  1. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal · 3m3 minutes ago Sources: #RedSox in agreement with free-agent reliever Alexi Ogando on a one-year, major-league contract, pending a physical. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal · 2m2 minutes ago #Rangers non-tendered Ogando due to health concerns. Shoulder, biceps issues in ’13, just 27 appearances in ’14 due to elbow inflammation.
  2. For Old Times Sake: Darren Wolfson ‏@DarrenWolfson · 21m21 minutes ago Scott Baker to #Yankees on a MiLB deal, per source. Invite to spring training.
  3. I'm not a big Jon Heyman fan but he seems to think that the Sox did almost everything right. We'll know in September whether it paid off. Winners 1. White Sox. Rarely has a team so successfully and systematically answered so many of its major questions. They needed a righty starter. Check. They needed a closer. Check. They needed a No. 2 hitter, a cleanup hitter and lefty set-up man. Check, check and check. With Jeff Samardzija, David Robertson, Melky Cabrera, Adam LaRoche and Zach Duke they scored a grand slam plus. They should compete in the improving, difficult AL Central, thanks to a reasonable outlay of slightly less than what the Cubs spent on Jon Lester. Only tiny quibble: $15 million and three years seem like a lot for Duke. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/25003344/mlb-winter-winners-and-losers-all-is-well-in-chicago
  4. I don't know why but it seems like the Twins are always the last to start ST. Guess Molitor was right when he said he'd follow the pattern of previous years -- although I doubt he picks the dates.
  5. John, this is you writing at your best. I really enjoyed this. Looking forward to the rest of the series,
  6. Agreed. To some extent, only time and consistent play at the ML level will help. But I have to wonder if this might be where Hunter can be of help to all of the young outfielders. He'll be out in the same sun and wind and should be able to help them make in-game adjustments.
  7. That would be great. And if anyone can post an easy step by step on posting photos, I'd appreciate it. I can post them but I find my method cumbersome.
  8. I think the list gets released tomorrow, Thanks for the preview, Jose O. Berrios ‏@JOlaMaquina · 5h5 hours ago I’m going to be tweeting during @MLBNetwork's Top 50 Prospects show for @MLB/@MLBPipeline, Friday at 9 pm ET. Join me by using #mlbpipeline.
  9. But he was reportedly a mentor to Trout as well. I wasn't in favor of the Hunter signing but I do think the Twins brass and staff were in a good position to make a determination on that question.
  10. I have mixed feelings as well. They need to enforce the rules currently in place before making any drastic changes and hopefully they will start doing that. But I don't have a lot of faith in the umps ability to alter ingrained behavior. So alternatives like this one that would force a change intrigue me, And while it would change strategy, it wouldn't really change the tradition of the game: As Rosenthal pointed out on the MLB Network, in 1974 the average numbers of a relievers in a game was 2.8; this past season it was 6.0. http://www.gammonsdaily.com/on-the-theo-epsteinken-rosenthal-idea-of-making-relievers-face-more-than-one-batter/ And Tony LaRussa may not have liked it but I have no doubt he would have found a way to make it work.
  11. I found your post to be the most helpful of this whole discussion. It compares the Twins to their peers, It could be expanded to include the WARs of the players if someone wants to do that. Thanks for looking at things a little differently.
  12. There have been a number of proposals for speeding up the game. While I favor enforcing the current rules, I'm not really in favor of a time clock. But now there is this idea: The answer seemingly is yes, but eureka! Here’s an idea that could both increase offense and improve the pace: Require relievers to face more than one batter per appearance. Make it at least two, or even better three. http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/just-a-bit-outside/story/rosenthal-speed-up-mlb-game-make-relievers-face-more-than-1-batter-faster-game-more-runs-012815 Yes, it would change the strategy of the game but it would introduce a whole new level of strategy. When I think about what drives me crazy about the current pace of the game, constantly changing pitchers is a big part of it. The game just doesn't seem to flow in the latter innings. This is an idea that warrants some consideration.
  13. Saw that Hicks is apparently working with Carew again. Maybe Rod can get through to him this time, https://twitter.com/RevMama/status/560572324345151489/photo/1
  14. To follow up: Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale · 16m16 minutes ago The #WhiteSox, who tried all winter to trade OF Dayan Viciedo, designated him for assignment. Also sign IF Gordon Beckham to 1-year, $2M deal
  15. A fast start is also important because 22 of the first 25 games are within the division. Winning ways in April could go a long way toward making the division seem weaker.
  16. Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi · 2m2 minutes ago Johan Santana has been scratched from remainder of Venezuelan Winter League championship series, agent Peter Greenberg confirms. So sad if this is the end. Update: Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi · 2m2 minutes ago Johan Santana, a free agent, still may throw for MLB scouts, according to Peter Greenberg, but those plans are unclear.
  17. You don't have to ban it but limiting the time frame makes it special, As it is now, its just another team. And how many fans really see them in person anyway rather than on TV? Not a majority I would guess,
  18. Add 2 teams and eliminate interleague play. I used to enjoy interleague play when it was limited to a certain period of time. Now it is just s jumbled mess. There is nothing special about it, I like the need to excel under both systems in the WS, Hope to someday see Molitor use those "smarts" in the WS..
  19. I honestly enjoy the duality as it makes for two different brands of baseball coming together each October, but it frustrates me the way people attack one side or the other of the issue. AMEN!!
  20. You forgot Delmon's homer to tie it up in the bottom of the 9th,
  21. Thanks. Hope the new coaching staff keeps your team really busy!
  22. What percentage goes to the agent? I know not all of the players use them initially but it is a factor.
  23. Why would Ryan want it? He'd have to move. Unless the Jays went back to strictly a GM, it would involve a lot of aspects of St, Peter's job and I don't think Ryan would want that. He's been with the Twins more than 30 years. I don't see that changing.
  24. I've read a lot of TwinsFest stories but I think this is my favorite: http://blogs.twincities.com/twins/2015/01/25/tom-kelly-hoping-cleared-week-attend-twins-spring-training/
  25. Sometime in the last few days I saw a tweet of a photo of a staffer working with 3 of the younger Latin players on their blurbs for the media guide. We tend to forget how many facets there are to the front office.
