  1. Nick, have you been drinking some of my Kool-Aid recently?
  2. I know this is a sarcastic post, but if Blackburn can figure things out to be a decent #4/#5 like he has shown in the past it would be huge for this club moving forward. No team is going to trade for him anytime soon and we owe him a nice chunk of change in 2013, so ideally he can get back to his old form for us and be an innings eater in 2013 with a 4.00-4.50 ERA, rather have that then spend another $3-$5 million on the next Ramon Ortiz/Livan Hernandez/Jason Marquis to fill out the back of the rotation.
  3. Wow, this is awesome that he is already throwing in live games. Even if the results were 1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER I'd still be happy. The fact he looked solid on the mound is icing on the cake. While a septemeber callup would be nice, I am pumped at the thought of him competing (and most likely earning) a spot in the rotation out of spring training next year. People seem to forget he was the #34 prospect in baseball before the injury. And though his 2011 ERA etc don't look the most impressive, his perphrials actually looked very impressive, including his increased k/rate. I still have faith he can become a very nice #2 in the major leagues with his GB% and his improved strike out rate. A poor mans #1 isn't completely out of the question as well!
  4. If the Rays needed OF help maybe they would make a perfect partner for a straight up Shields for Span straight up swap, but to be honest that doesn't really make sense for either team. Also Casilla has very little if any trade value at this point and giving up a top prospect(plus more likely) for two years of a guy like Shields is not something a club like the Twins should be making at this point.
  5. Yeah the whole "Derp the Twins are in the stone age when it comes to statistical analysis Derp is not only incorrect but getting very old quickly "
  6. Wait didn't Slowey get the Glen Perkins treatment? The difference of course being Perkins nutted up and became a very nice asset to the team in the pen, while Slowey sulked, got traded, and showed the Twins there massive mistake by immediately getting let go by the Rockies and sent to AAA by the Indians were he has posted a robust 5.14 ERA! Stupid Twins!
  7. Thats a valid point, I put Dozier ahead of him just because I think at this point Dozier has a significantly higher ceiling then Casilla and this is his first shot in the majors. If Casilla hadn't had a half dozen shots before I would agree, but the Twins have all but given him the opp to be in the starting lineup every single year if only he had preformed/stayed healthy.
  8. One thing I'd like to see is every 3rd or 4th year you do a US vs the World sort of all star game. You can still get one player from each team on a roster I imagine, no? Also, I'd LOVE to see a rookies vs rookies game (AL vs NL) game each year. (you could be liberal with the "rookies tag" i.e. anyone with less than 400 total ML PA by the all star game or 150 IP)
  9. Welp, looks like we will have to win it in 5 games if we want to see the Twins win the series at Target Field. Also, Nathan in the 2nd, lol.
  10. He isn't playing because he is the 4th best infield option at this point behind Plouffe, Dozier and Carroll. I get the whole wanting to trade Caroll thing since he is old and won't be part of the long term future, but Caroll shouldn't be benched on a regular basis for Alexi freaking Casilla who has had his share of chances thus far. If he wants to play every day he can easily win the job if he can actually put up a .650 OPS at this point.
  11. Casilla would be a nice stop gap if he could actually play more than a 100 games a year.
  12. Per Rosenthal: [h=3]GAMBLING ON LIRIANO[/h] Twins left-hander Francisco Liriano is 3-2 with a 2.74 ERA in eight starts since returning to the team’s rotation, but most clubs still are wary of trading for him. Liriano, even during this period of relative prosperity, is averaging 4.4 walks per nine innings. The Braves have been linked to him, but why would they want a potential free agent, who is no more trustworthy than their young starters? Better the Braves should trade for Greinke — or better still, Rays right-hander James Shields, who is earning $7 million this season, with club options of $9 million next season and $12 million in 2014. Some clubs like Liriano better as a reliever. And it’s doubtful that any will part with significant prospects when under the new collective bargaining agreement, there is no possibility of draft-pick compensation if he leaves as a free agent. The Twins, by the way, will listen not just on Liriano. Closer Matt Capps, recovering from right shoulder inflammation, also will be available once he comes off the disabled list, sources say
  13. Not sure Thomas is really blocking anyone. Benson will be up in AAA as soon as he starts hitting again, Hicks/Arcia most likely aren't ready yet.
