  1. 6 months but huge improvement the last couple of weeks. All of a sudden I realized I could straighten my wrist and lift my fingers but fine motor skills are not quite there yet. Well Hicks tried and apparently didn't give himself a concussion.
  2. 60's predicted for NW Iowa. Hi everyone. I have been watching (and reading) but I'm still typing one-handed so not saying much. Good job, Escobar.
  3. Phil Miller of the Strib has an article up on Molitor's current line-up plans. http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/294946091.html?page=1&c=y Plans to start with 12 pitchers, 13 position players. Maybe with Santana and if Nolasco bounces back, that can last longer than mid-May. Also plans to designate a semi-permanent DH -- probably Vargas. But this was whatI found most interesting: And the oft-floated notion of rotation candidates Mike Pelfrey or Alex Meyer moving to the bullpen? Probably not going to happen, Molitor said. “It would be tough because it would be so new. Mike traditionally has been a guy that takes some time to get ready, and it’d be a big transition for him to get up and throw 12 pitches and come into the ballgame. Alex is a very routine guy, and for a young kid, you work him in as a starter in camp and all of a sudden you go, ‘OK let’s give him a couple innings out of the pen here and then throw him into a major league game.’ It’s hard to see how that could happen in the short-term,” Molitor said. “We’re going to keep them in that starter’s role for now.” Given the option situation doesn't this almost guarantee the 5th starter spot to Pelfrey unless he really stinks it up????
  4. Oh and in case anyone wonders, the game is on FSN+ not FSN.
  5. I haven't seen a lineup but Puckett's Pond has a list of those expected to play. http://puckettspond.com/2015/03/03/twins-announces-players-tilt-gophers/
  6. http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/just-a-bit-outside/story/houston-astros-may-have-a-problem-too-many-good-players-marisnick-singleton-gattis-rasmus-030215 Rosenthal has a take on the Astros situation that is not unlike the situation the Twins could face. He mentions that these things have a way of working themselves out usually through injury. But it is kind of interesting to think about some of the parallels between the Twins and the Astros.
  7. Ah, I get it now. I get so confused! But I do appreciate not having duplicate threads.
  8. Those were just 2 of them. He also said: Worse yet? No less than 7 of the clowns who sent vile or worse tweets are athletes playing college sports. I knew every name and school, sport and position, of every one of them in less than an hour. The ones that didn’t play sports were just as easy to locate. I’ve kept every tweet like the ones above; ;;;;; This is a generation of kids who have grown up behind the monitor and keyboard. The real world has consequences when you do and say things about others. We’re at a point now where you better be sure who you’re going after. If I was a deranged protective dad I could have been face to face with any of these people in less than 4 hours. I know every one of their names, their parents, where they go to school, what they do, what team they are on, their positions, stats, all of it. I had to do almost nothing to get ANY of that information because it is all public. What part of talking about a young woman, my daughter or not, makes you even consider the possibility that this is either funny or makes you tough? I found it rather funny at how quickly tone changed when I heard via email from a few athletes who’d been suspended by their coaches. Gone was the tough guy tweeter, replaced by the “I’m so sorry apology used by those only sorry because they got caught. It was EXACTLY like the Scared Straight episodes you watch where “tough” kids get brought to tears when they face the real world. I don't agree with Schilling on much but on this I say "Go, Curt, Go".
  9. Um. yeah, the Fangraphs post and extensive quotes from it were the basis of this thread and took up most of the initial post. Can someone enlighten me. If the Twins sign him does he move into the minor league system here in the states or does he enter the Twins academy in the DR for a period of time?????
  10. I find it interesting that both Hunter and Perkins have their sights set on jobs in the front office. Is this a first for the Twins if it happens? I know we've seen it elsewhere and frequently in other sports but I don't remember any Twins players joining the F.O. but I don't have a great knowledge of the history of the team.
  11. Who knows whether this will ever come to be? But Perkins actually does have an interesting concept here. He isn't talking about creating the stats himself but rather interpreting statistical data from other sources. In other words, serving as a kind of translator helping to bridge the gap between quant-speak and players. There have been a number of articles in the past about how players aren't receptive to advanced metrics (not just Twins players but players in other organizations too). I have to think that they would be more receptive to that type of info from a successful former player than from yet another numbers guy. But anyway, this is several years distant. A lot could change by then - both for Perkins and for the Twins use of statistical analysis.
