  1. Pino is an interesting case, his k/9 (8.0), bb/9(2.2) and k:bb ratio are all pretty damn good in the minors. Last year he put up a nice 1.35 ERA and nearly 9k/9 in his time as a relief pitcher, also his starting numbers weren't terrible either. Potentially could become a nice cheap bullpen option for us, and a potential spot starter as well (Could be a cheaper Swarzak down the road)
  2. Dude has some real nice power, I might actually prefer him at a DH role over Doumit. However with Willingham and Doumit on the roster he is a little redundant, I guess he could be an early season insurance plan for Plouffe, but his defense makes Trevor look like a gold glove winner. Who knows, maybe they are planning on trading Doumit? If that is the case, a Kubel/Reynolds DH platoon honestly wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
  3. Having DeDuno, Gibson, Albers, Diamond, Worley, Swarzak being discussed as the #5 pitcher, instead of being discussed as the #1,#2,#3 and #4 pitchers is a nice problem to suddenly have.
  4. Hernandez, collaberro, fryer all wouldn't be missed.
  5. When you had the worst pitching staff in baseball the last two years, you can't go far enough IMO. The Twins shouldn't be NOT making moves for guys like DeDuno, Diamond, Albers etc
  6. I think it makes plenty of sense for the Twins to offer him a 2 year deal, if he pitches like he did as he was getting healthier towards the end of the season (high k rate) lower ERA etc, then it's in the Twins best interest to have him cheap for two years instead of one. As far as why he wants the 2 years- Security? Maybe he just really does want to stay in Minnesota and likes it there? Also, I don't see this as an either/or scenario at all. Signing Pelfrey for 12 mil total more or less doesn't stop the Twins from signing ANYONE this year or more importantly next year. Maybe it isn't so much Garza or Pelfrey at this point. Maybe its Garza or Bailey (or someone else on the 2015 market) The one thing I do know is this, the Twins had by far the worst starting rotation in baseball last year, the last thing they need to be worried about at this point is "having too many pitchers" they had maybe 1 and a half last year total. Worst case scenario is you have 6-7 legit guys somehow (including DeDuno, Gibson, Diamond etc) and that is one of those good problems to have.
  7. And yet he only hit 160 IP in a season once, and was let go by both the Twins and Cleveland (and booted from the rotation by the hapless Marlins) Clearly every GM and scout in baseball has missed the mark on the great Kevin Slowey. It reminds me a lot of the Slowey situation, but even more legitimate (to let Hendriks go) People were freaking when Slowey was let go by the Twins, but he has done absolutely nothing since then to make the Twins regret it in the least. I can't see Hendriks doing much of anything to make the Twins regret it. (anything more than a nice 5-6 game run or something)
  8. Agreed, however, .800 is a weird cut off, I think there is a more than decent shot he can give you 20 HR and a .770 OPS, especially if he is limited against lefties (.823 lifetime OPS against RHP) 20 HR and .770 isn't going to set the world on fire, but it should be noted that is pretty good production in the majors on a minimum contract even if the guy isn't bringing you any real defensive value.
  9. The thing is Parm wasn't even that good when given playing time in AAA last year, his numbers outside of rookie ball and his 2012 season at AAA are pretty mediocre across the board for a guy who brings you zero defensive value. I still have some hope for him as he could suddenly "turn it on" but at this point of his career, Parmelee should be blocking exactly no one, especially a guy who is only a year removed from a .830 OPS and 30 HR's
  10. Arcia is going to be in the lineup every day most likely, and if he isn't it means he is struggling quite a bit and needs more time in AAA. The leash with Kubel would be short I imagine, let's just say he comes on like gangbusters in ST and earns a starting spot (likely DH). If he struggles the first 3-4 weeks of the season I can't see the Twins waiting to cut him loose. I'm not really worried about Parmelee's playing time at all. Parmelee has shown next to nothing his last two seasons on the Twins, either he is going to flat out earn regular playing time or he isn't. Other than Parmelee the only guy he really takes potential at bats from to start the season is Doumit, and maybe Plouffe later on (once Sano is up). I don't see a real issue there, since if Kubel is getting at bats on the reg, he is probably preforming. However, he absolutely should be in a platoon at the absolute most.
  11. If things break right, 2014 may not be a lost cause...
  12. Yeah there is risk, but keep in mind the twins basically gave the same amount of money for Ramon Ortiz, Jason marquis and Sidney ponson combined. (I would bring up Blackburn if I was a lesser man)
  13. Hughes 3/25>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>arroyo on ANY 2 or 3 year deal.
  14. Omg! Omg! Omg! Omg! This is a perfect signing!!!!!
  15. Deduno doesn't have top of the rotation type stuff, nor is he as bad as thrylos is trying to claim. He is a #5 guy at this point, no more, no less. He could be an above average #5 or he could pitch himself out of a job. It's that simple.
  16. Diamond at best is a #5 starter at this point, losing him would be a bummer but not killer. Worley is....intriguing, if he shows something in ST give him a shot. Deduno is prob a #5 at best as well. Give me Hughes over any of them any day. Besides if Worley is a mess, would anyone claim him and give him a major league roster spot anyways? I'm pretty sure the whole thing will work itself out
  17. Rosario/or Perkins(doubt the latter happens), Gibson and a lower prospect or two for Bailey. 6/100 mil to Bailey. Sign Hughes to Kabs deal above, the third year option is the key. Bailey Nolasco Hughes Moving foward is nice, you can fill out 4/5 with cheap in house options.(Meyer, deduno, diamond, Worley, correia for this year, etc) Edit: I'd also try to get that catcher from the reds as well. Additionally, if they wanted an immediate back end arm for the rotation, toss in correia as well. Though he doesn't do much for the overall value.
  18. Sign Hughes, trade for Bailey.
  19. 40 man roster issues are the least of this teams problems
  20. /Fap fap fap
  21. Nah
  22. I mean, if all things break right (counting on Arcia, Pinto, Sano, Meyer and Gibson to come on like gangbusters) I could see it. However, I think it gets us one step closer to respectability, sign another nice top of rotation pitcher and a bat....then I think we are suddenly a dark-horse in 2014.
  23. Very odd that you suddenly come around to WAR all of sudden, when less than 24 hours ago you were completely ignoring it in regards to Pelfrey who you called terrible and "Hendriks could put up equal numbers" even though Pelfrey put up 9.2 WAR over his last 5 full seasons. (including last year) Additionally you were telling us all how Doumit could be expected to outproduce Salty overall at catcher, when a quick glance at WAR shows us that in the last year Salty beat Doumit in WAR 3.6 to 0.1, in the last two years: 4.5 to 1.5 and in the last 3 years: 7.1 to 3.4 I'm not saying WAR is the end all be all stat (never have) but its a little odd you suddenly only respond to this signing, by using WAR as your only rebuttal, when you have done nothing but dismissed it time and time again very recently when it conveniently didn't fit your narrative.
  24. Kershaw, scherzer, and Lester will all likely stay put.
