  1. I don't think he meant it like that, obviously concussions are serious and with span/Mauer/morneau/Koskie you hope we are due for a quick bounce back for once from one. I think he meant "only concussion" in the fact it wasn't a much more serious neck type injury, which not only could instantly end a career, it could effect a man for the rest of his life.
  2. Might be a good time to sell high on Escobar after this season?
  3. I dunno, rasmus has been a part time player this year, I could see him taking a one year deal to try to build up his value for the next contract, or maybe even a two year deal. Heck I wouldn't even mind if the twins gave him three years, he reminds me a lot of Phil Hughes, a guy with a lot of talent who has shown flashes, still young enough where maybe a change of scenery is all that is needed. Details I
  4. Hicks is just one player who wasn't ready offensively or defensively. Buxton is already ready defensively and doesn't have a big hole in his offensive like hicks did. Additionally the twins moved up Santana, Vargas etc pretty aggressively.
  5. earliest next September? No way. I think the latest, baring injury or major setback that buxton is up is next June.
  6. I disagree with plouffe being a bench plate on a good team. Plouffe is an above average third baseman both at the plate and in the field. His problem is he has Sano knocking on the door soon, I think he ultimately makes for good trade bait next trade deadline or before 2016 season. Or perhaps he can stick in the OF and spell Sano at 3b?
  7. Bringing up Buxton for a couple weeks isn't going to kill his service time, and as I have said before I would like the Twins to extend him (buy out his first couple FA years) ASAP.
  8. I was on the Hunter bandwagon recently, but he has struggled pretty significantly as of late. I'd look to bring in a guy like Colby Rasmus, who still has some upside, can handle CF until Buxton is ready, can play all three spots and likely could be had on a short term deal. Nick Markakis is another one I wouldn't mind taking a look at, basically would take over for Willinghams spot as a younger and much more healthy option. I would be 100% fine with Rasmus or Markakis on the Twins on a one or two year deal.
  9. I keep seeing you say this in other threads and it doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever. How has Parmelee been major league average this year at all? He currently sports a .695 OPS (94 OPS+), and a .306 OBP, he has a -0.1 fWAR this year and a -0.6 bWAR this year. Ranking 104 out of 125 OF with 200 PA this year (fWAR) He doesn't provide much value at all defensively and doesn't even come close to hitting enough to justify anything close to every day at bats, no real versatility.
  10. Rand is a clown, I'm not sure how you can fault Mauer for having a conclusion (a very very serious injury btw) and an oblique strain, which sidelines a lot of top pros. Unfortunately Mauer has had a couple unlucky years, reminds me of Griffey who couldn't catch a break for a few years while he was in Cinci. Mauer did look good prior to the DL and had two nice hits last night, hopefully he can post a .820-.850 ops the rest of the season for the twins.
  11. I don't see how there would even be a legit civil case, all signs point to Stewart trying to avoid him, they have his go pro camera and two other angles and yet they say there is zero criminality suspected. I hate to say it, but at 20 years old the guy was an adult, he made a very very bad/stupid/rash decision and paid the price for it in freak and brutal accident. Stewart shouldn't be punished at all, I imagine the fact he accidentally took another human life is more punishment then he would ever deserve.
  12. As someone who grew up going to the dirt track races every other week or so (I don't make it as often these days, maybe once or twice a year) I absolutely believe Tony Stewart did nothing wrong, the kid almost got hit by two other cars prior and right before he was hit he ran down even further into Tony's path, it even looks like he was trying to "slap" the car with his hand. Anyone who has watched sprints know that they don't exactly handle like a dream, I think Tony saw him at the last second, swerved to the left to avoid hitting him head on and then unfortunately clipped him with the back side tire. Also, the sequence of events were about 15- 20 seconds total, he likely had no idea the kid was on the track and likely had no idea the kid was mad at him (I dont even think they made contact prior as the kid ran out of room and hit the wall) The problem I have been seeing is a lot of people who A. Don't follow racing B. Don't follow dirt track racing trying to say Stewart was trying to scare him/do it on purpose. The whole thing is a tragedy, but the kid never should have been walking on a hot track like that, especially in the middle and in fact was putting the other drivers at risk. If the other driver wasn't named Tony Stewart does the kid even get out of his car to make a fuss? I doubt it, I think it was a 20 year old trying to make a name for him self and it unfortunately got him killed.
