  1. Who is joking?
  2. It should be noted that its highly likely that Mauer could have caught many more games in the 1st half, however they have a back up catcher who has a good enough bat that warrants being in the lineup every day. So basically you can C Mauer or DH Mauer with Doumit as the DH or C and you still have the same team on the field more or less. You lose a bit defensively, but you gain a bit in Mauer's bat. Also in his last 40 games (18 at DH and 1st Base) Mauer has put up a .980 OPS. That sort of bat plays anywhere on the field.
  3. Keith Law hates the Twins.
  4. Here are the other players on the top 25 paid list (top 15 were above) Felix Hernandez: Yes Carlos Lee: bahahahahha Soriano: no Zambrano: no Zito: no Hunter: no Lincecum: pass Jason Bay: no Ichiro: production wise prob not. Beckett: no Peavy: this year yes.
  5. Please point out the couple "yes" that I am missing. So suddenly OPS isn't a good way to determine how a player is hitting? Or am I not including the fact that Prince and Texiera play the easiest position in baseball? For pitchers should I use wins instead of ERA? I'm confused.
  6. What exactly are you trying to say/ask?
  7. In all reality its very hard to justify spending 20+ million on anyone, but the market is what it is. Check out the other top earners this year and determine if they are "living up to the total dollar value": 1. A-Rod- 30mm, Nope. 2. Vernon Wells- 24mm. nope 3.Johan Santana- 23mm. Nice season so far, but nope. 4.Mark Texiera 23mm. Nope. .808 OPS 5. Prince Fielder 23mm Nope. Mauer actually has a higher OPS+ 6. CC Sabathia 23mm- maybe but signs point to no. 3.45 ERA Adrian Gonzalez. nope. 745 OPS Cliff Lee. Nope. 3.98 ERA Miguel Cabrera. Yes. Carl Crawford. LOL nope. Verlander. Yes. Halladay. Nope. 3.98 ERA Ryan Howard. Nope. By comparison Mauer's contract actually looks pretty decent.
  8. The Twins have the 5th most BB in baseball this year, and the 4th most in 2010. Its not exactly like they are "swinging away" at everything.
  9. heh, yeah that whole thing seemed fishy to me. "arrest him for existing arrest for now! We will pin something on him later" 10 minutes later "oh sh*t, it's Adrian Peterson!" I'm not a fan of bringing up race, but I'm quite confident race had a lot to do with this in Texas..
  10. Really good article, glad he expanded on the "curve ball/change up" thing that Thyrlos was going nuts about. He is absolutely right, if you don't have a good fastball you can locate, not a whole lot else matters. Also I like how they don't try to build one inning relievers, keeping them stretched out in the minors is a very good thing. I liked this as well re: Minnesota Twins using statistical anaylsys, also the fact he does read Fangraphs/others probably comes to a huge shock to the Ryan haters (DPJ, Thrylos etc)
  11. The Royals have had like 6 guys go town with Tommy John surgery this year. I think its just bad luck to be honest. Pavano has been completely healthy since joining the Twins and Blackburn has been healthy for the most part up until this year as well. (I could be wrong on this)
  12. LOL at the thought of trading for John freaking Lanahan, at this point you could get him for nothing if you agreed to pick up his salary.
  13. He never claimed they were...he said those were the top players he had seen at the time when they went through Beloit and no where else.
  14. Gausman isn't going to sign as well.
  15. He definately read BYTO
  16. The Twins wouldn't lose a pick..
  17. no, it wouldn't since each team would actually be trying to win the games.
  18. Lyle French? Dozier down for Tosoni? What on earth are you talking about?
  19. If it was up to me I'd rather they trade Caroll and keep Casilla around as the UTIL INF/Back up guy off the bench for a couple reasons. Casilla would make 1.75 million (2 mil if you count the club option to decline in 2014) less than Caroll next year (assuming he gets 2 mil in arb) and could provide better speed off the bench if needed. With all that said, the Twins would still need to find an everyday 2B for 2013 if that's the case, Plouffe maybe is an option if Valencia comes back somewhat effective? Or else you have to roll with Alexi as the every day 2B heading into the season which is far from ideal.
  20. More or less he has proven capable of taking good solid routes to fly balls/line drives to the outfied. But to be fair they were saying he was a major league ready CF (defensively) a year or two ago. The point being, if he can even manage to hit close to league average he will be a valuable major leaguer overall. If his bat/power continues to improve he could be something very special when he makes it to the show.
  21. It's really unfair to judge his current results, heck most #2 picks in past years wouldn't even be playing ball until August or 2013. Buxton undoubtedly has the 2nd highest upside of all Twins prospects. If you want to rank him #3 behind Sano and Arcia I understand that, but having him below Hicks and Rosario seems a little to heavily invested in experience at this point. IMO we have the following at this point but I admit I am a huge Homer so take these with a slight grain of salt: Sano- top 15-20 prospect in baseball. Buxton- Top 20-30prospect in baseball Arcia- Top 40-50 prospect in baseball Hicks- Top 50-60 prospect in baseball Rosario- Top 60-75 prospect in baseball (Could be higher without the injury) Also if Gibson proves healthy/back to normal there is no reason why he can't be back in close to the 50 as well.
  22. Your delusional if you think Gardy is the reason this team has been crappy the past two seasons. 2011: An ungodly amount of Injuries- Not Gardy's fault. 2012: Awful, Awful rotation- Not Gardy's fault.
  23. Feel free to name the other 4 pitchers in the rotation other than Blackburn that will block Gibson at the start of next year? Though on 2nd thought, maybe delaying Gibsons entry into the majors to avoid super 2 status wouldn't be the worst thing in the world....
  24. Yeah, Kemp not getting the MVP last year was a damn crime!
  25. The Angels will be in the race til the end and will most likely make the playoffs, so Trout if he continues to play well will most certainly be in MVP hunt. A better question is if Mauer continues to hit like he has since the middle of May (.980 OPS) will he be considered an MVP candidate?
