  1. google.com or baseballreference.com would have both been acceptable answers as well
  2. In 2012: Mauer caught him 7 games(all of which before the "comeback" from the pen): 8.75 ERA Doumit 2 games: 10.57 ERA Butera: 12 games (10 of which were starts after he came back from the pen the other 2 were in the pen): 2.73 ERA Thus we can conclude 2 things from the all the numbers I posted in the past 3 posts: 1. Mauer suddenly lost the ability to call a clean game. 2. Butera isn't the main reason(or even close to the main reason) why Liriano is pitching well again.
  3. Add on to last post: In 2010 Butera caught 8 of his games: 3.60 ERA In 2010 Mauer caught 20 of his games: 3.37 ERA
  4. In 2011 Butera caught 10 of Lirianos games. Liriano had a 5.85 ERA In 2011 Mauer caught 8 of his games. Liriano had a 5.31 ERA. Unless Butera taught Liriano how to add 3 MPH suddenly to his fastball, I can't give him that much credit for Liriano's turnaround this year. Could he effect it a bit? Sure, but not by large significant amount.
  5. Kepler 2 hits and a HR. Harrison got a double and no errors!!1! Sano 0 for 5, 2k's. Average down to .242 Liddle hit a HR and Vargas had 2 HR. Santana hit a HR Boer 6 IP, 6k, 1 ER, 1 BB Hicks 0 for 2 but with 3 walks. Arcia 1 for 3 with 2 walks. Burroughs has 4 hits so far in the double header. Unfortunately he is basically a singles hitter this year.
  6. I agree with this, I just don't see the "sell high" price being paid at this point by any teams. The whole trade market as a whole seems to be lacking "sell high" offers, people are even saying they wouldn't give up a ton for a Hamels or Greinke at the deadline. If the offer makes sense, do it, but just don't trade Willingham to trade him.
  7. I said I would prefer 2/20 (of course I would!) But threw out 3/30 and asked if that is to friendly? 3/33? I'd be fine with that as well. I just can't see a team giving him much more than 3/36 on the FA market. and if the Twins offer 3/30 now maybe he takes it due to the whole security thing/not risk FA market or a potential injury/regression etc etc? Also he mentioned he likes it here and wants to stay here, so that has to at least help a tiny bit? I can't imagine him succeeding in a large market to be honest, you think fans are tough on him in Minnesota? Just wait until he has one bad start in NY or BOS.
  8. Will the Rangers have a spot for him?
  9. To be fair there is typically no reason to carry 3 catchers on a roster, however with Doumit and Mauer both being used as part time catchers this season it's not the worst idea in the world. However in seasons past when they carried 3 catchers....no comment!
  10. He also will be turning 38 next season and has showed significant decline in all aspects of his game the past couple seasons. I'm sure he will be looking for more and someone may give it to him, I'd just be interested in him for around a one year 5 mil contract. (Maybe even less) I'm not sure the Angels will really have room for him next year anyways, so the market could be somewhat thin.
  11. Is 3/30 really that team friendly? Do you think teams are going to be offering him 4+ years and more than 10-12 million a year in free agency?
  12. I knew, and know exactly what a quality start is. It was the poster before me who was trying to make a point of what Bert said (or didn't say?) He said "Bert says 5 IP and 3ER is what he (bert) considers a quality start" Anyways, what exactly is your point again? Are you contributing to this thread at all or just wanting to argue semantics of another post that has little to do with the subject? Also FWIW you were the one posting links to wikipedia, not I. All I did was respond to another poster and my thought that I'd rather have a pitcher that gives you 7/8 IP and 4 ER rather than 5 and 3 ER. Hell give me the 8 IP 4 ER over the 6 IP 3 ER guy 8 days a week.
  13. Last week he said he would be open in returning to the Twins. He said the Angels, Rangers and Twins all interest him with his preference being staying in LA.
  14. There is 0 chance the Twins pick up Bakers 9 mil option, I wouldn't be opposed to bringing him back on a heavy incentive based deal, but the Twins shouldn't count on him being an answer to the rotation for the full season.
