  1. They could always trade him in August.
  2. Yeah, if he takes a step back or so and Pinto steps up, they can always find a team to trade him to down the road anyways. I definitely want Suzuki back for a year or two. He holds his own IMO behind the dish, he hits pretty well for a catcher, is healthy/dependable and is seemed to be liked by the pitchers and calls a good game (pitch framing is probably another story) With young guys like May/Meyer on the way up I feel a lot better about them having a veteran call the game then a rookie like Pinto.
  3. How can you even say that this early at this point? If May/Meyer prove effective this Aug/Sept then I believe the Twins will absolutely give them a shot to win a spot out of spring training. However, is it prudent to "pencil" both of them in for 2015 at this time? Heck no!
  4. Yeah, I am thinking that is a possibility, and honestly I could see Pelfrey actually becoming a pretty good option in the pen.
  5. I think the Twins are just waiting to see what happens the rest of the day before they start sending more guys down to the minors etc. Milone will be with the big league club by Saturday.
  6. I mean, the A's rotation was already the best in baseball arguably and now it definitely is. He was sent down after they got Hammel (Who was having a career year) and Samardiza (Hammel is now the odd man out with Lester in Oakland)
  7. This guy seemed to think Milone was good enough for the Yankees to give up Sanchez and 3 other players for. Now, I disagree with him a bit, but it is interesting to note that there are others out there who think Milone can be a solid pitcher. http://yanksgoyard.com/2014/07/30/trade-rumors-yankees-need-tommy-milone/#!br9J1C
  8. If Fuld is traded, Vargas is coming up to take his place which is why Milone is in AAA for now. Guessing he can be brought up just as soon as a guy like Willingham or KC are traded.
  9. If anything I think the Twins have ruled out Pelfrey as he is a super question mark coming back. I think you might be reading too much into the Nolasco theory, The Twins traded a 4th OF, chances are Milone was by far the best they would get back in trade for him. Also, if Milone pitches solid the rest of the year for the Twins there is nothing that prevents them from potentially trading him during the off-season (likely getting something better than a 4th OF in return)
  10. You are forgetting about Nolasco, who while isn't an ace has a pretty long track record that indicates that he will ultimately be "fine" for this team. Pelfrey is another wild card who could come back and be decent, however I would put that at about 20% while I would put the odds of Nolasco coming back eventually (late this year or 2015) and being at least "average" at 80%
  11. Yeah, I mentioned the other day that they shouldn't really be targeting any back of the rotation types (i.e. Another Correia, Pelfrey etc) this just cinches it that they will likely stand pat in free agency this year and won't bring in a "crafty veteran" Heading into 2015 it appears the Twins could actually have some nice pitching depth. If they end up with too many quality guys for the 5 spots you can always turn around and trade one of those guys for help elsewhere. The best thing in the world for this team would be for Nolasco to come back strong and pitch like he has in the past.
  12. If Hughes/Meyer/Gibson/May/Milone all prove effective and healthy next year, then that is a very very very good problem to have!
  13. I haven't seen Milone pitch a bunch but if you havea 3.84 ERA in 78 starts in the majors you must be doing something right. Apparently he more or less forced the A's to trade him after he was sent to the minors (with a 3.55 ERA) hopefully he comes to the Twins hungry to prove that he deserves to be in a MLB rotation all year long. I wouldn't worry about May/Meyer in re: to this, the Twins could trade KC today and also Pino/Johnson/etc could always be sent down.
  14. Wow, that is a fantastic trade for the Twins. Fuld was nice and all, but we can grab him or someone like him on the FA market this off-season.
  15. He said he would be willing to resign in Boston, however he already turned down a few deals they offered him (which were reportedly only like 70 mil) The word is the Red Sox don't want to give a 5/6 year deal to a 30 year old pitcher...if the Red Sox change that stance I could see him coming back to Boston, but you just KNOW that a team like the Yankees, Dodgers etc will overpay for him this off-season.
  16. Cespedes isn't bad, but he is a bit more hype then his true talent.
  17. Lester to the A's...Holy Hell, the A's are beyond all in at this point.
  18. Worley is getting lucky. It happens to all pitchers, it just looks worse in this case because it happened to happen as soon as he joined the Pirates. I did a quick glance at one of Blackburns seasons real quickly, heck, he had a 12 game stretch where he had a 2.20 ERA.
  19. The league we play in typically has guys throwing in the mid 70's to low 80's. A couple years ago we went up agasint a guy who had just been cut by the Diamondbacks org (tested positive for roids and never posted below a 7.00 ERA in low A ball) dude came out and was throwing 90-92 MPH....we got no hit and absolutely destroyed, I think 3 people total even put the ball in play. I think the guy ended up having a .30 ERA or something insane that season. I can't even freaking imagine what 100 MPH would look like.
  20. 22% not to mention the fact that Meyer had thrown several poor starts pretty much in a row in the early and middle parts of June.
  21. This "The Twins never bring up prospects" meme in every single thread is getting a bit tiresome to be honest as it's not exactly true. May would have been up by this point if it wasn't for an injury, you don't just bring a guy back from the DL and immediately throw him in the majors for the first time. Meyer is going to be up very, very soon and will get a nice solid amount of innings at the major league level this year. If Buxton presses the issue at A+ and AA over the next couple of months, I absolutely could see the Twins bringing him up for a cup of coffee in the majors to at least give fans a reason to get excited about some likely meaningless Sept baseball games. On another note, I am very excited to see Mauer play again, I hope he can end the season on a positive note and ultimately the Twins can find a way to win at least 75-78 games. I think the goal is to play .500 ball from here on out which puts them right at 76/77 wins.
  22. Nothing to dislike about this move, you can't teach someone how to throw 100 MPH, worst case scenario he fizzes out Shooter Hunt style (without spending as much money and wasting a high draft pick) Best case scenario: ????? Mid case scenario: Dude makes it to the majors some day and becomes a RP.
  23. While I think Nolasco gets a rotation spot if he is on the club regardless, I don't think Pelfrey is as set in stone as you seem to infer. Yes, he is under contract with the club, but it's hardly some huge number, if Pelfrey comes back and struggles I could definitely see them having him in the pen to start the season. Of course that all assumes that May/Meyer both will be good enough/ready enough to start the season on the major leaguer roster. One thing is for sure, the Twins have plenty of options for mid to late rotation types in 2015 (Gibson, Nolasco, Meyer, May, Pino, Pelfrey) If they are going to add ANY pitchers now or in the off-season IMO it has to be a #2 or and Ace, a guy like Keuchel, while solid is honestly just more of the same IMHO
  24. It wouldn't make any sense to try to trade Pinto and Arcia right now as their values are at a rather low point. I don't know why the Astros would give up anything of value for Plouffe, and Sano is pretty much as close to as an untouchable as it gets.
  25. +1 to this. At the end of the day, while the Twins have plenty of holes moving forward, CF is likely not one of them. Additionally they have some nice OF depth as well moving forward: Buxton, Arcia, Sano (if he doesn't stick at 3rd), Rosario, Hicks etc Spending a ton of money on a CF wouldn't make much sense at this point...now if Rusney was a 98 MPH throwing starter....then I could see it.
