  1. Wow, are you serious? For one thing, he has the 7th highest WAR of any CF this year, trailing guys like Hamilton, McCutchen, Trout and Bourn. Fan Graphs has him as the 3rd best defensive CF this year as well, trailing only Bourn and Trout and also ranks in the top ten for .BA and OBP for all CF, his .BABIP is about 30 points lower then his career average which indicates he is getting a bit unlucky at the plate and his average, obp and sulgging should all continue to improve as well. He has the 3rd lowest K rate which is exactly what you want out of a leadoff or #2 hitter type guy, hes going to put the ball in play. Through on top of it that you would have Span for 3+ years and you have yourselves a nice little ball player. Hell I could even see a non contending team like Seattle trading for Span.(Maybe not at the deadline obviously, but heading into next season)
  2. Yeah its a good argument, honestly you prob just take the best arm available, but I would feel alot better if said pitcher was less than 1 year away from the majors as every top pitching prospect has had some bad luck in the Twins system the past 4-5 years. Guerra, Gibson, Whimmers, Hunt, etc
  3. He's a very good defensive CF who is one of the better lead off men in baseball, his career OBP is .358 so he gets on base plenty and adds some decent pop as well (4 away from hitting his career best in 2B in a season). 104 Career OPS+ with playing a premium position and being signed to a team friendly contract gives him plenty of value. As far as the SB comment goes, he is on pace to swipe 16-18 and I wonder with a more aggressive manager if he couldn't give you SB a year agian.
  4. In a perfect world you would trade Span for a Gio Gonzalez type pitcher. If that is actually available on the market at this point.
  5. St Thomas eh? Went to a wedding full of St Thomas alumni last summer, good people.
  6. Me no grammer vary well.
  7. If Parmelee hits enough to be an everyday RF/1B/DH the Twins will find a way to get him into the lineup and it is one of those nice problems to have.
  8. Signing Doumit to a 2 year deal is just like making a trade!
  9. Wow, your old.
  10. This move would make zero sense. Why not just sign Mayo and trade for a 3?
  11. Span is certainly worth more than a top 100 guy and worlds more than a 100-200 guy. Yes Span isn't the hitter Beltran is, but he is an affordable CF leadoff guy who you can pencil into the spot for the next 3+ years.
  12. Very good signing, immediately adds depth at an important position and a solid bat for the next two years. The Twins couldn't do any better on the upcoming FA market IMO. Now hopefully he can just stay healthy (knocks on wood)
  13. I mean, for the first few playoff series they had Radke in the rotation as well, a 1-2 of Santana and Radke was pretty solid in my opinion. Also guys like Silva (when he was good!) Loshe and Liriano all got starts as well. Again not the greatest rotation ever, but a Santana/Radke led rotation was solid enough to match up with other teams. It's really a shame Liriano got hurt in 2006, that was the team to beat. I agree on Gardy, though he prob deserves some of the blame since the Twins have lost 11 in a row in the playoffs or something like that. However, I don't think he should be fired or anything.
  14. Also it was at a SABR conference, so Ryan may have been distracted from the stench from the folks who haven't left there parents basement fo the past year and the amount of neck-beards in the audience
  15. Yeah, if he makes it up in 2013 its a good problem to have. Plus if Span is traded suddenly the RF position opens again which Doumit could help fill. Ideally you have a guy like Arcia/Hicks or Benson step up next season....but in the case of Benson and Hicks things don't look very positive for them to be impact players in 2013, Arcia is the wild card I imagine, and if that is the case you simply play Doumit as DH. (Assuming Herrmann is the back up catcher-unlikely)
  16. Even 100-150 ABs is a relatively small sample size,
  17. Except it won't be Bundy or even close to a Bundy type guy..
  18. I think he meant that curve balls/change ups can often be taught and refined in a big league organization, fastball, velocity and control etc can't so much be taught after the kid is done with high school/college.
  19. Gardy deserves some blame, but bad luck, bad matchups (seriously, the Twins matched up terribly against the Yankees those years) and the players (see Hunter's mistake, hitting disappearing) share equal blame.
  20. They need to get a major league pitcher or a major league ready pitcher (solid #2) in return. Can't be giving up Span for a guy 3 years away from the majors.
  21. Are you saying the 2006 team didn't have enough talent to challenge or even be a favorite for a world series? Heck, the only year I think the Twins were completely out matched heading into the playoffs was 2008, the rest of the years they had a solid enough roster where they SHOULD have been able to compete. Hard to blame that on Ryan.
  22. I would be thrilled if the Twins got an NYPL team.