  15. If its a close game then it could be two at bats since you could just PH for him and put Mauer or Doumit behind the plate late in the game.
  16. 1 year yes. 2 years? no way. 1 year 4-5 mil sounds about right. He could play a solid RF and fill in at DH when needed.
  17. I'd be much more worried if any of the current AAA team was considered "top 20 prospects" in our system
  18. I'd rather the Twins take a risk on a guy who can be a great pitcher rather then spread out that $30 million on a splattering of mediocre arms like Pavano (who they have given 24 million over the past 3 years), Marquis, Hernandez, Capps, etc
  19. I like Dozier and think he can stick eventually, but let's be honest, the guy has been pretty bad in his time on the big league club. Defensively he has been close to average and offensively he has been rather awful with a .591 OPS. I'd hate to see Willingham and his .950 OPS+ replaced with a guy who could potentially put up a Dozier like line because he isn't fully ready.
  20. I guess it depends on what you mean by "damn near ML ready" If you are saying they could be brought up in the next few weeks and be effective major leaguers I think you are mistaken as none of these guys are knocking on the door at this point. I think all three will be up sometime in 2013 but its not a guarantee any will be effective major leaguers in 2013 as often times there is quite an adjustment period before these guys preform at a major league level. For one: Benson has been awful 90% of this season and Arcia and Hicks both need to work on the things Pig posted above. I'm as huge of a Hicks homer as they come, but it should be noted that he wasn't doing a ton the past couple years up until these past 2-3 months. It wouldn't shock me to see him suddenly struggle again if he went up to the majors. Arcia looks like the safest bet at this point to succeed, but I'd like to see more than 100 PA above Ft Myers before I suddenly pencil him into a starting role. Just because we have some nice depth in the minors doesn't mean we should just dump our current productive outfielders, it's not like there is some sudden rush to trade Willingham now anyways. If he keeps playing well we can always trade him next season if Hicks, Arcia and/or Benson are knocking on the door.
  21. I have always been surprised that Lincoln,Nebraska doesn't have a team. Omaha has always done pretty well, and the distance between Omaha and Lincoln is far enough where it shouldn't effect much.
  22. I have mentioned a few times that I would prefer a 2/20-22 type contract with a team option but would be willing to goto 3/30-3/33. Would he take it? Who knows, but if they offer it now I think there is a chance he takes it. He and his agent know his track record as well. They also had that article recently that said Liriano wants to stay in Minnesota and likes playing for the Twins, so that has to count for something? Prior to that I believe Kobs and Kab both had said there was no way Liriano would ever want to stay with the Twins.
  23. I am well aware of the Quality start stat, champ. It blows my mind that people use Wikipedia for sports information.... Also if you would read the orginal message it's pretty obvious I'm not the one who said it was 5 innings/3ER, I was quoting someone else who said it. That user wrote that Bert said 5 IP/3ER. Regarless the Quality Start is not the end all/be all in determining a pitcher's effectiveness. It is much better then wins/losses though.
  24. I still think Liriano's resurgence is due more to his ability to throw his faster 3 MPH faster since the demotion and his ability to throw the slider more often. Is Drew potentially calling for the slider? Perhaps. Though most of the credit should be given to Anderson for fixing whatever he did with Liriano.
  25. FWIW he has shown some improvement at the plate this year, while a .634 OPS, 75 OPS+ isnt going to turn any heads it should be noted you CAN live with that sort of production from a back up/3rd catcher, especially when said catcher is: 1. Excellent defensively, Butera might be the best defensive catcher in baseball. 2. There is nobody better to replace him with. (Towles has struggled and everyone else is too far away) 3. It's not like he is keeping someone off the bench, i.e. when Parmelee was on the roster he was basically rotting on the bench. I'm not the largest fan of "personal catchers", however its hard to deny his success with Liriano and no DeDuno, perhaps he is the latin pitcher whisperer after all? Either way, I will root for the guy, he is a master of his craft defensively and has made it to the bigs for 2+ years now possesing hitting skills the majority of NCAA players could match, its kind of a neat story. If he can somehow continue to post an OPS+ above 70 (I'm not saying he will) then he is an acceptable back up catcher in the major leagues.
