  1. Yeah I would sit Rosario against tough lefties this year. Next year I like the idea of a arcia/hicks platoon in right.
  2. Home run ball is what is killing him this year, I think Hughes is a pretty smart pitcher and he even acknowledged his struggles recently, I have confidence that he will be able to limit the mistakes in the near future and get back to being a solid pitcher.
  3. Actually he may go #2 if they reheld that draft today. Gray and Appel (both 3 years older then Stewart) are both putting up worse numbers then Stewart anyways.
  4. I personally think the leadership is overblown, and I'm not sure he would make the greatest coach regardless.
  5. Hunter (like most of the Twins) is struggling as of late (.567 OPS in June), lets see how he bounces back before we even consider bringing him back, I wouldn't extend him prior to the end of the season regardless however. The reality is he will still be a 40 year old RF heading into 2016, if he ends up pricing himself out of the equation for the Twins in 2016 it's not a huge deal since they have an abundance of potential in house candidates and if those don't pan out finding a veteran corner OF to come on for a 1 year deal is the easiest thing to find on the free agent market. Well, besides AAAA type SP
  6. Name one player who never played a single inning of OF in the minors who immediately made a jump and became an OF in the majors.
  7. Miguel Sano has played exactly 0 innings of OF in his minor league career, and I am guessing he didn't play a whole lot in the years leading up to the Twins signing him as well. Yes, RF is an "easier" position then 3B, but playing RF in the majors (as well as any advanced stage of baseball) does in fact take some skill, learning how to track fly balls, hit the cut off man, shifts, jump on the ball etc isn't just going to come over night to someone. Trying to toss Sano in RF on the fly would possibly be the worst thing the Twins could do and could lead to a disaster (i.e. running into the wall, into the stands, another OF, or completely destroying his confidence in the field when he would inevitably misplay a few balls. And yes, while I don't think Hunter is great in RF, I am very confident he is much much better than Sano in RF currently and for the rest of 2015.
  8. Also every third year or so they should do a team USA vs the World roster.
  9. Most starters get at least 2 at bats. Having a guy like Omar Infante getting two at bats instead of a guy like Dozier or Kipinis etc can have a pretty really effect on a single ball game.
  10. It wouldn't be a big deal if the game didn't determine home field advantage.
  11. I think you could fix the problem fairly easily and still allow the fans a chance to vote. Simply stop opening up all star voting like 20-30 games into a season, yes Cano is having a down year but he is coming off a really nice year and several more prior to that, I don't fault folks early in the season for voting in a guy like Cano because its either you go off a 162+ game sample size the year prior or a 20-30 game sample size in the current year. Instead I would like to see MLB open up the voting 3 weeks prior to the all star game and only having the "window" open for a total of 10-14 days, this way you stop people from making regrettable early season/early impression votes, stop people from stuffing the ballot as much and sort of "drive" everyone to vote at once. Of course because the all star game has sponsors for the ballot itself, ad dollars on the sites etc this likely will never happen. So of course the easier solution is to just stop with this "this time it counts!" garbage and go back to a fun exhibition style game. I would even be up for instead of having one 9 inning game, have a double header featuring two 7 inning games, that way every player gets more playing time and two to three at bats. If it is tied after 7 innings, go into a sudden death home run derby. (Each side gets 3 players and 5 pitches per player)
  12. The Twins are over due for a big offensive game, I think Buxton shines tonight and the Twins follow suit.
  13. I know errors are hardly a perfect stat, but the fact that he has 39 errors in his 175 games at 3B is...quite alarming. In 2015 his fielding percentage is .908% (Plouffes is .977%), I actually wouldn't be shocked if they brought him up and didn't play him at 3rd at all as it could be a disaster this year.
  14. It only makes sense if you actually have a serviceable bench IMO, which the Twins currently do not have.
  15. If you want to run Sano out at 3rd more than once a week you might as well go ahead and trade Hunter for anything you can get as well. Let Hicks/Arcia take his at bats in RF.
  16. Only because he is a better option in LF then David Ortiz.
  17. Plouffe is actually pretty damn good at 3B. According to fangraphs he is the "7th" best defensive 3B since the start of 2014.
  18. I don't understand why people are so worried about finding Sano a spot to play defensively, the guy has the potential to hit 35+ HR a year witha .530+ Slugging and a .900+ OPS. That is more then good enough to play DH "full time"
  19. You are being extremely dissmissive and ignoring people's posts that specifically point out statistics (which aren't hyperbolic at all btw) You are certainly entitled to your opinion of top 2B, but you shouldn't dismiss everyone else's well thought out posts as "people who only watch the twins and are homers"
  20. Also one other note when using WAR in a small sample size is that often defensive metrics (which make up a good chunk of the WAR equation) often can't be trusted in small sample sized measures. For instance, Kipinis had a combined negative 10.8 defensive value in 2013/2014, in 2015 he is at 4.4 already (on pace for 10+ overall), now it's very possible he could have improved, but to go from a below average defender to an elite in the span of 60 games? Not very likely.
  21. If you read what I have been saying this whole time you would see that I said he has been first in WAR since the start of 2014, instead of using a smaller 64 game sample size I am going off what he has done in the last year and half, since then he is #1 in WAR, #1 in OPS, #1 in HR, #1 in wRC+ in the 200+ games. (much more accurate sample size IMO to gather somones value)
  22. You are only using one stat "WAR" in a 64 game sample size. How many of those guys also lead in OPS, HR, Runs, Slugging, etc etc etc
  23. He is 1st in baseball since the start of 2014.
