer ..... but I'm not holding my breath. There's hope. But there is also the possibility of a lot of struggle.
  21. In the somewhat bizarre world of the Twins of recent years, I find this article both encouraging and depressing. Encouraging because we are seeing some of the prospects mature and it will be interesting to see how they play together. Depressing because this really isn't a good team and basically seeing a clone next year makes me want to kick something. It may turn out that the young players mature and next year is easier to watch. Or it may turn out that there is a lot of regression and next year is as depressing as the last few years. Only time will tell. (But I still think I'd like to see some changes -- one that I mentioned elsewhere is a Spanish-speaking veteran to help mentor the younger players.)
  22. No good return on investment of any player from anywhere is a sure thing. The Twins need to evaluate Cuban players as they would any others before making an investment. All that I ask as a fan is that it look like they are giving it a fair shot -- and while the evidence may be incomplete, they look reluctant to enter the Cuban arena.
  23. I do see a clubhouse group (if you can judge from the Twitter photos) developing among Mauer, Dozier, Plouffe, Perkins, Duensing and one other (couldn't identify from the photos). But it was all white, married guys -- I'm sure that they and their wives share common interests. The kind of leadership that Willingham provided to Plouffe and Dozier is what i was hoping that Morales could provide to the young Spanish-speaking players and it sounds like he did that but it was so fleeting. That might be a darn good thing to look for in a left fielder (or other position of need).
