  1. Dozier is 1st in WAR, 1st in OPS, 1st in HR, 1st in WRC+, 1st in Runs, 1st in doubles. That is a large difference IMO from 4th, 6th, 6th, 8th, 8th, 3rd. A valid comparsion for Norris to a 2nd baseman would be someone like Kendrick or Zobrist, both good players no doubt, but not elite. A valid comparison to Dozier in re: to a catcher with similar "standings" in those categories would be Buster Posey (1st in WAR, 3rd in HR, 1st in RBI, 1st in WRC, 1st in Slugging etc) who is elite IMO.
  2. Comparing Derek Norris to Dozier is pretty silly. Dozier is the leader amongst all 2b in several categories over the last season and a half. Norris though a solid player no doubt is 6th in WAR and much lower in every other none defensive category.
  3. Few things: 1. You can still have Sano take INF before every single game to keep him fresh. 2. It's highly unlikely Sano ever becomes an above average defender at 3rd base, at this point all scouting reports tend to think his 3rd base defense's ceiling is somewhere between below average and slightly below average. 3. Plouffe has had 179 defensive chances in 2015, that works out to just about 3 "chances" per game at 3rd base. Having Sano DH for a few months isn't going to set him back. 4. You can also have him play winter ball to "catch up" on the fielding, ditto with spring training etc as well. A hard hit ground ball to third is the same as it is in the minors as it is in the majors, the adjustment isn't as large as some folks like to make it out to be. The big difference obviously is the pitching in the minors vs the pitching in the majors.
  4. Ryan and Molitor aren't doing it for the temporary ticket sales bump, I am near positive on that. You know what bumps ticket sales? Winning baseball games and being in the playoff hunt until late Sept.
  5. 2B ranks since the start of 2014: fWAR: 1. Dozier 7.4 2. Kinsler 6.6 Slugging 1. Dozier .451 2. Walker .431 6th in OBP HR 1. Dozier 36 2. Walker 27 wRC+ 1. Dozier 125 (tied). Altuive 125 R: 1. Dozier 164 2. Kinsler 138 BSR 1. Dee Gordon 12.9 2. Brian Dozier 11.0 (The gap between Gordon and Dozier in this area is HUGGGGGE though) Is Dozier elite? Absolutely. Is Dozier the most underrated player in the league? Probably. Is Dozier the best hitting 2B in the league? Most likely. Is Dozier the best all around 2B in the league? Most likely.
  6. None of those guys listed are middle INF. If you compare him to other "elite" 2nd baseman I think you will find the average isn't a huge concern. Examples: Ernie Banks was a career .274 hitter Joe Morgan was a career .271 hitter Ryan Sandberg was a career .285 hitter And these are all "best of the best" hall of fame top 10 all time type guys. Over the past 365 days Dozier is in the top 2 or 3 for OPS, HR, R and several other categories for 2B, when you are in the top 2 or 3 in the whole league that makes you elite IMO.
  7. Sano should not platoon with anyone, he is also a righty which would mean you would be taking him out of the lineup 70% of the time in a traditional platoon. The reality is if Sano is up there is no room for Vargas on the current roster, so you would be best served sending him back down to AAA (Vargas) and bringing him back up should an injury or trade occur to someone like Plouffe or Hunter
  8. Nobody is saying he was "good" last year, however people claiming he is "done" and should consider retiring is just so unbelievably off base its ridiculous. Did he struggle compared to other 1st baseman last year? Absolutely. Did the Twins have better in house options at first base? No.
  9. I'm sorry, I don't see how him batting lead-off suddenly puts so much more pressure on him. The pressure is already on him big time to be the Twins next big thing.
  10. Dude is clearly tearing it up with the bat, my understanding is he isn't a real asset in the field, but if you are hitting .900+ OPS that isn't a concern. My question to you guys who follow the minors is just how good of a prospect is vavra at this point? Top 15? 20? Top ten in any org that isn't the twins?
  11. Not worried, he was super super raw when they drafted him. Come 2017 and he hasn't shown improvement then I will be concerned.
  12. Actually an Arcia/Hicks platoon could be pretty interesting...
  13. Moving forward (2016) I think Rosario and Buxton more or less have two of the starting 3 OF spots locked up. At that point I think it comes down to arcia vs Hicks for the third. May the best man win.
  14. When you say "not play" I assume you mean the field? Call me crazy but I don't see it as huge of an issue as some other folks, you just give him extra INF before games and give him a start a game and I think he will be fine. Hell, there are some games where a third baseman only gets 2 or 3 balls hit his way anyways.
  15. As could I I think in that scenario you send Vargas back down as well. Hicks can still get a start or two a week as well for either Rosario (against tough LHP) and to spell Hunter (who I think is starting to show signs of his age a bit) Starting Sano as the every day DH allows him to focus 100% on his hit tool, toss him in 3B and 1B once a week to keep him "fresh" as well, plus infield etc before games as well.
  16. The way he is hitting this year he looks a lot like Robinson Cano (sans this year). I too would drop him to 3rd in the order in the near future. Put Buxton and Mauer batting 1-2 in front of him and let him knock those guys in.
  17. Buxton, Sano, Bryant, Russell, Rizzo would make for some fantastic baseball to watch.
  18. It's way too early to write Mauer's obituary and talk about buy outs etc, I think its a lingering concussion issue or something, hopefully he can eventually come back somewhat strong, but to say he should walk away? Just stop, he had a 107 OPS+ last year, and while that isn't anything amazing, it's not exactly like he was embarrassing himself out there. (Plouffe has a 107 OPS+ this year and I don't think anyone is writing him off) This recent slump is frustrating no doubt, but he isn't the only one having one in June....it seems to be a team wide thing: June OPS: Mauer: .582 Plouffe: .441 Hunter: .573 Suzuki: .408 I know its easy to scapegoat Mauer because of the contract etc etc, but the whole team is in a rut right now. I guess the good news is they are losing some very close games at this point, hopefully these guys all stop slumping at the right time and Buxton and/or Sano can provide a spark.
  19. Buxton CF Mauer 1B Dozier 2B Sano DH (3B one time a week) Plouffe 3B Hunter RF Rosario LF Suzuki C Polanco/Santana/Escobar SS Hicks: 4th OF, PR, defensive replacement.
  20. Call up Polanco. Send Vargas back down to AAA Call up Sano to DH.
  21. Stupid, just stupid managerial decision. Instead of Buxton in the 9th with the tying run on 2nd, we end up with Escobar.
  22. I would give up watching the NFL ever again if the Vikings won a super bowl.
  23. Is this game even gonna happen?
  24. I think Hicks is just one of "many" who they won't try to sit for a couple days or play at less than 100%, the only guys I feel they would "sit and wait" fora DL stint would be the top players of this team like Dozier, Plouffe, Mauer, Hunter, Gibson, Hughes, May, Pelfrey, Perkins. Everyone else is more of a role player and thus are DLed quicker.
