Morrie Silver @MorrieSilver8 · 17m 17 minutes ago Video of Oswaldo Arcia's go-ahead, 2-run HR...http://instagram.com/p/yxob49Nvu9/ Helped Venezuela to a 4-2 win.
  2. That was his cousin, Jonathan, pride of Battle Creek, Michigan, Bill was a little before my baseball memory: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/tuttlbi01.shtml
  3. Okay so this is a little off-topic but Morosi reminds us that fun is often noisy: http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/major-league-baseball-can-learn-from-caribbean-series-in-puerto-rico-020615 Here's hoping that some of our young Latin players inspire this kind of enthusiasm in the northland. Kind of think Vargas could do it all himself,
  4. 1 EMT per player!
  5. Not really on point but totally cool with a John Gordon connection. Specially for ChiTown: http://www.news-press.com/story/entertainment/2015/02/05/symphony-musician-hit-baseball-bat-violin/22944833/
  6. I didn't mean to say that you missed anything. I just don't think any reference to that time frame is complete without a mention of our good friend Nishi. He was part of the puzzle and while Smith was ultimately responsible for his signing, I'm still puzzed by how they whiffed so badly on him.
  7. Ah, how quickly we forget. The Twins didn't trade Hardy until after they won the bid on Nishioka. Lexi played the position by default. Not that Nishi worked out either.
  8. New Manager. New Pitching Coach. Can we at least give them a chance to evaluate before they negotiate with the FO over who will be the 5th starter??
  9. There were also stories that he was pressing in the 1st half trying to make the ASG at TF, I doubt if it was a big factor but just adds to the accumulation of what went wrong in the 1st half,
  10. He's supposed to be with the Jaya http://www.rotoworld.com/player/mlb/6596/liam-hendriks so maybe Halsey had a senior moment (or matched up an old uni number) or maybe there is something else going on. Lots of guys to try to recognize. CBS also has him with the Blue Jays. I can't find anything about them trading him or cutting him but who knowa.
  11. Fantastic, Halsey. We in the frozen north need a taste of spring, Thanks. Maybe you can update by editing so people can still comment without your observations getting lost?
  12. Thought someone was going to start a thread about arrivals at ST (Halsey?) but since there doesn't seem to be one, I'll post this here. Phil Hughes is apparently on the ground in Florida. Phil Hughes ‏@PJHughes45 · 50m50 minutes ago Ground Force One. Wasn't aware Potus cruised in an unescorted 90's bus. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B88oim_IMAAo-JQ.jpg:large
  13. http://www.foxsports.com/north/story/minnesota-twins-trevor-may-taking-new-mechanics-mentality-to-spring-training-020215 Tyler Mason of FSN is doing a nice series on various Twins players, Brock posted one on Kohl Stewart in the minor league thread. I found this quote interesting: May also used a notebook during his time in the majors to track things he wanted to work on in the offseason. Taking notes wasn't new for May, who often kept a log of his daily checklist even when he was pitching in the minors. This year's edition, though, had three pages of notes of things to focus on leading up to spring training. "Taking that in the offseason, just kind of improving how I keep my legs under me over an entire season, adding a ton of flexibility so I can repeat my delivery even more than I did last year, just kind of building on things I did last offseason and then just taking it up a notch," May said. "Mentally, just simplifying that focus what I need to do each game, being clear what I want to do and then doing everything I could to do it." I just hope he has found a way to integrate it all so he doesn't become the tinkerer, version 2.
  14. Makes my arm hurt just thinking about the pressure these guys put on theirs. Good luck to Mr. Stewart. May he make progress and stay healthy.
  15. It usually clears the air. In my world the fights are usually verbal but then I'm an almost 60 yo woman. As long as it isn't repeated brawling I'd expect some scuffling among teammates just like I've seen it among groups of brothers and sometimes even sisters.
  16. Mike Trout and Torii Hunter: Trout and Hunter, an Angel from 2008-12 and Trout's biggest mentor as he established himself in the big leagues, still talk about three times a week. http://m.angels.mlb.com/news/article/72548662/former-angel-torii-hunter-still-mentoring-mike-trout http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2013/01/31/torii-hunter-mike-trout-debbie-trout-angels-tigers/1880961/ Denard Span and Toriii Hunter: http://www.twincities.com/ci_8834428?source=rss Angels Leadership: How important is leadership, particularly in a professional sport and on a team loaded with established, veteran players? The Angels may find out this season, their first in a long time without one of Major League Baseball's most esteemed and engaging players. "My reign is over," new Tigers right fielder Torii Hunter said -- and now, it's time for someone new to emerge in the Angels' clubhouse. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/43157330/angels-look-to-replace-departed-right-fielder-torii-hunters-leadership-by-committee Does he just have everyone but you fooled??? He was in this organization for 15 years. Somehow I think that the Twins have a better grasp on his character than are revealed by your references.
  17. I've never understood why they didn't do more to fix the bullpen the last few years (or why they did what they did). Now I just have a sense that their time has come -- and gone. They may still squeak out the division title but there is no sense of inevitability or dominance.
  18. Ond can only hope.
  19. ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a 3-year-old boy got ahold of a handgun from his mother's purse and fired just one shot that wounded both his parents. Albuquerque police say the toddler apparently reached for an iPod but found the loaded weapon. The bullet first struck his father in the buttock and then hit the shoulder of his mother, who is eight months pregnant. His 2-year-old sister was present but unhurt. My goodness, I want to give these women some common sense.
  20. I think it was still in California but he was working with Carew.
  21. Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi · 7m7 minutes ago From STATS LLC: 15,007 defensive shifts in 2014, up from 7,641 previous year. And the BABIP went UP, from .297 to .299. UP!
  22. And a few before then: http://www.news-press.com/story/sports/mlb/2015/01/28/early-birds-arrive-minnesota-twins/22472121/
  23. This is what seemed so weird to me. Who is #7 and where is he? And once again, since I'm a curmudgeon, I'll remind everyone that while the prospect lists are fun, they are meaningless unless you're willing to trade them. The only thing that matters is whst we see in MLB ball.
  24. I think the moderators aren't always told what the owners have agreed to. The disclaimer in Ashbury's post looks pretty standard to me and was probably developed when someone was recruitng for a ticket group or something. I'm sure one of the owners will straighten it out. Best of luck recruiting a team. Looks like fun.