  14. Very quietly Hicks has closed out his frist half of the AA season with pretty respectable numbers. He now has a .271/358/433 line and has already tied his career high with 8 HR, also he has 18 SB and from all reports is already major league ready defensively. Once upon a time not to long ago Hicks was the clear #1 in the Twins system and is still relatively young at 22. It seems like most of the love these days is going towards the Sano/Arcia/Rosario Trio, but with Hicks emergence the Twins now have 5 guys (including Buxton) who should most certainly crack the majority of the top 100 lists heading into next season. (I'd also add that Gibson IMO is still a top 100 guy the second he gets back from the injury) What are the odds that Hicks can be on the Twins major league roster by next May?
  15. Yeah, I'm still convinced the Mets ruined Gomez. Young IMO was always going to be a lost cause with his approach, but Gomez could have been a decent player if they wouldn't have rushed him through the system IMO.
  16. Yup, best reliver was on the mound at the time. At that point its "his" game. Ya win some ya lose some. This was a rough first half no doubt, but there have been some positives to take away: Plouffe, Mauer, Willingham, Doumit, Span, Revere have all been producing very well, Morneau is at least healthy and Dozier well, shows flashes here and there. The bullpen has been very good all season and the rotation, while a mess has produced some bright spots at points Diamond, Liriano, Walters are 3 guys if chosen to could be a decent set up to a 2013 rotation (3,4,5) still need a 1,2 but its getting better. Also since May 27th the Twins have had a 21-16 record, 17-12 since Jun 2nd so there is some hope they can finish with 75 or so wins, which is far from great but something to build on heading into 2013.
  17. Disappointing loss, but at least De Vries looked good. The defense let em down tonight.
  18. I turned the trade down for now, Banuelos injury worries me and I have a retarded sentimental attachment to Trumbo, I remember drafting that guy in the orginal draft and holding out hope he would hit bombs in the majors ever since.
  19. Offer him a 2 year/16-17 mil contract (can go up to 9 mil a year with 200 IP/incentives) with a 10 mil team option (1 mil buy out). If he declines trade him for whatever you can get. Giving him a 1 year 12.5 million dollar deal is bad for a few reasons: 1. You are overpaying him by at least 3-4 million. The Twins don't have the luxury at this point to be over paying for players. 2. It doesn't solve your long term pitching issues. If Liriano pitches like a stud in 2013 then they end up losing him at the end of 2013 and there is another hole in the rotation moving forward. You need to have him around for at least 2 years to make it worthwhile (since the Twins look to have a better shot to win in 2014 then 2013) Also it should also be noted that Liriano wouldn't need to pitch like an "ace" to make the contract worthwhile. If you are giving him 8-9 million a year and he gives you 190-200 IP with around a 4.00 ERA he is defiantly worth that money. (See Pavano's value in 2010/2011)
  20. Roid Rage.
  21. Hey guys, Just got offered Banuelos+Ellsbury+Chris Johnson+1st round minor pick for Homer Bailey+Trumbo+Romo. Thoughts? Kab says I should jump on it, and try to get Middlebrooks in the place of Banuelos. I'm a little torn to be honest and would like advice from you guys.
  22. Agreed, take the guy with the highest upside/most talent and if everything works out you can always trade another bat later. Also if they do trade Span this year it does take an additional 4.75 mil(2013) and 6 mil (2014) off the books, just more money they could use to try to land some good free agent pitchers.
  23. First off, Hamilton is only 21 and is now in AA, it's not like he is 26 and repeating various levels. Second off, Hamilton has shown quite a bit of improvement this year in his power over last year, in 2010 he showed pretty decent pop as well so his 2011 campaign is looking like the outlier at this point. He has his issues at SS, but there is no reason why he couldn't make it work at 2B or CF. He is taking a lot more walks this year (almost 2x as often as his career average) and is a good bet to swipe 150+ bases by the end of this season. That is simply amazing. Assuming he doesn't fall off a cliff in AA we are looking at a top 20 prospect. How you can say the Twins wouldn't be well off with gettng Hamilton is a bit mind boggling. With all that said I highly doubt the Reds trade him for anyone we can offer. Liriano won't bring back enough and I imagine we'd have to include another piece with Span. I for one would be absolutely thrilled with a Span for Hamilton straight up trade, and Hamilton is the type of prospect who could be ready to contribute at the major league level sometime in the 2013 season. (He will almost certainly be up with the Reds in sept for a playoff run as a weapon off the bench)
  24. Offer him 2 years/15 million right now. I doubt he would do much better on the open market at this point. If he declines, then trade him. 1 year 12.5 million is way to much if he accepts (which he most certainly would)
