  1. Yes, when the Twins win the world series this year Hunter will then retire and go out on top.
  2. If Hamels and/or Tulo are actually available there will be a significant bidding war, one that would cost Sano, or other top prospects to win. Pass. It's not that time for the Twins IMO to do something silly that they will regret.
  3. I hope Pelf obviously keeps pitching great as a starter, but I hope if he struggles a bit later they don't hesitate to toss him in the pen especially if Berrios is knocking on the door, I think Pelf could be a wade Davis lite type bullpen guy for this club. With all of the said, everyone in the rotation has mostly earned a rather long leash, whether for career track record (Hughes, Nolasco-ugh) young arms looking good (Gibson, May) and current 2015 production (Pelf) to this point IMHO. I don't mind Milone, but he shouldn't be pushing out any productive member of the rotation. Maybe this allows the twins to more aggressively shop Nolasco? Even picking up a chunk of his salary?
  4. Obviously I would love Davis or Morneau but they won't come nearly as cheap, also brock, Phils are 110% rebuild mode, they would likely pick up as much as needed for a C+ prospect in return, and to open up 1B. Get him for 6 mil, give up a Solid but not top 15 prospect in return and roll the dice, if he really sucks that much where he isn't even an asset on the bench or part time DH then just cut him. I mean this is a team trotting out Escobar and Nunez as DHs at this point....
  5. You could probably get a Sam Fuld type.
  6. In the playoffs it's hard to win, you need to whole team clicking well and a little bit of luck as well. The key IMO to the pitching is they keep you in games, then it's up to your hitters to put across 4-5 runs a game. The Twins had arguably the top pitcher in the game with Santana and they still managed to never win a series it seems like. Ace or not, Gibson is pitching at an all star level, THAT is good enough for me.
  7. I really really really hope Herrman isn't the reason for Gibsons good game. He is basically Butera 2.0 at the plate and that will eventually bite this team in the ass.
  8. Gibson will never be an "ace" because he will never dominate a game like Harvey, King Felix rtc. However he has the makeup to be a solid #2, add that to Hughes who looks like a #2 and May who more and more looks like a regular contributer and you have a real nice rotation moving forward. Hopefully Berrios can make that step up as well, and you have Santana who is a solid middle of rotation guy as well. I don't know if you need a true "ace" to win a title anymore. You just need enough guys who can pitch like #2's IMHO to keep you in games.
  9. He's not expensive if you offer to pick up only 6 mil of his remaining contract, the Phillies will dump him for next to nothing. 6 mil is a risk you can take, if he fails he fails and you move on. If he is finally healthy and effective again you roll with it. Last time I checked this was a team that had used Escobar in the DH spot. So they could use an upgrade. Defense is irrelevant since he would be a DH. Not concerned about strike outs if the guy can put up 30 HR and an OPS+ of 120 or higher. Again it's low risk, high reward, the twins have plenty of dollars, if he can hit like he capable of he is a steal, if not they can cut him. Much rather spend 6 million on a once was (Howard) then 3-5 million on a never was ((marquis, stauffer, etc)
  10. Howard isn't as bad as some of you are making him out to be, and no: Vargas, Arcia and Pinto do not give you similar numbers. If Howard can stay healthy he is a very good DH option for you with 30 + HR power, none of Vargas pinto etc give you that IMHO. I want nothing to do with revere bc of buxton on the way, but if we can get Howard for 6 mil or so and a non top 15 prospect, I think you gotta roll the dice, if he can stay healthy and effective he could be a steal. He wouldn't be blocking sano, so that's fine, him blocking Vargas or Pinto isn't a big deal anyways. I would trade one of those two for catching help or relief help later on anyways. Lastly; Bautista would be great, but he isn't going to come cheap at all, you are looking at Berrios as a starting point most likely.
  11. Saw a couple notes on MLbTR about Howard being a possible fit for the twins. Obviously Phil would pick up 75% of the bill most likely, but would you want him on the twins? Maybe traded for Vargas and a low level prospect in return?
  12. At worst Boyer is a tradeable asset? Gotta disagree with you on that, all of the signs are pointing to Boyer pitching himself off a cliff very soon, the guy just doesn't do anything well, why the Twins continue to fill the bullpen with 30+ year old guys who A. Can't strike anyone out. B.) Have little to no success in the majors prior to joining the Twins, is truely baffling. The comparison to Pelfrey doesn't make sense either, Pelfrey had several years as a starter for the Mets where he rated as either a #4 or #5, much more potential when signed then Boyer, apples/oranges etc. I wish the Twins would give Tonkin more of those high leverage innings, guy looks solid on the mound in the minors etc and can at least strike some guys out. The funny thing is, if Santana doesn't get suspended, the pen might look even better, I for one thought that Pelfrey would thrive in the pen and possibly become a shut down 8th inning type, clearly he has earned his spot in the rotation in the meantime though, so maybe that will happen if he struggles somewhat.
  13. His present so far as a twins has been terrible as well, whether in the majors, AAA rehab or spring training, additionally he pitched in the NL, in the most pitcher friendly park in baseball and put up mediocre/replacement level numbers.
  14. People are questioning it because the exact same "strategic" move led to a loss a week ago (extra inning game where Perkins threw 0 pitches)
  15. That's why you bring in the guy named Glen Perkins there!
  16. ding ding ding!
  17. Graham looked great no doubt, but bringing in Duensing prior to Perkins had disaster written all over it IMHO.
  18. SSS Hunter has been solid with the bat no doubt, but the reality is he isn't an asset in the field any more. Getting old sucks.
  19. No
  20. Duensing would have given up a run long before he managed to throw 3 straight scoreless innings.
  21. They have plenty of better options at AAA they could bring up, plus the Twins have an off day today anyways. Graham is likely the only one who can't "go" on Friday.
  22. This bullpen is a ticking time bomb.
  23. That "saving your closer" bit is the exact wrong way of doing things, 50%+ of the time the closer(the teams best RP) won't see the field in a close game. Molly got lucky last night, but it already bit him in the ass a week ago.
  24. In all seriousness I would gladly get rid of nolasco at this point, if a team offered to pay half of his remaining salary I would send him on his way. Also if the twins are going to contend they need to figure out/find a legit set up man or two. Maybe Meyer ultimately can fill that role later this season?
