  1. Another perspective: http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/just-a-bit-outside/baseball-joe/blog/overpaying-to-keep-young-talent-111114 Grab a free agent early to avoid trading young players already in the system.
  2. Maybe it isn't all statistics. Maybe they like those intangibles (magic?) he brings to the clubhouse. Maybe they like his versatility. Maybe they think he and Wright will make a good leadership team. Clubs have all kinds of reasons for doing what they do, If it all came down to numbers and probabilities, we could just computerize it but there is still room for "art" in the GM's office,
  3. Some have gone and some remain......
  4. With childhood friend David Wright,
  5. Story: http://espn.go.com/newyork/mlb/story/_/id/11854223/new-yok-mets-sign-michael-cuddyer-two-year-deal
  6. Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS · 4m4 minutes ago Cuddyer gor $21M for 2 years from #mets
  7. You do know how to open a can of worms BTW, here's a link to the things being tested in the AFL -- doesn't have to be a clock: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/big-league-stew/mlb-will-test-six-initiatives-to-speed-up-games-during-arizona-fall-league-000916732.html
  8. Concern is also over increasing length. See chart: http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/09/mlb-games-length-three-hours-pace-of-play
  9. Part of the problem is that its not 3 hours of excitement. It's bursts of excitement interspersed with a lot of fidgeting, stalling and delays, I love the ebb and flow of baseball games -- I just want some of them to flow more smoothly.
  10. Heard some good things about some of the measures being used in the AFL. There's room for experimentation and enforcing existing rules. I would welcome shorter games. I do not have ADHD and I find your reference somwhat uncalled for. I just want nice, crisp games.
  11. He's tweeted several times about wanting to go to Japan and indicated that if not selected they'd go on a mission trip. More newsworthy than a lot of what players tweet. Edit: There are probably more tweets on this from Berardino than Dozier. Twins need to start naming coaches soon so there is some real news.
  12. If TR is thinking of being more aggressive, I wouldn't advertise it. You only get the leverage of that kind of surprise once. I'd think long and hard and then go in with a "shocking" (only b/c it is TR) offer.
  13. I've recent;y discovered that people have vastly differing tolerance for pain. I shattered my upper arm, had 3 plates and a pin put in and literally felt no pain w/in 3 days of the surgery (i made them take me off morphine and didn't even need tyleno)l. And except for some acid reflux, no pain while hospitalized for 2 weeks. I have never been stoic so this was a revelation -- the doctors (and especially the nurses) were flabbergasted. No one can judge pain levels except the person involved -- they need to be honest so the trainers can judge what can be "played through".
  14. The secret is being frugal not cheap. Some store brands are great (Hughes); others just waste your money and more (Kubel, Bartlett, Marquis, etc.) Always pays to be a smart shopper.
  15. Some interesting insight from Carl Crawford (via Berardino): http://blogs.twincities.com/twins/2014/11/07/twinsights-carl-crawford-miguel-sano-expect-2015/
  16. Wish Dozier had gotten the chance because he really wanted to go but I guess God wants him and his wife to build water systems in Costa Rico instead. If the were adding a last minute Twin, Nunez makes sense as a utility player. Congrats to him.
  17. Chris Parmelee is the carrier?
  18. I don't necessarily blame the team for players who play hurt. If I were in Cola's situation, I would feel like I was fighting for my career with every at-bat. If I say I'm hurt, it gives the team a reason to look elsewhere. THIS. It has to be easier to beg out when your job is secure rather than when you are the 24th or 25th man. I thought both stories were exaggerations and I suspect similar circumstances with most teams.
  19. I believe the story and I also believe the payroll won't go above $100m, if that, and will probably be about 90. The reason TR is in the GM's chair is because it would take the equivalent of a stick of dynamite to get him to push the limits,
  20. Thank You for being so detailed. Sounds like he was reasonably candid. Did you get a sense of confidence dealing with the fans/media?
  21. Not a surprise and well-deserved. Intrigued about other staffing still to be announced.
  22. Both columns were ridiculous, There was some truth in Souhan's and some in Calceterra's but not very good analysis in either.
  23. I was just reading this one: http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/mlb/article3578762.html
  24. I think he may have meant it from a "good soldier" standpoint than a coaching not needed standpoint. A few years ago, Gardy talked about how Morneau and Mauer would "police" themselves and fine themselves for breaking training, dogging it in practice, etc.
  25. Berardino's take: http://blogs.twincities.com/twins/2014/11/05/twinsights-twins-hire-next-pitching-coach/
