  1. It's not worthless, its just not strong enough to be used as a stand alone in an argument, it will show you some relative value of players. For instance Delmon was in negative numbers for a bit, which I think is entirely accurate.
  2. IIRC Gibson was considered a top 5 or top 10 talent who only fell due to injury concerns, if anything it was very un twins to take a risk on a high upside guy like that in the first round.
  3. To be fair you were hating on everything they were doing while they were winning 94 games..
  4. Please, if Minnesota would have offered him the same contract the Mets gave him he would have signed here in a minute. Johan was done with Minnesota because the Twins decided to invest that money in Mauer instead.
  5. LOL wow.The Stewart trade was a huge win. The Mientiqiidontknowhowtospellit trade was simply dumping a medicore player to open up a spot for a superior player behind him (Morneau). How was that a bust? They got Boone for nothing, he sucked but it's not like they gave up anything. Castillo was a salary dump 100%, say what you want about Butera but he did develop into one of the best defensive catchers in the game, and though he shouldn't be in the majors he would be a nice player in AAA to work with the pitchers. Dustin Martin ended up being a AAAA player. Not sure those were exactly "busts" just more "meh" then anything else. A bust is when you trade Ramos for Capps or Garza/Bartlett for Young.
  6. Takes those into account as well.
  7. Much like WAR it's not currently giving him "full credit" as a full time catcher, its give him half credit at C and half at 1st base, so basically its a wash.
  8. Do we really need to be having this discussion for the 5th time this month?
  9. At the time he was drafted he had the #2 upside, though #3 was prob the far more likely scenario, also when he first hit the scenes in Ft Myers he dominated with 23 strike outs in 15.2 innings. Nobody could predict that he would get the yips and then get injured (I think these things were actually one in the same at the end of the day) Pitchers get hurt, it happens.
  10. Weird, it's like people in this thread are claiming that sometimes high draft picks in baseball don't work out! What a weird sport this is, we certainly know this isn't the case in the NFL, NBA or NHL. Seriously, Whimmers was a solid pick at the time, to go back and play captain hindsight now is stupid. Unless you had a legit gripe at the time like DPJ, but he hates everything the Twins do.
  11. If Willingham or Span were a rental player it would make sense, but neither team is going to over-react to a 4-6 week injury by trading assets for a guy who will they will be on the hook for 3 years. (Though it is still possible they would want Willingham or Span, I just don't think the injurys will make the least bit of difference)
  12. I assumed Selig was to busy fixing exhibition games and meaningless home run derby rules instead of worrying about MLB's image issues, declining ratings, etc.

  14. Yup, there is no reason why they can't be back at the top of the division in another season and a half. I know that clashes with your theory that the Twins will suck until 2019. Hell, if they can get some good arms back in trades and sign a good arm or two they could compete as early as next year if things break right with Hendriks and Gibson.
  15. There is no reason why the Twins can't be a playoff team in 2014 as long as Ryan continues to make some solid moves.
  16. We finally find a player who can hit a bunch of home runs in Target Field and we want to get rid of him? No thanks. Unless we are offered a top flight prospect(Billy Hamilton or better) I have no real desire to get rid of one of the best bats we have had in some time.
  17. I can't see Gardenhire going into 2013 as a lame duck manager he will either come back with the intention to be around a while or he will retire at the end of the year, I personally hope he sticks around as the manager for a few more years, I don't think they are going to do much better than Gardy and the chances they get someone a lot worse is more likely. Unrelated: I think Gardy would make a great color guy on TV.
  18. I put the odds at that at less than 1% The last thing the Twins neeed to do is get into a bidding war with teams over free agent pitching. Sign him now, or trade him.
  19. I wouldn't get too excited about Evan Bigley, the guy has basically been a non prospect who only now has shown decent HR power at AA his third time in the league at age 25. Even with the HR "surge" his OPS is far to low at AA this year (.755) for a corner OF to get real excited about him being anything more than organizational filler down the road. I mean I hope he continues to impress, I'm just not holding my breath. However Benson, Hicks and Arcia should all be knocking on the door at some point in 2013, some even earlier hopefully.
  20. Good idea, didn't even know we had the option!
  21. He is 8th in the league in OPS ahead of guys like Bautista, Dunn, Konerko, Fielder and Beltre and immediately behind Miggy. How is this not a break out season? If anything his .268 batting average indicates that this season is not a fluke, and that there is no reason not to think that he can't keep this up moving forward as long as he stays healthy.
  22. Well if Lev says so we all know it must be true, thanks for the insight into the mind of a major league pitcher! Also your tl;dr gibberish was much longer then the 3 sentance maximum discussed earlier in the thread.
  23. Perhaps just as encouraging Sano had 2 walks to go with his HR and only 1 k in his 5 PA
  24. I would also like to trade Ben Revere for Mike Trout.
  25. Only way they consider is it if they give up Sano plus another top prospect plus Liriano. Again, it's never going to happen.