  12. I went off the schedule on twinsbaseball.com but just now I went ahead and clicked the "Buy Tickets" link and it shows a game time of 7:05 EST and that's the time it show on the Fox Sports website for the broadcast. So it looks like it is supposed to be live unless KG's return has screwed it up.
  13. Their timeline is for the first real spring training game. I'm perfectly happy with the exhibition game vs. the Gophers especially since it is televised, Less than 95 hours to go.
  14. We can start counting down the hours. Weds. 3/4 6:05 Central FSN vs. Gophers LaVelle E. Neal III ‏@LaVelleNeal · 4h4 hours ago Buxton, Sano, Rosario expected to play in exhibition game on Wednesday vs @GopherBaseball
  15. I enjoyed that album. Thanks for posting it. Kepler is bigger than I thought. He & Mauer make Dozier look like a shrimp (sorry Brian).
  16. Presumably players' families have access to an emergency number during games that they could use in this time frame as well. 1/2 hour seems little enough. Personally I would probably make it more. Craig Breslow mentioned in a Dorsey piece on ST that teammates often text each other in the clubhouse. Get a clue - a text is not the same as a personal conversation. Go over and TALK to your teammate. And Torii will probably end up an enforcer because he can actually remember before people had cell phones permanently attached.
  17. I want the players to look like they are having fun (preferably because they are) even if the record isn't that much different. We read about the "library" like atmosphere in the clubhouse the last couple of years. I think the Twins have set out to change that. No more cell phones or ipads (or card games) 30 minutes before gametime. Additions of Torii and Ervin -- both outgoing guys with a visible love of the game. I hope for the continued emergence of Vargas who radiates fun. Look forward to Sano who also has a big personality. I also think Hughes & Perkins can be pretty dynamic. Even if they don't win more, at least they won't dull us to death,
  18. Blame auto fill-in. I can't figure out how to disable it so it does things like change Torii to Toro. I also love these updates. Keep 'em coming. With Torii, Kennys and Miguel, the Twins could have a best grin contest.
  19. Or stay up late. I do think Perkins has an interesting idea here but by the time he;s ready for that role maybe more players will be like him and already have an understanding of more of the metrics.
  20. I came in here to mention the same thing, Thrylos. I voted last night for Hunter because I do think he is currently the most marketable. With young players, it's tough but I think Vargaa, Sano, Arcia all have tremendous market potential. And if he starts hitting dingers, I think it is Vargas hands down -- that smile and personality are absolutely infectious.
  21. Well, it's Spring so I'm hoping this all works out. I'm another one who didn't fully appreciate how popular Hunter would be. And we'll hope his game doesn't fall off a cliff until he's 42. We can talk about prospects/young players all we want bur for the most part we haven't seen them yet. I think severak iof them have the charisma to replace Torii (Vargas would be my top choice) but they have a lot to show us on the field first.
  22. Even going back to Cuddy, I think that there was some acknowledgment that RF is more difficult at Target than LF. More spacious plus the overhang. I remember Cuddyer talking about the overhang.
  23. I doubt that they would move him again. We will still have Buxton, Hicks, Rosario plus others coming up. Seems more likely that they will man center and right. I think Arcia will probably be under the Delmon rule -- confine him to left where he can do the least harm.
  24. http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/294313461.html?page=1&c=y Perkins seems to hope that in time the Twins will add another member to the analytics staff -- him.
  25. I think a lot of the question of minorities getting into baseball is well-considered in this article by Andrew McCutchen (discussion in another thread): http://www.theplayerstribune.com/left-out/ As for how Twins fans will react to a minority dominated roster, winning will allay most of those concerns especially after the last four years. I think many of us have fond memories of the "Soul Patrol". I don't expect this to be much different. And I'm looking for a change of personality from this team although I expect that to come more from the Latin players than from the seemingly somewhat restrained Buxton and Hicks.