  13. I wonder if Mauer could play a few innings in RF? I think 1b should be his regular position, but it would allow Vargas to play 1b and Pinto to DH a few times later this year. I had forgotten that Arica is hurt. This of is now even more brutal.
  14. I think Ryan has done pretty damn well overall, I give him an A- for the trades he has been able to make this year, and a A- for the trades he has made in the past 2 years to help bolster this teams future (see: May/Meyer) and a B or B+ for the Free agents he was able to bring in this year. Hughes has been a great success and will be a key moving forward, the Suzuki signing was perfect this year (the extension is TBD but still a very low risk move IMO) Snagging Fuld and then flipping him was great. I am still a fan of the Nolasco signing, hopefully he can be healthy from here on out and earn his contract. The Pelfrey signing is a bust at this point, but I think he has a shot to be at least a bullpen arm for us (a high upside one potentially at that) and its not like he is breaking the bank. I am very excited to see what TR can do this off-season, he has a decent amount of cash and less theoretical holes to fill as the rotation has 7 or 8 guys ready for the start of 2015 (Hughes, Gibson, Milone, Nolasco, Meyer, May, Pino etc) and SS, catcher, 3B and CF all are have or have someone on the way very quickly. Just need to figure out how to get a nice corner OF in the mix.
  15. I like it, its harmless and is a fun way to mess with your big rival. I'd take 20 Bryce Harper types on my team any day, can he act a bit like a punk at times? I guess he can come off like that, but the guy plays 110% all the time (just see the videos of him taking extra bases due to hustle that no other player would even attempt) if the byproduct is that once in a while he does a "clown" move, give me that trade off any day. Regardless I think people are making way to big a deal over what he did, it's not like he stopped at the A, spit on it etc, it was subtle trolling. Good job on him.
  16. I think they should have a spot open, if not they could easily enough make a space avail. Once Sept happens you don't have to worry about losing a guy from the major league roster through waivers (though I think guys like Parmelee and even DeDuno don't have any business being on this teams 40 man roster for 2015 anyways)
  17. With the recent trades of Fuld and Willingham the Twins outfield is...well...pretty brutal. The only two on the roster who deserve close to every day at bats are: Santana and Arcia. In a perfect world we would have Santana getting some reps at SS in order to prepare him for a potential move there in 2015. If I was running the team I would do the following: -Bring Hicks up in the next couple of weeks. -The Parmelee era me thinks is coming to a quick end, try to send him back to AAA, if you lose him you lose him. I don't think he has a real place on this team moving forward anyways. -Start giving Plouffe a few starts in the corner OF, it would be good to give him a few reps for when and if Sano comes up and plays 3B. -If Buxton performs in AA over the next couple weeks, I think you bring him up to the majors in Sept for a few reasons: You get the fans excited for 2015, you give him some reps against major league pitchers, you put a better team on the field for Sept overall etc -Escobar prob loses some at bats with Santana taking over at SS, however give him some starts as a super utility guy at 3rd base and maybe the occasional start in the corner OF as well. However I have been impressed on what he has done at SS overall this year. I know its probably unlikely the Twins bring up Buxton, but it would be a nice sneak preview if he is able to hack it in AA and lord knows the Twins don't exactly have an embarrassment of riches in the OF at this point.
  18. If he tears it up these first couple of weeks I really think the Twins need to bring him up for a Sept call up to get him a few at bats, get the fans pumped and actually put a better team on the field. The OF is going to be pretty brutal in the mean time.
  19. The Twins have a decent shot to win 8-10 more games then they did last year. Get to 74-76 wins this year and try to improve the same amount in 2015, then we are in business
  20. Willingham deserves a shot at the playoffs, hope he and the royals can make it. Nice get in return, maybe he becomes the next Pino/Swarzak type for this team which does have some nice value at a minimum contract.
  21. Why does a team need two long guys? I like DeDuno and all, but it's time for the Twins to move on. He doesn't profile as a starter for this team, and doesn't look like a real great BP option. Time to let him find an NL team and wish him luck.
  22. Honest question: if I make a super awesome Mauer blog post can I donate my free pizza to a homeless shelter in Minnie of some sort? If not, perhaps itstimetotakeits child(ren)?
  23. I think Mauer should be getting the reps at first personally.
