  1. You bring up Hunter, which ended up working out for the Angels, but they are a perfect example of having albatross contracts: Pujols, Wells, Hamilton are all going to prevent them from winning.
  2. Good, he shouldn't play and get worn down.
  3. There is no way the Twins would offer him only one year, that would be the king of all insults. Additionally, Garza WILL get 4 years...at least. I'd be willing to wager a large amount of money on that.
  4. Priefer is certainly on the way out, Spielman should follow his bigoted ass out the door as well.
  5. What a joke this franchise is. They need to clean house top to bottom.
  6. None of it was bad at all, Gardy even said after they traded away Garza that he wished he had him back. Additionally, I am sure both sides have grown a bit over the last several years. IIRC people read wayyyyy to much into some pretty harmless quotes, the same folks who swore up and down the Twins would never get Perkins to play for them etc.
  7. Not much doesn't mean "none". I am pretty confident they could trade Correria to a number of teams for nothing more than a PTBNL and save the 5 million. Also, I still don't see the rush to DFA/trade him even if they sign Garza.
  8. The problem is, there aren't a whole lot of lefty hitting SS/2B/3B..... However if you want a guy who can hit everything and play all of those positions...look no further than Mark DeRosa!
  9. For the most part that "competition" would be between a bunch of AAAA guys anyways (DeDuno- Who is prob hurt anyways, Diamond-AAAA, and the rest) I think Gibson starts in AAA regardless this year, once he is ready either he will have a spot due to an injury, or the Twins can trade or cut bait with Correia when the time is ready. You can never, ever, ever, have enough quality SP. If somehow DeDuno, Meyer and Gibson all prove to be effective in 2014, then you have a really nice problem on your hands.
  10. That one showed up on my work computer none the less...
  11. Per MLBTR: This would be utterly fantastic.
  12. Florimon is best served in a UTIL role due to his slick fielding nature. I don't think he will ever do enough with the bat to truly warrant a starting job on a legit competing ball club. The Twins really don't have much in the SS pipeline at this point, and counting on Florimon for anything more than 1 season is a mistake IMO. The Twins should strike now, sign Drew to a 2-3 year deal and instantly improve the SS position (which has been dreadful for about a decade now)
  13. Agreed. Johan, Garza, Tanaka, Bailey are the only ones I am truly interested in at this point. No thanks to the Arroyos of the world.
  14. I wouldn't be shocked if they don't have 8 on next year as well. Sano/Pinto are almost cinches to "graduate". I guess Buxton/Rosario and Meyer could as well though I think they are a bit of long shots too (esp Rosario and Meyer) Whoever the Twins pick in the first round this year will be on the list automatically, and I think someone from the Kepler, Jorge, Polanco, May,Gimartin? Group can make it on as well.
  15. Obviously I would love this move. It would be really nice to see him come back and put together 3-4 solid (but not great) seasons, that way he would bolster his chances on making the hall of fame.
  16. Rank of pitchers I would prefer the Twins get: 1. Homer Bailey (+ extension) 2. Tanaka (16-18 mil a year) 3. Garza 4. Jimenez 5. Johan 6. Nobody 10. Arroyo
  17. Teachers are like every other profession, some are excellent, some are terrible and the majority are somewhere in between. There are advantages (summers off, job security, flexibility) and there are disadvantages (Pay, dealing with crappy kids) etc just like any job. It's sorta like cops, all it takes is one bad experience to taint the view, when in reality the majority of cops are just regular people trying to earn a living and protecting the masses while doing so.
  18. It's not really mis-information. It's a pretty cool story regardless, it's pretty obvious he wasn't doing this for the money.
  19. I would argue that Duensing may not even be worth tendering a contract to at this point.
  20. Of that list the only one I want on the roster at this point is Pressly, who I think is perfectly fine as a 4th OF. Turner would be a nice get, I would also try to get DeRosa out of retirement to provide UTIL and a bench bat.
  21. 8 x 10 Nick Punto autograph. My brother appreciated it last year
  22. Anything of value? Steamer has Doumit as a 0.0 WAR player, last year he was a 0.1 WAR guy. He provides zero defensive value period, and though I like him as a player, he is a terrible fit for an NL club at this point.
  23. According to Mayo over at MLB.com he has the potential to be middle of the rotation guy. He is coming off an injury filled year and is still pretty young. FWIW he was listed as the #4 prospect by him heading into 2014, and BA #10 is nothing to sleep on as well. Is he an Alex Meyer type prospect? Of course not, but he is a legit one at this point, and for getting that for Doumit is a no brainer and a huge win.
  24. Blackburn was 0.2 in 2010, basically replacement level. Also, I think we can put this "well the Twins did this in the past, so they will do it in the future" meme that is so popular here. People said the Twins would never spend in free agency (which was incorrect), they would only go after non upside guys (which was incorrect) Just because the Twins gave Blackburn a foolish extension doesn't mean they will do it again if Gilmartin happens to have a solid year or two. They certainly didn't give Diamond an extension after his nice 2012, and they didn't have a long leash on him last year either.
